I wonder if it’s a subtle nod to MM’s real name, Rachel? Archie is almost an anagram...
Shall I keep clutching at these here straws? Grin

AppleKatie · 08/05/2019 22:00

That is clutching! Like your thinking though 🤣

I find it hard to believe that anyone’s favourite name is Archie but that’s my failing not theirs! It’s a bold choice, and refusing a title is a strong message.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 09/05/2019 09:46

Another D&DOS thread has been deleted. This time a pile on about their choice of baby name. Things got really quite unkind, not just about the family but towards each other. What's happened to MN? It used to be quite a fun place!

MissEliza · 09/05/2019 10:14

I actually feel sorry for friends of mine who have Archies and see their choice of name getting hammered on social media. I have two friends with Harrisons who are chuffed to bits though. (One of them met PH a few years ago and has been in love with him ever since so she was overjoyed!)

AppleKatie · 09/05/2019 10:17

I have to say I was a little relieved that they didn’t choose a name I like/have used because I don’t want to be the same! (I already have one accidentally royally named child, if I have another people will talk 😂)

Another D&DOS thread has been deleted

Usual posters? If so, it's hard to see why HQ doesn't just ban them, especially as a couple are deleted on practically any thread they join

SenecaFalls · 09/05/2019 13:26

Baby names bring out the worst in some people. I have that subject hidden on MN, but with MM and PH's name choice, it's all over MN right now. I find that hiding baby name subjects on MN is the best way to avoid anti-American sentiment, class-and race-based prejudice (including words like "chav" and referring to people as different types of "trash"), and general nastiness.

These threads in S&B for the most part have stayed civil, I think in part because we have actually developed a kind of community through the discussions. And that's a nice development.

BertrandRussell · 09/05/2019 13:29

I wish he was Archie Merkel-Windsor. That would have set the cat amongst the pigeons!

SchrodingersBrexit · 09/05/2019 13:48

@BertrandRussell bloody hell, that German chancellor has been busy!

BertrandRussell · 09/05/2019 13:53
Grin

lololove · 09/05/2019 13:55

Alsohuman · 09/05/2019 14:03

RubberTreePlant · 09/05/2019 14:43

This isn't S&B @SenecaFalls Smile

We were shunted over to TRF from AIBU.

(Alphabet soup!)

  • @BertrandRussell bloody hell, that German chancellor has been busy!*

Poor Angela gets dragged into everything! Grin

lyralalala · 09/05/2019 15:07

Going back to some of my previous randomness

Just over a year after King Albert I of Belgium died falling in the mountaineering accident his daughter-in-law, Queen Astrid, was killer in a car accident

The video/announcement by Pathe for British screens is just so formal I can just imagine the 10 o’clock news folks trying to be that formal now!

SenecaFalls · 09/05/2019 15:20

RubberTree. I know. I realized after I posted that I was on the wrong thread. Smile

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 09/05/2019 15:25

Three kisses for the Belgians. I have to remember this when greeting my Belgian friends. Only two for the Germans. It gets very complicated, especially now Brits have decided to become kissers. I could do with a list....

InterchangeableEmma · 09/05/2019 20:50

The Dutch also do 3 kisses but start with the opposite cheek to the Belgians. It can be awkward

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 09/05/2019 21:05

Oh for the days of a brisk handshake for the chaps and a gentle nod for the ladies...

ridiculousridiculousness · 18/05/2019 16:38

Anyone catch today's royal wedding?

Because of the history of the royals chat I've been reading on here, I knew so many more royals than this time last year!!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/05/2019 18:03

Pop over to this thread for royal wedding chat!

Royal style & gossip: summer is coming, tiaras better be too! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/styleandd_beauty/3584052-royal-style-gossip-summer-is-coming-tiaras-better-be-too

lyralalala · 18/05/2019 18:04

Yeah I seen bits on the news. Her veil was beautiful. And I do like the Kent tiara

EdithWeston · 18/05/2019 20:35

It would be good to keep this thread going, rather than decamp to S&B.

It's the same weekend as the Sussex wedding last year, but I've only just caught up with the news. Nice that the Duke of Ed was there

lyralalala · 19/05/2019 06:02

Phil looked ok good form as well

EdithWeston · 19/05/2019 20:47

I've just seen that the Duchess of Cambridge has a garden at Chelsea flower show

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-48326318

I wonder how much input she had? She's spoken well about the outdoors and mental health. Don't know how much of a horticulturalist she is
