What's the Sainsbury event?

Something tells me it's not a weekly supermarket shop (even if dogfood is in special offer)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/05/2019 13:45

A further point about the Sainsburys visit is that, on being shown the self service checkout, she asked if it could be "cheated" - in other words, stuff taken without being scanned/paid for

Maybe I'm being totally odd, but it just seemed surprising she'd even think to ask something like that. Perhaps she's more clued up than I expected ... or maybe the RF's grasping behaviour made it a natural thing to wonder about?

EdithWeston · 23/05/2019 18:47

I think the Queen is very clued up

(Horsey people almost always are)

lyralalala · 28/05/2019 08:59

I always imagine the Queen as being very clued up. I bet she enjoys coming up with an unexpected question.

My DC is obsessed with the Belgian royals again. Their history with the Congo is absolutely hideous. King Léopold II was obsessed with building a colony for himself.

In the boom for rubber his henchmen used to chop off the hands of workers who didn’t meet their quota of sap. If they needed the worker they’d chop off a hand or foot of their child instead. They estimate the genocide of around 10 million people under his regime.

That was not mentioned in any of the museums I seen in Belgium! Now he seems to be mostly remembered for the fancy public buildings he built (with the rubber money).

RoseAndRose · 28/05/2019 11:28

That's horrific!

lyralalala · 28/05/2019 12:27

I always felt quite sorry (in a way) for the Belgian royals as the story of Albert I (Leopold's son) dying in the mountaineering accident then his daughter-in-law Queen Astrid dying in a car crash seemed like they had several generations of tragedy.

But it rather followed a generation of absolutely horrific barbaric acts carried out on Leopold's personal orders.

Various royals being trotted out for the state visit.

I bet you George’s chair would never make it to the exhibits room lol

AppleKatie · 03/06/2019 17:53

I’d love to know what the royals said to each other in preparation for this visit 😃

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/06/2019 18:15

I bet you George’s chair would never make it to the exhibits room

I'd love to see HM explaining the history of that artefact to the Trumps.😆

RoseAndRose · 03/06/2019 22:11

He'd probably have it copied !

lyralalala · 03/06/2019 22:13

It’ll be fun to see if Rose is at this state dinner and where she’ll be sat. She was sat next to Harry last time. He’s not there and William is basically sitting where he was

noodlenosefraggle · 03/06/2019 22:20

Is there any reason she would be invited? Id ave thought it would cause a world of headaches if the couples have fallen out!

lyralalala · 03/06/2019 22:28

Her husband’s job dictates that she is invited.

lyralalala · 03/06/2019 22:31

Plus there would be the ‘snub’ angle if they didn’t “Queen snubs William’s mistress” so I think they’d be more likely to play the “of course she’s invited as normal as there’s no story here” line

EdithWeston · 04/06/2019 06:54

I've just seen a Matt cartoon, showing a (fake) tweet

"Just visited Buckingham Palave, like Trump Tower but with less gold"Grin

beanaseireann · 04/06/2019 07:18

On the other thread on Royal style somebody posted a photo of Rose at Buckingham Palace last night.

noodlenosefraggle · 04/06/2019 09:18

Cant find it. Who was she sitting next to?

beanaseireann · 04/06/2019 10:19

She was walking down a corridor with another lady.

noodlenosefraggle · 04/06/2019 10:28

God isn't that worse, when everyone else is paired off Male to female?! Its like shes been shamed! William, of course is not!

lyralalala · 04/06/2019 13:12

It’s not always paired male to female - the Countess of Wessex and Ivanka Trump were paired together. It’s all about where you are sitting.

Rose didn’t have her tiara on last night which was strange. She also didn’t have her wedding ring on, but she’s rumoured to be pregnant so that’s not uncommon to not be able to get rings on.

lyralalala · 04/06/2019 13:15

beanaseireann · 04/06/2019 15:54

Both Rose and Kate are so thin toned.

noodlenosefraggle · 05/06/2019 07:35

I read that Rose's husband is 59 or something and she is 34.

EdithWeston · 05/06/2019 07:44

I thought inability to get rings on came later in pregnancy, not very early stages, when it is all rumour because nothing is either announced or perceptible.

Yes, who goes in with whom will have been arranged by the protocol list.

Were tiaras being worn by guests? I didn't look much at the pix (off to google)
