A new thread in which to discuss what happens next in this saga.

And best wishes to mustress and thanks for her excellent thread titles.

I think that an inflammatory thread title would (rightly) be contrary to the Talk Guidelines.

Encyclo · 25/01/2020 16:09

Encyclo If you can't find it, drop me a PM and I'll send it to you via email. It's very interesting reading actually.

👍👍

Roussette · 25/01/2020 16:10

'Us' is those that contribute to the Trump thread, the stalwarts! How we collect information, where we collect it from, how we back up the information we collect, how we discuss the information we link to, etc
So different examples of posts were published, then how we reacted if someone disputed it.... how we follow up with evidence from another source
That sort of thing

peridito · 25/01/2020 16:13

Rousette may I PM you my email so that you could sens me a copy of the report as well ?

OVienna · 25/01/2020 16:14

Mhor start it. Maybe instead of Cousin Matthew's return a "Violets and Isabelles" is the right tone? Lots of sparring but the occasional slap on the back.

Roussette · 25/01/2020 16:14

Of course! perdito

No problem at all.

TheMustressMhor · 25/01/2020 16:22

OVienna

Myimaginarycat had a good title:

Markle's and Spencer's - Cousin Matthew's Return and the Robbing Butcher

rockingchaircandle · 25/01/2020 16:27

Wow, @Roussette that's fascinating!

I did a module for my master's last year where we looked at digital ethnography and online communities, more from a digital cultures perspective than a political one though. I think this 'distraction' would legitimately be useful for my studies! Please can I email you as well, although I have my uni's online library open now, not sure if I'll resist long enough to finish this week's assignment... Glad he loved your methodology as well, and that you get quoted! The Trump thread is sounding even more enticing now Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/01/2020 16:32

@WendyMoiraAngelaDarling

A local farmers market to me cooks and sells what they call "raclette" cooked in a huge pan like a paella pan. But it's actually sliced up potato's, ham, onion and cheese all fried together. It's delicious but looks nothing like that photo you posted

That sounds like Tartiflette.here

We call it “Mountain food”!

Roussette · 25/01/2020 16:33

@rockingchaircandle
Feel free! No problem at all. Given your studies I think you'll find the paper fascinating!

The Trump threads aren't moving as fast as they were, say, 3 years ago but anyone would have mild burn out given his shenanagins! But they don't die out, they just move a bit slower - I suppose the shock and horror at his behaviour has subsided a bit, we expect the worse and there's still posts every day.

(sorry everyone, don't mean to derail the thread)

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 16:34

We have a haggis for this evening.

Encyclo · 25/01/2020 16:35

Found it Rousette. Reading now, thanks for the steer.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/01/2020 16:37

Blimey. The conversation is getting too academic for me.
Can’t @rockingchaircandle and @Roussette just pm each other.

I’m just happy with the menu ideas and cat pictures whilst we wait for something to happen.

Roussette · 25/01/2020 16:43

Flippin' heck! It was a conversation about MN and not cats or haggis!

What are you hoping is going to happen?

spinyffud · 25/01/2020 16:47

They’ve made the local Belfast news

For those interested in the story.

OVienna · 25/01/2020 16:52

mhor like it

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 16:53

Protecting their image rights.

TheMustressMhor · 25/01/2020 17:02

Various people have suggested that we start a new thread for people who want to have some chit-chat and post pictures of their cats, dogs and meals.

When Harry and Meghan do something newsworthy that is worthy of discussion, we can start a fourteenth thread about that.

thread [[https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3805141-Cousin-Matthew-Returns-with-the-Robbing-Butcher HERE]]

TheMustressMhor · 25/01/2020 17:04

Blimey. I effed up that link, didn't I?

Second attempt

HERE

rockingchaircandle · 25/01/2020 17:05

@Roussette Thinking back to that module, we had to do our own digital ethnographies and, in previous examples they showed us, students had used Mumsnet threads. It's reminded me now of the dynamics they identified, different roles of posters within groups and how important conforming to group identity. Makes me look at this thread in a different light.

For the sake of balance, someone had eaten the falafels I'd hoped to have earlier so I had hummus and toast instead. (It could well have been me yesterday, and I've forgotten!)

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 25/01/2020 17:11

I have a question arising from the BBC article - anyone good on Royal admin issues able to elucidate?

"A spokeswoman for Hagan Homes confirmed to BBC News NI that the firm received an email from the couple's representatives, requesting the adverts be taken down.
"She said the email referred to rules from the Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP).
"The rules makes specific mention of the Royal Family, saying its members "should not normally be shown or mentioned in a marketing communication without their prior permission"." {My bold}

Who is 'they'? The individuals, or an office acting for the Royal Family in general?

peridito · 25/01/2020 17:14

curly if they'd PM'd eachother I'd not have picked up on the Trump thread nor heard about the research ,so I'm glad they didn't .

TBH I thought we were all just filling up this thread to get to nos 14 .

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 17:14

They must employ a lot of lawyers.

Roussette · 25/01/2020 17:15

@rockingchaircandle. Yes, and this is an interesting sentence from the Paper.
(sorry Curly, you'll have to put up with it, because it is relevant. Even if it isn't cat or meal related...)

"There is a growing concern in both academia and the media about so-called “echo chambers” or “bubbles” within which individuals expose themselves only to information that reinforces their existing views, and the extent to which the advent of social media has exacerbated this problem."

Of course we're all guilty of this to some extent. For instance, we are not exactly lovers of Trump on the Trump threads. But our sources are well documented.
