I am a bit shocked at the ring but also understand it too. Yes, the marriage didn't work out but its is his mum's engagement ring and I liked when he said it was so she was part of the day he decided to spent the rest of his life with Kate.

I sincerely hope that lessons have been learnt over Diana and she never has to go through anything like that. She is bloody thin though.

I can understand why he gave her his mum's ring. To him the history is different to it - it a precious item that belonged to a much loved parent. I would imagine that the two of them dscussed it also.

My wedding ring was made from DH;s grandma's gold ring - it is eve more precious to us because it belonged to a late, much loved clos relative.

I'm no a royalist but I doubt I would be so vocal as you are bring if I was on a US forum commenting about one of the President's dds getting married. I think having his mother's engagement ring is awful. Her marriage was not happy, she divorced his father ( who bought the ring) so surely the ring is only a reminder of an unhappy time, not something to celebrate?
