Glad you appreciate the song lyrics Grin

Thanks for explaining why the old thread went poof MsMaisel
I actually had a constructive MN-free morning for once and then came back to find it had gone.

No @BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo I think C&C look very happy together. The difference between Charles now and Charles in the 80s and 90s is glaring. I still wish they'd retire and be happy privately

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 02/05/2019 23:48

I also agree that I don’t see how the royal family can continue in the same vein once the Queen dies, for the next 70-100 years we will have doddery old men as our Head of State? something dramatic will have to change I think, sorry to be crass but it just not “sexy” enough in this instagram age, I think if we have to have an unelected Head of State then they have 30 years max so are in the job from the age of 30-60.

Royal Family Mastermind Qs for those of you who know those things or who can be bothered to google

How many 'working royals' are there?

What does being a 'working royal' consist of - is there a set number of engagements per year?

goldenchicken · 02/05/2019 23:53

Great. Another thread to add to my hidden threads. (Along with the other Royal family bashing/Meghan bashing bile.) 👍

I haven't read a single post except the first one.

Goodbye.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 02/05/2019 23:53

Rubber I think any relationship Charles had would be better than the disastrous one with Diana to be fair, Charles and Camilla just seem far more separate than I would expect of a passionate, the world is against us type of love affair, mind you I expect getting on in years would dampen that anyway, just my musings.

lyralalala · 02/05/2019 23:54

How many 'working royals' are there?

HM, Charles, Camilla, William, Kate, Harry, Meghan, Andrew, Edward, Sophie, Anne, Duke of Kent, Duke of Gloucester, Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra. I think.

What does being a 'working royal' consist of - is there a set number of engagements per year?

I think any of them doing any engagements are working royals. I think the difference is in the 'full time' ones. I'm not sre where the line is on that.

lyralalala · 02/05/2019 23:56

A total of 3,793 engagements were performed by the 15 members of the Royal Family classed as working royals within the Court Circular.

royalcentral.co.uk/uk/princessanne/princess-anne-was-the-busiest-royal-in-2018-having-completed-518-engagements-113624

lyralalala · 02/05/2019 23:58

The Gloucester and Kents did 574 of the 3793 engagements. That's quite a bit more than I thought they would at this stage.

ByeClaire · 03/05/2019 00:05

Thanks lyra that’s really interesting 🙂

It was that line I was trying to work out. So Beatrice for example is non-working. Does that mean she won’t do any official engagements?

Do they get paid for their engagements on a per engagement basis or a salary for being a working royal?

Has Oliver Platt ever starred in a film or television programme about the British royal family?

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 00:05

Rubber I think any relationship Charles had would be better than the disastrous one with Diana to be fair,

Can't argue with that! Grin

Charles and Camilla just seem far more separate than I would expect of a passionate, the world is against us type of love affair,

Can't argue with that either. Smile

They were pushing sixty by the time they married, though.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 03/05/2019 00:08

Yes they have probably had enough excitement to last them a lifetime anyway!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 03/05/2019 00:09

Though the most successful marriages don't always have to be passionate & sizzling.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 03/05/2019 00:10

For all we know C & C may have their own 'sex chair'. Or whips & chains or more likely whips & halter Grin

lyralalala · 03/05/2019 00:11

As far as I can make out non working royals don't do any official engagements.

So I assume Trooping the colour and the likes must be royal occasions rather than engagements as they attend those.

And there must be something about it being their own engagement because Eugenie went to the Maundy Service with the Queen, but she's also non working.

That I have no idea. I always thought they just got reimbursed for outfits and travel etc, but then how would the Gloucesters for example pay rent and food? I'm curious now and I'm going to Google. See you in a week!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 03/05/2019 00:15

Tracey can you pass me the brain bleach please? Not an image I want for this late hour! 😆

AGnu · 03/05/2019 00:16

See you in a week!

We'll still be here, waiting for the baby...

ByeClaire · 03/05/2019 00:16

lyra you forget the very serious Oliver Platt Q Wink

Thanks, I do find the whole working royal thing interesting. I figure they must get a stipend or salary.

lyralalala · 03/05/2019 00:30

Ok apparently they get an allowance from the Queen that comes from income that's not the Sovereign Grant. So I assume income from private income (stocks, shares, dividends and maybe the Dutchy of Lancaster income).

Their expenses for official engagements are paid from the Grant, but everything else if from the Queen's own, and their own (I assume most of them have trust funds and inheritences) income.

I have no idea about Oliver Platt Smile

lyralalala · 03/05/2019 00:32

For all we know C & C may have their own 'sex chair'. Or whips & chains or more likely whips & halter grin

That's so uncalled for Envy

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 00:32

For all we know C & C may have their own 'sex chair'. Or whips & chains or more likely whips & halter

Shock Do we have any brain bleach left? Or did we use it all up last thread?

LaMarschallin · 03/05/2019 00:33

Or whips & chains or more likely whips & halter

Sticks and stones may break my bones
But whips and chains excite me...

lyralalala · 03/05/2019 00:36

I've not got a vision of some royal lackey monitoring the thread going to their boss and being like "Erm, you know that Mumsnet thread?"

"If they are being vile about MM get it closed..."

"What if they are suggesting C & C are into kinky sex? Hmm "

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 00:36

😂

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 03/05/2019 00:47

Will I get sent to the tower for this?
