Yay!! Gone are the days when we were allowed to complain about anyone but the sodding royal family.

Wasn't the legal advice regarding C&C's marriage sealed for 100 years

Not certain, but I think it's just during Charles's lifetime?

As to "why?" I guess we may never know, but a cynic might well feel that if the report's contents had suited Charles, he'd have been only too glad to wave it around crying "Look!! Look!! I was RIGHT!!"

Haworthia · 02/05/2019 20:05

The whole investiture, all the pomp and ceremony, was dreamt up by Antony Armstrong Jones from scratch. It was completely faux. Like a broadway or west end production. Even the "crown" was made like a prop and topped off with a ping pong ball sprayed gold.

That’s mad!

The first I knew of the investiture was when I saw papped pics of Olivia Colman et al filming scenes for The Crown. I’d assumed this was a ceremony that all heirs had to endure over the centuries, but it wasn’t, really? The hell? I hope the show does a good job of covering it Grin

ByeClaire · 02/05/2019 20:05

That was before he was in line to be King though. So the Duke of York having two girls is perfectly acceptable, but I think in the 1930s they’d have pushed them to have at least one more if they knew there was going to be a monarch amongst his children.

"Come on old chap, you can do it, just stiffen up and think of England."

Now now, it was tradition... 1626, 1911, 1969... Regular as clockwork those investitures lol

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/05/2019 20:10

lyra you're right that daughters would have mattered less before the Duke of York was king, but if reports of his remarks to Greig are true, maybe he'd ... errr ... run out of steam by then? Especially given the stress of the job he was so obviously unsuitable unprepared for?

lyralalala · 02/05/2019 20:10

Envy (Def not envy!)

You know that strange rattling sound you can hear?

It's Queen Mary spinning in her casket Grin

MagicKingdomDizzy · 02/05/2019 20:17

Well thread 3 (or 5?) is proving just as eclectic as the last ones. Good work everyone!

As a (non royal related) sidenote, do you think we're annoying everyone in AIBU by having a never-ending thread that is quite blatantly not an AIBU??

Grin
RubberTreePlant · 02/05/2019 20:23

Meh. AIBU needs some cheer.

WoodenToyKitchen · 02/05/2019 20:25

Can I just say how much I'm enjoying these threads. I'm on mat leave and have just finished a deep dive on the Titanic, so modern royalty can be my new obsession for a while.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 02/05/2019 20:25

Yes there'll be a thread on AIBU 'AIBU About Certain Topics Being Discussed Here'

WoodenToyKitchen · 02/05/2019 20:26

Not a literal deep dive, sadly

ByeClaire · 02/05/2019 20:26

"And I love Meghan, her beautiness, her devotion to good causes. Just hope she's having that baby soon or else she will be well pissed off (mine were 11 and 9 days late, little sods!)"

Just going through the thread, read that bit about “devotion to good causes”. Absolute BS, going to have to bow out. Devotion to herself more like.

@summerof68 I think @yolofish was being sarcastic Grin
We had an early thread deleted - I'm not quite sure why as I wasn't on it at that particular time - because of a lot of 'negative' MM posts apparently, and were basically told we have to talk positively about this a pregnant lady. So we make sure we do Wink

Despite there being so much historical royal chat on this thread, it did start from discussing Prince William and Kate and recent speculated events, and MM and Harry has part of that, with a dollop of cynicism and I can't see why we can't continue to do that provided we follow MNHQ's spirit of the site line.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 02/05/2019 20:27

I found it! Here's a link to the first one in case anyone wants to see where it all started and fancies a read......

Thank you Absofuckinglutely I bet you weren't expecting it to run to 5 threads Grin

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 02/05/2019 20:27

WoodenToyKitchen I was just about to say that's quite an adventurous maternity leave Grin

ByeClaire · 02/05/2019 20:28

So yeah, come back @summerof68 and pull up a sex chair (joke from last thread)

And baby you can turn a stick man on.

Genius!

That has Number One written all over it GrinGrinGrin

yolofish · 02/05/2019 21:03

oh thank god! people understand my love of Meghan! thought I might have to explain myself there... She is very beautiful and has great legs.

OTH she is not quite as beautiful as my black Labrador, but tbh its pretty tough competition, and I think MM is probably much cleverer (looks sideways at dog who cannot find ball if I throw it in the wrong direction despite being bred to fucking retrieve...)

I now have a sex chair ear worm. This is not good.

Daisypie · 02/05/2019 21:31

I think the Queen mother was told that a further pregnancy would be unsafe so they had to stop at two.
