Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

I think she looks a bit pregnant in that cream jumper..

How long before the mail jump on that and start speculating who the father is ?

SerenDippitty · 15/01/2020 10:15

Sorry GoFiguire, Samcro got there before you.

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 10:17

The DM knows what they are doing here, they should just stop with the publicity.
It's just keeping her in the limelight even more. Let the Canadian press do all this instead and see how they are received by them ( or let's see how interested they are in all this)

roisinagusniamh · 15/01/2020 10:18

Not sure whether I like Meghan Markle or not but I have to admire her for giving the Royal family the two fingers. She was chuffed to be amember for about two minutes and then realised how suffocating it is.
Look at the hoop, jumping, simpering and Kowtowing other commoners did to marry into the Royals, for example, Amber Phillips ,who agreed to convert from catholism to C of E (Catholics can't marry into the Royal's and have titles .....or somesuch bigotory)
They did give their children rathe 'common' names though!

notmoresheep · 15/01/2020 10:18

it really shows how anti women mn is it really shows how anti social-climbing phoneys MN is. FTFY.

JulietJanuary · 15/01/2020 10:21

Many people do convert to get married though.

Mostly in my world it is marrying into the Catholic church. I know step children who have been converted in as well.

TitchyP · 15/01/2020 10:22

I find it so incredible that no-one appears to have advised M to lie low for a bit. Surely even H would have the sense to realise that turning up for a photo-op as if nothing had happened would be adding fuel to the fire? I wonder if he knew she was going?

halcyondays · 15/01/2020 10:22

I suppose it’s always been a mix of the royals being sent off to cut ribbons in Rochdale on a rainy day and of being able to champion their own chosen charities/pet projects. The Queen apparently wasn’t keen on Diana’s support for AIDS charities and thought she should find something “naicer” but I would imagine she gives them a freer rein now.

But it has never been a job where you get to pick and choose what you do the whole time.

And given how much money they already had and we’re getting from the Sovereign Grant and Charles, plus the free housing and holidays from whoever, it’s incredible to complain that the current structure prevents you from earning an income. You were already getting far more money than most of us will ever see.

JulietJanuary · 15/01/2020 10:24

The Duchess had engaged a top US PR company in the autumn but they have apparently said they no longer represent her.

On what basis is she visiting the refuge? Is she representing the Queen or Charles who bankrolls her? Or the people of the UK? Or is she just there as a humanitarian?

Planeplane · 15/01/2020 10:25

it really shows how anti women mn is

Yawn...
I'm not anti women at all but perfectly happy to be anti woman at times. How ridiculous to suggest we should be supportive of all women at all times. I think it's interesting that often he people who hate us criticising MM would be perfectly happy to have a good old bitch about Ivanka or Melania or say Thatcher (not saying that's you Samcro.)

StartupRepair · 15/01/2020 10:26

In whose service was the visit?

SerenDippitty · 15/01/2020 10:28

Royals, for example, Amber Phillips ,who agreed to convert from catholism to C of E (Catholics can't marry into the Royal's and have titles .....or somesuch bigotory)

Didn’t she renounce her Catholic faith so Peter Phillips wouldn’t have to leave the line of succession? Like he was ever going to become King anyway.

MarySidney · 15/01/2020 10:29

Catholics can't marry into the Royal's and have titles .....or somesuch bigotory

I believe the heir to the throne can't marry a Catholic (or couldn't, don't know if it's still the case). But Peter Phillips has never been likely to succeed to the throne, and he doesn't have a title, so it's irrelevant.

Princess Michael of Kent was and AFAIK still is a Catholic.

MsPepperPotts · 15/01/2020 10:29

"Give them something to hate and they will buy it"
This has been the DM's mantra for over a century and people just fall for this crap every day.

SeperatedSwans · 15/01/2020 10:30

Gosh I decided to have an early night and a new thread this morning 🤣

I would also like to know in what capacity she was visiting this refuge? Did she have security with her? If so who paid for it? Who arranged this engagement?

halcyondays · 15/01/2020 10:39

Yes, Princess Michael is a Catholic but Prince Michael had to give up his place in the line of succession when he married her I think. But he’s since been reinstated since they changed the rules.

notmoresheep · 15/01/2020 10:39

I don’t read the DM.

MoonbeamsAndCaterpillars · 15/01/2020 10:42

Sweet jesus, I wouldn't read the DM if it was free.

AutumnCrow · 15/01/2020 10:46

The visit was to 'boost the staff's spirits' apparently. The psychology of which is intriguing.

halcyondays · 15/01/2020 10:47

I’m guessing the visit was something Meghan arranged herself, since they’re not on an official tour. I suppose the existing security had no choice but to stay on with Archie in Canada and now Meghan. Don’t know what will happen with their security now though.

The issue of the court case is interesting, I do wonder if it will be dropped or settled somehow now due to the prospect of Meghan and her father on opposite sides of the courtroom and the swathes of press coverage that will bring. What on earth possessed them or who was advising them to bring the case in the first place, it was always going to be damaging whatever the outcome.
