Daisypie

I think the Queen mother was told that a further pregnancy would be unsafe so they had to stop at two.

That's interesting, I wonder why.....

Something I didn't know was that the Queen had a c section with Charles in 1948. I don't know if her other 3 were csections. Surgery can't have been amazing back then, so she did well to have another 3 after that!

BestIsWest · 02/05/2019 21:37

Just marking place by mentioning that my youngest was 17 days late. He only showed up then because he was induced.

BestIsWest · 02/05/2019 21:38

At least one was a natural birth (according to The Crown).

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 02/05/2019 21:44

BP have briefed a few journos that Meghan is overdue. (Is in the DM)

BalloonSlayer · 02/05/2019 21:45

I have never heard that the Queen had had even one caesarean! In those days it would have meant a caesarean for any subsequent birth and unlikely that a woman would have four children, so I remain sceptical.

I remember reading that the Queen Mother had a caesarean when she had Princess Margaret but I don't think that's true either.

BalloonSlayer · 02/05/2019 21:48

If the last Duke of York did say about himself on his wedding night: "I was very good" he would not have meant that he was a red hot lover who made the earth move. People didn't talk like that then. He would have meant he didn't hurt or distress his new bride.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 02/05/2019 21:50

BalloonSlayer It's reported in a few different places on the Internet. But it's the Internet so who knows. Apparently an operating theatre was set up in Buckingham Palace, and Prince Philip spent to whole surgery playing squash (elsewhere of course!).

TooManyPaws · 02/05/2019 21:51

When I was young, back in the dim and distant 70s, I was told that the QM had had two caesareans and that was the limit in the 30s. QE was born at her grandparents' London house and Margaret at Glamis so they must have been 'in house' operations. There was also rumours floating about that she had had a colostomy at the same time due to the operations but that seemed to fizzle out without ever being denied, to my knowledge.

I've finally caught up! I dipped in & out of the original thread, read all the way through the first one with this title but the next one was gone before I got to it. Finally trawled my way through the next #2 & have ignored my DC most of the day to make it to here... & I still beat the baby! AFAWK Grin

So pleased I managed to catch up in time to share in the excitement & MM adoration! & sex chair pictures...

MissEliza · 02/05/2019 22:06

I assumed the QM and George V1 had fertility issues. The Queen was born three years after they married and then Margaret four years later. Given the lack of reliable contraception and the pressure for an heir, you wouldn't think they'd wait to start a family.

Plastictattoo · 02/05/2019 22:06

I now have a sex chair ear worm!!
Only on MN!

JadziaSnax · 02/05/2019 22:15

Brilliant threads. I'm thoroughly enjoying the royal gossip, history and interesting asides.

AppleKatie · 02/05/2019 22:32
  • Sexchair you're a Sexchair You give two women to me when His Royal Highness needs to come along Sexchair Sexchair you're my Sexchair And baby you can turn a stick man on.*

This might be the most hilariously inappropriate song ever. Picture me trying to read this thread while feeling slightly intimidated by a hoard of pissed up football fans inexplicably being on the same train as me 😮🤣 ...better not start mouthing the words.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 02/05/2019 22:42

Ladies, Gentlemen & Everyone Else I give you The Mumsnet Sex Choir Grin

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 02/05/2019 22:45

ByeClaire are there no limits to your talent? It's the Stick Man bit that makes the song 🤣

BishopBrennansArse · 02/05/2019 22:46

Oh God I have a sex chair ear worm 🙄

If this baby doesn’t come soon I am taking my non-existent medical qualifications and a pair of forceps and heading to Frogmore Cottage myself.

It’s not exactly headline news that a 1st baby is late.

My first was late - thank fuck - as he was due on 6th Sep 1997 - Day of POW funeral 🙈

RubberTreePlant · 02/05/2019 23:11

Really blatant attempt to get any discussion of the Duke of Cambridge’s affair shut down.

Oh is THAT what sparked it? I missed it.

Okay, well I'm ready to post four pieces of historic royal trivia per minute if it happens again 😏

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/05/2019 23:16

It's been like that for a while, MsMaisel; there's one particular poster (plus a supporter) who's usually behind them all

Funnily enough they're still posting, but not on any of the royal threads - which makes me wonder if HQ have had a word

lyralalala · 02/05/2019 23:19

Jesus Christ those song lyrics!!

Amazing combination of perfection and earworm!

CheshireChat · 02/05/2019 23:25

Despite not having any interest in the RF, I've read all the threads (except for the deleted one) and found it interesting overall.

Now I know altogether too much about a subject that I'm ultimately not interested in, yet I'm still reading the thread HmmGrin

Maybe because it's overall such a peaceful thread on AIBU??

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 02/05/2019 23:40

Found you all! Thanks for new thread! Going back to Charles and Camilla, considering there life long love affair and all the angst and trauma to so many lives, does anyone else feel there marriage feels a bit of a damp squib? If rumours are to be believed they have pretty separate lives and homes, all just seems a bit meh?

AppleKatie · 02/05/2019 23:43

Well the grass isn’t always greener is it?

Life is always going to be a bit dull after marriage if I you’ve been trading off the thrill of the affair for so long beforehand.
