I hope Charles pays them a pittence in comparison to what they were used to. As if to say I won't let you starve or go homeless but no more thousands of pounds for clothes and a a list lifestyle.

sussexroyal.com/about/
Has already updated and mentions the statement. Wish Id screengrabbbed their previous site to see how it has changed. It now just says the Duke and Duchess, did it says HRH before?

  • Update: 18th of January 2020 In line with the statement by Her Majesty The Queen, information on the roles and work of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be updated on this website in due course. We appreciate your patience and invite you to explore the site to see the current works of Their Royal Highnesses.* Still their royal highnesses here though.

Tbh, I don’t think there can be a choice on removing their security.

I know that’s controversial but truth is that Harry (and consequently Archie) was born into this family and as such they will remain targets whether they’ve stepped back or not.

For the queen to say “nope, sorry we’re not prepared to provide your security” essentially could be seen as a threat that if they dare to leave the family then they have only themselves to blame if something happens to them. And whatever people think of them I don’t think that’s a model we want to uphold.

@CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook

You are right.

Yesterday in the Mhor household, home-made fish pie was on the menu.

This evening, after pork chops with home-made apple sauce and home-made chips, we stuffed ourselves with home-made peach crumble.

The cream was, admittedly,, bought at the Co-Op.

Delicious. There is none left for me to share, sadly.

I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family

This has echos of when the Queen was more or less forced to make a public statement saying she respected Diana as a Mother.

It's an attempt to extend grace. Nothing more. I suspect the RF seeming non support (no one has asked if I'm ok) has been a particular bone of contention, and this is a way of cooling tensions.

JulietJanuary · 18/01/2020 19:11

Their website showed them " collaborating " with the Queen.

This says they are not.

I hope they take her photos and quote down.

DuchessofWoke · 18/01/2020 19:11

Well, they sit in their order of succession. I don’t think this news changes that. Harry is still in between Louis and Archie. Or Kate and Andrew in terms of seating plans.

The80sweregreat · 18/01/2020 19:11

Harry ( formally known as HRH) now 'Mr Markle 'will come back for events / funerals etc. Meghan will never come back.

Nanna50 · 18/01/2020 19:11

Respect to HMQ at 93 she’s shown them who is boss and will not be held to ransom. This half in half out was too much like having your cake and eating it.

I don’t think she would actually remove the HRH, as with Diana, Harry was born HRH and MM is still married to him.

The statement said after months of talks, which suggests this was raised before the Christmas break. I think MM & PH have forced the queens hand ambushing her in public.

I think it is the right decision no public funds, no HRH and repay the money for Frogmore.

Incidentally the news states that Frogmore is being shuttered so it looks as though MM will not return any time soon.

I do ask myself why she is not here supporting Harry right now, there is no way I would leave my DH to face anything difficult on his own if I could be there.

I think she knew she was leaving the UK and basically Harry can go with her, or not. But MM wants out at any cost.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 18/01/2020 19:11

If I was cynical I'd say it was to make it all nice and clean once they divorce - he'll be welcomed back and given back the HRH and she'll be cut off without it. Quite brilliant in a way.

phpolly · 18/01/2020 19:12

Does no more HRH mean no more Duke and Duchess of Sussex? That would keep them from commodifying SussexRoyal.
At least there won't be any more talk of "collaborating with the Queen" by the sound of it.
But the issue of who will pay for their security has not yet been resolved?

Butterymuffin · 18/01/2020 19:12

He's still Prince Harry. Diana was Diana,
Princess of Wales after losing her HRH

ElloBrian · 18/01/2020 19:13

“ am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family”

A line worthy of ‘Yes, Minister’ ... if anyone can’t see the sarcasm here, you’re blind.

Muwanian · 18/01/2020 19:13

You wanted her to return the £2.5m, they will.
You wanted her to step off royal duties completely, she has.
You accuse her of using the "racist card" , but her race is at the heart of it all.

You should all be happy then.

BackyardChickens · 18/01/2020 19:14

Well fuck me. Surprised that the titles have gone, wasn’t expecting that.

Very carefully worded statement.

The80sweregreat · 18/01/2020 19:14

Will Meghan now be allowed to do interviews and 'tell all ' to the press? She might need the money after all.
They may still be wary of what she might know.

diddl · 18/01/2020 19:14

I think it sends the message that nothing that they do is on behalf of HM or the RF which is surely a good thing?

"Boom! No HRh or royal titles"

This reminded be of that clip with Harry & HM & they seemed to get on so well together-sad how things have turned out.

I also agree about Bea & Eug-been villified for ages for what-not doing much & having holidays?

That applies to a lot of them!

itswinetime · 18/01/2020 19:15

Trooping of the colour the whole family are there the Anne's children are there most years along with random Kent's and Gloucester. So Harry and Meghan are likely to be on the balcony to. I think what was meant by the military comment was more about Harry's role at things like the Cenotaph

SingingLily · 18/01/2020 19:15

You wanted her to step off royal duties completely, she has.

We didn't.

She did.

Her choice.

yolofish · 18/01/2020 19:15

Fuck me, I go off to think about supper and HMQ goes thermonuclear! I really need to catch up. Hope everyone is OK?

Nanna50 · 18/01/2020 19:15

I wonder what HMQ would reply if anyone asked her if she was OK right now Crown Hmm

FiveTwoFaster · 18/01/2020 19:15

I think this deal is fair! They pay back millions of public money (bet Harry wished he hadn’t been so “pick whatever you like Darling” now...), they don’t get “your royal highnesses” (don’t think that bothers them, their own statements on Insta were saying mere Duke of Sussex, not HRH The Duke of Sussex - he is still Prince Henry of Wales) and they don’t do royal duties and thus no public funds. Sounds fine to me. If I don’t pay for it, I don’t mind if they wear “Team Meghan” t-shirts and little crowns to the shops. If MM wants to monetise her family, more fool those people who are wowed by her connections. It’s like Russian tycoons who make six figure donations to the Prince’s Trust because Prince Charles hosts a dinner at Highgrove. Only Meghan is not Prince Charles and Prince Harry doesn’t have the same cache either.

I think this is a good result for the taxpayer - the Queen’s statement is supportive. “Months” of conversation shows that she wasn’t blindsided and she refers to them as her family and has a line specifically about Meghan. So she is trying Very Hard. Harry can’t say she isn’t!

DuchessofWoke · 18/01/2020 19:16

That means no more curtsying, no more bowing. Harry loses precedence over those who are still HRH such as Beatrice and Eugenie

He’s essentially the same as Peter and Zara now. They don’t have HRH but haven’t lost their places in the line of succession. The two aren’t connected. He was born a prince and that cannot be removed. The dukedom was a gift so that remains.

Even Fergie still goes by Duchess!

CornforthWhite · 18/01/2020 19:16

Sussex Royal will stand as people keep saying they will still be called Prince Harry etc etc

peaceanddove · 18/01/2020 19:16

I sincerely hope PC provides them with just a modest stipend from the Duchy of Cornwall, just a couple of hundred grand a year maybe? If they need more then Harry can dip into his personal fortune of £35 million. Bet Meghan is regretting flogging all her couture clobber now, because no way is Harry going to buy her £35K frocks to swan around in (read an old interview with one of Harry's ex's who knows he was notoriously tight with money).
