Don’t use it yet just putting it here ready for when part 2 runs out....

Finally commenting after enjoying all the weird and wonderful snippets of information I’ve learnt from these threads.
I don’t know anything about birth certificates but a friend’s FIL is a lord and his profession was down as Peer of the Realm on her marriage certificate. Seems weird when he has a normal job but apparently that’s the ‘done thing’!

AppleKatie · 07/05/2019 18:56

Watching Kate and Will try to be normal is like seeing your old headmaster in the bath.

Weird in the extreme 😂

Bless em for trying.

I’d definitely write peer of the realm too if I could- I mean that’s probably the best bit about it!

lyralalala · 07/05/2019 18:56

I just hope the regular inhabitants of the royal family section don’t wonder wtf we’ve brought to their space

AppleKatie · 07/05/2019 18:57

Everyone needs a sex chair 🤣

pearls are probably being clutched!

WoodenToyKitchen · 07/05/2019 19:45

Probably best that it's not aibu currently. People are demanding blood because of the whole announcing the labour when the baby was already here.

lyralalala · 07/05/2019 19:49

I just hope it doesn’t slow the thread down too much.

This random thread has kept me going through some late nights with a non sleeping small child!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/05/2019 20:05

Just out of interest, who ARE the regular inhabitants of the Royal Family topic?

AppleKatie · 07/05/2019 20:07

Good question

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/05/2019 20:27

A-HA! A gin and Dubonnet on the side table, Corgi hairs on the sofa, I think we're getting somewhere...

WoodenToyKitchen · 07/05/2019 20:43

Well, thanks to the threads, I've gone down the rabbit hole of mistresses(and misters?). And with the majority, I'm finding links to modern aristocracy, which fascinates me. 3 steps and boom, Kit Harington

lyralalala · 07/05/2019 20:53

I watched a documnetary on YouTube and then just let it run. The next one was a doc on Grace Kelly and how her life changed when she became Princess of Monaco.

So I've sent my DC down the Monaco adoption/succession route as I don't want to deal with Albert of Belgium dying by falling off a cliff again!

BishopBrennansArse · 07/05/2019 21:27

Personally I can't stand Nick Witchell so I really enjoyed his displeasure at the way the D and D o S handled things.

I also loved Charles' comments that time when he thought the mic was off "I cannot stand that man"

Joining in to the 3rd part of a thread with hundreds of posts already, with some trepidation.

I was wondering if anyone had been watching the programme this evening about Kanga (Lady Tryon).

There weren't just '3 of us' in that marriage, but the fourth is always airbrushed out

lyralalala · 07/05/2019 23:06

Ooh What channel was that on @SquirmOfEels?

I'll have a hunt for it.

And don't be nervous. It's a pretty easy going thread(s). Just kinda random. Or very random...

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/05/2019 23:08

I watched that programme the other night. Very interesting the rivalry between Kanga and Camilla, and the way Diana decided to align herself with Kanga. What an unpleasant set up it all was.

RubberTreePlant · 07/05/2019 23:22

Beg your pardon @lyralalala ??ConfusedGrin

Not just me then...Grin

King Albert I of Belgium died in 1934 while out mountain climbing. He went alone and his body was found at the bottom of a cliff. There were lots of conspiracy theories about his death. He was heavily involved in war time actitivies so had many enemies.

Princess Charlotte of Monaco, the mother of Prince Rainier, grandmother of the current Prince Albert, was the illegitimate daughter of Louis II of Monaco.

Louis had no legitimate heir so lots of rule changes were done so that he could adopt her, make her his legal heir, to stop the rule of Monaco going to some distant cousin. The law stated for adoptions the child had to be under 18 and the parent over 50. It was changed to make the child under 21 as Charlotte was 20, but the parent age wasn't changed despite Louis being 48.

To deal with some of the fudgery she renounced her claim to throne to her son Prince Rainier just before he turned 21 and never actually became the Princess of Monaco herself.

lyralalala · 07/05/2019 23:50

Also I just realised that I think that sentence highlighted is probably the most bizarre I've ever written Grin

Totally understand your bafflement @RubberTreePlant!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/05/2019 00:28

You made your DC watch the rest of the documentary or you're really Queen/King of somewhere & now I'm confused & have forgotten what else I was going to say Grin

RubberTreePlant · 08/05/2019 00:35

or you're really Queen/King of somewhere

That must be it! She's adopting her own children, Monaco-style Smile

I'd never heard that about the King of Belgium! Off to google.

lyralalala · 08/05/2019 01:02

Ha no not the Queen of anywhere sadly.

I watched the documentary and have encouraged my DC down the 'google Monaco royals' (he gets incredibly obsessive about one thing at a time and he's been back onto Kings, Queens and Princesses, recently) as the period of King Albert was horrendous as it involved lots of conversations about how many people fall off cliffs, the injuries caused, who could have pushed him etc.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/05/2019 09:53

Do keep him away from Edward VII and furniture @lyralalala 😆

@UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool

Having a bit of a lie-in* and idly scrolling through MN when I spotted your username. Best I've seen so far and it's cheered me up no end as I've had some bad news this morning.

*Eeek! Bastard phone corrected this to "love-in". Glad I picked up on it as I'm so not in the mood.
