Kind of sticks to fingers up to the rumours being spread (by Meghan’s friends) that she wasn’t welcomed into the family.

Or dailymail rumours

picklemepopcorn · 18/01/2020 19:02

@Grasspigeons what did you mean, William got the raw deal?

lilmishap · 18/01/2020 19:02

Surely not using HRH extends to RoyalSussex? I know PC has been reportedly worried after the tat that was sold after Diana died.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/01/2020 19:03

Be interesting to see if they’re in the balcony for stuff like Trooping the Colour, etc in the future.

Weedsnseeds1 · 18/01/2020 19:03

The security question has been a bit fudged, are we still paying.
Also public funding dropped in spring, but will they still get money from Charles?
If it is all funding, they'd better get cracking with the financial independence

peaceanddove · 18/01/2020 19:03

I assume that once they're divorced Harry will be welcomed back with open arms by the RF and he will be honoured with a new royal dukedom instead?

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 18/01/2020 19:03

Do we still call him Prince Harry?
I am so confused 🤷‍♀️

AgeLikeWine · 18/01/2020 19:04

After quitting the royal family, H&M should be allowed to live wherever they like and do whatever they want, as long as the taxpayer isn’t picking up the tab.

If they are seen as turning their backs on Britain, but still expecting us to finance any aspect of their lives, there will be a huge backlash.

lilmishap · 18/01/2020 19:04

Have they decided or been told not to, is what I'd like to know!

Rinoachicken · 18/01/2020 19:04

@VivaLeBeaver They won’t be - working royals only. You don’t see Zara etc up there.

ChicCroissant · 18/01/2020 19:04

I think they will still be Duke/Duchess/Prince. The HRH is something different - the protocol fascinates me but I am so glad I don't have to know or deal with it on a day to day basis! Probably means that you don't have to curtsey to them.

strictlymomdancing · 18/01/2020 19:05

I think Harry didn't like the military duties, I think that refers to the Trooping of the Colour etc which Harry visibly found boring. Its not the same as active military duties which he was never going to go back to anyway.

Interesting observation about his place in the succession too.

The vast majority of the British public will think he's lost his title. He hasn't. He still has it. He's just not allowed to use it. Very smart.

CoffeeRunner · 18/01/2020 19:05

I think it's right that Harry keeps Frogmore Cottage as his UK home, providing he repays the £2.4m do up costs. He will be the son of the King at some point, he can hardly stay in a B&B when he comes to visit.

I love the Queen's statement today. No matter what is actually going on behind closed doors and what she is actually feeling, she is very much leaving the door open for him to change his mind one day (as I read it) and is behaving with so much public dignity.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 18/01/2020 19:05

So if H&M are not going to use their HRH titles, so I guess that means they still have them but can't use them in this new life of theirs.
Which I guess leaves a way back into the royal fold if H&M change their mind i.e. HMQ must have said you can use HRH again if/when you come back to us/being full time royals.
Very clever & diplomatic of HMQ with not taking away H&M's titles (after all Harry was born a HRH & the Dukedom of Sussex was a wedding gift from HMQ.) but just putting them back in the 'box' for safekeeping.

..........wonders if the HRH titles are feeling ok about being put on the shelf?

The80sweregreat · 18/01/2020 19:05

I bet the security will be funded by us!
We will never know. I hope they are billed for Frogmore straight away.

DeeZastris · 18/01/2020 19:06

I’ll be interested what their idea of financial independence means.
There’s only so much money to be made from being an ex- royal. Maybe they’ll make that fabled $500 million or maybe they’ll be flogging shite on QVC in 5 yrs time 🤔.

SingingLily · 18/01/2020 19:06

What??? I take time out to eat dinner and all hell breaks loose.

My initial thought is that "won't use" their HRH titles is a diplomatic way of putting it. You are an HRH or you're not.

That means no more curtsying, no more bowing. Harry loses precedence over those who are still HRH such as Beatrice and Eugenie.

The Americans may not care...but the Canadians will.

MeghanMountbattenSausage · 18/01/2020 19:07

If they are seen as turning their backs on Britain, but still expecting us to finance any aspect of their lives, there will be a huge backlash

I hope Prince Charles cuts them off at the knees. When you have money on tap and don't have to work for it, you have no respect for it.

Ok so they are losing the sovereign grant. They will still by all accounts have 95% of their former cash paid by the Duchy of Cornwall.

They don't know the meaning of financial independence and never will.

DuchessofWoke · 18/01/2020 19:08

That statement from The Queen has been worded very carefully. I bet Harry insisted on

  1. The reference to “after months of conversations” to make clear he didn’t blindside them with this.
  1. The line about how proud they all are of Meghan and how she’s one of the family. That’s absolute rubbish in my opinion. If she was one of the family and they were all so proud of her, she wouldn’t have cleared off to Canada in this fashion and leaked all this racism stuff in the press.
Parker231 · 18/01/2020 19:08

Sounds like a good agreement between them all . I hope they are now allowed to move on with their lives and create the future they want. I wish them the best for the future.

The80sweregreat · 18/01/2020 19:08

The HRH titles are not OK at all ! They are a bit pissed off . They are not thriving.

DeRigueurMortis · 18/01/2020 19:08

So the other thing with "not use rather than use" is presumably how it relates to Archie.

Yes, they turned down titles but when Charles becomes King, as grandson to the monarch, Archie has a right to style himself as HRH Prince Archie.

One thing I've never understood is how this works in relation to parents refusing titles for their children (like Edward/Sophie).

Their children are entitled to be called Princess/Prince.

What happens when they turn 18? Do they have the right to say "thanks but no thanks mum and dad, I'll take that Prince/Princess moniker now..."

peaceanddove · 18/01/2020 19:08

It makes sense that Harry will no longer be allowed to represent various military functions. Have quite a few family members in the armed forces and his behaviour has not gone down well AT ALL in the rank and file. I doubt the military want him representing them in anyway.

womanvsfood · 18/01/2020 19:09

Lurker jumping on here. But pleased to report am a-okay!

Does anyone know what the deal will be under this new arrangement for big state occasions such as (dare I say it) the Queen's funeral? Charles's coronation? What will their status be? Still core family with the 'seniors' or relegated to the cheap seats?

SingingLily · 18/01/2020 19:10

Agree, DuchessofWoke.

That's very diplomatic.

It's also leaving the door open for Harry at some point in the future.

MM, though - Boats. Burned.
