Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

I think this announcement by Harry has a bit of the somewheres versus everywheres.

And it shows the rise of social media influencers.

MissSmith1 · 15/01/2020 11:56

I’m also angry about how the UK is being portrayed around the world

What , you mean bitchy, spiteful and superior like our popular media. That's us I'm afraid. A nasty lot.

TeaNero · 15/01/2020 11:56

Oh my word.

Duchess Meghan made a surprise visit to @DEWCVancouver today — a safe space providing support, necessities and meals to over 500 women and children every day. Over tea with staff, Meghan learned more about the facilities and discussed issues affecting women in the community.

Positioning herself with her royal title rather than good old Megan so much for wanting to live as simple life lol.

Also the use of 'Over tea with staff' well, as an American Megan doesn't obviously know all the ins and outs of what 'tea' could mean. If I was cynical I'd say she is mocking the British public with her reference to tea, it just sounds ridiculous the way it's phrased. Ridiculous and pretentious.

The staff on the picture look like they were steamrolled. Meggie in the middle with the gals "look, how popular and loved I am".

Alsohuman · 15/01/2020 11:56

Poor Meghan, it must have been awful for her phoning and phoning her dad begging him to speak to her, booking plane tickets for him which he refused to use, and for him to just ghost and ditch her just because she wasn’t giving him money any more

Except she didn’t “phone and phone him”. The phone records are key to the DM’s case.

MissS09090 · 15/01/2020 11:56

No wonder every single one of his children and grandchildren is estranged from him

What??? His other two kids are in contact with him? Samantha was sticking up for him non stop in the media?

I’m no fan of his but I think they’re just as bad as each other. To make out Thomas is this monster doesn’t exactly bear out the facts.

He’s living in a tiny Mexican home & has gone bankrupt & was still paying off Meghans Uni fees (in America they can be hundreds of thousands of dollars) whilst she was earning £350k a year on Suits. She’s used her friends to lie about him to People magazine & he only showed the letter after that.

@SerenDippitty

Royals, for example, Amber Phillips ,who agreed to convert from catholism to C of E (Catholics can't marry into the Royal's and have titles .....or somesuch bigotory)
Did she change her name from Autumn at the same time too? Grin

DuchessofWoke · 15/01/2020 11:58

She should have visited them privately, if they were such good friends.

The visit to the Grenfell charity wasn’t publicised as a goodbye visit. It was disingenuous to portray it as a normal royal engagement if she was, in fact, saying goodbye. That entire day, starting with the Canada House trip, was just bizarre.

Yes. And that would also be well deserved.

Absolutely...I love a good gossip!

What , you mean bitchy, spiteful and superior like our popular media. That's us I'm afraid. A nasty lot.

Speak for yourself...I think describing a whole nation as nasty is just a bit worse than having a harmless (and it is harmless) chat about issues of public interest.

MissS09090 · 15/01/2020 12:02

She worked with them for months and built up close relationships with them

Why post it on social media if it’s just to say goodbye? It’s not an official royal engagement

I never understand people who rant on about a whole group of people or a nation being intrinsically horrible or "nasty". When it's the country they are from themselves (and presumably at least a proportion of their loved ones) it seems even odder.

Antigonads · 15/01/2020 12:05

I feel terribly saddened by it all. I have stuck up for Meghan, in my own head, since she appeared on the scene, but now I am starting to doubt myself.

Both Meghan and Harry seem terribly self absorbed and have created a hugely unnecessary shitstorm. The response from the Queen seemed very measured and sounds as if they all care deeply about Harry and just want him to be happy.

But you can't have your cake and eat it.

roisinagusniamh · 15/01/2020 12:05

Didn't she tell him he couldn't make a speech at the wedding?

@NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite you’ve misattributed a post that I quoted to me. I didn’t notice the Amber thing when I quoted that post. [big grin]

There is nothing wrong with the visit. However it is wrong to presume that they went there to say goodbye. Is it confirmed?

I think the major criticism comes from the timing it was posted. It was a literally bombshell announcement that they would step back from the senior royals. I don't think it was a proper time to post their charity work.. It appeared to me even quite provoking somehow.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 15/01/2020 12:10

Oh I fully agree that Meghan came from an extremely toxic background. Sadly that does often rub off and is perpetuated and I do think it's why she's disliked. People sense a falseness, something off about her. Maybe that's just the face she puts on, maybe she is adorable in real life but she's managed to alienate millions of people with her behaviour.

For those who keep whinging about "gossip". Have a read of "Sapiens" by Noah Harari. He asserts that gossip is a human bonding tool that helped established communities and contributes to how society is set up even today. I can't remember exactly what he said but that was the essence of it. Not the first time I have heard that either. Might have a look for more info later.

MissS09090 · 15/01/2020 12:13

was still paying off Meghans Uni fees

Pretty sure that’s not true

It came out yesterday in the legal papers, it the top story all of yesterday? Is Thomas lying about something SO easily provable in legal documents?

Again I get that you’re a Meghan super fan but you’re making yourself look stupid at this point. Maybe look into it first before flat out denying things.

ajandjjmum · 15/01/2020 12:17

Nice that they took time to say goodbye to the Grenfell group.

Not so nice that they didn't take the time to say goodbye to their family - particularly their sick, 97 year old GF/GFIL.
