A Royal Wedding. Exciting.

OP posts:
UnquietDad · 16/11/2010 12:02

A day off would be fine with me, as long as adults are given a paid holiday too. And it's not in school holidays, so that DW benefits.

motherinferior · 16/11/2010 12:02

Nah, isn't he always hanging about making quasi-royal pronouncements? He genuinely seems to 'think' (I use the word generously, obviously) that he has some kind of divine right to tell other people how to live.

HRHCavey · 16/11/2010 12:02

Others have beaten me to it, but I'm going to say it anyway:

Wife of the future King = Queen
Husband of the future Queen = Duke

King outranks Queen so the husband of a Queen is never King, unless he is already King of another country (a la William (King of the Netherlands) and Mary (Queen of England).

I'm sure there has been a contingency fund put to one side to pay for Will's wedding. After all it was always going to happen.

Best of luck to them I say.

Thingumy · 16/11/2010 12:02

Oh fab,another bullshit royal wedding.

Hmm at the BBC news special.

BoobyMcLeaky · 16/11/2010 12:03

No she wouldn't rule, but she'll be a nice accessory though Wink

HRHCavey · 16/11/2010 12:05

Judging by the amount of news pages the BBC have given over to the topic on their website, I suspect the press have known for a little while and were told to keep schtum but be prepared for the announcement.

teej · 16/11/2010 12:06

All very lovely for them and I agree it will probably bring £££ into the UK...
but can News24 go back to news now please?

Actually listening to that report of how she had pictures of him on her wall from an early age etc, it reminds me of Agnetta from ABBA marrying her stalker Hmm

Also LOL to the 1981 references, esp from UQD Grin maybe there is hope for the charts next year?!

jugglers · 16/11/2010 12:06

I think it's lovely.

If one were of a cynical bent, it will bring lots of money into the UK and will also raise the UK's profile for the Olympics the following year.

As someone else said, at least they're patently in love - none of this "What ever love is" claptrap that Chazza came out with when he and Diana got engaged. Idiot man.

teej · 16/11/2010 12:08

Oh UQD - maybe they have co-ordinated this with the Moffatt and that's the REAL reason why there is going to be a mid-season break in 2011?

BitOfFun · 16/11/2010 12:08

MI5 must have dealt with the coke-dealing uncle then.

teej · 16/11/2010 12:08

Sorry that was a Doctor Who reference Blush

NotWhatIDreamed · 16/11/2010 12:09

Why does everyone seem to refer to her as Kate, when the official announcement bit says her name is "Catherine" - I thought Kate was for Katherine or Kathryn?

Cate Blanchett springs to mind for "Catherine" so why K for this young lady?

Doigthebountyeater · 16/11/2010 12:09

We have all become a lot more hard and cynical since the days of Charles and Di's wedding haven't we? People were genuinely excited about that one. Now the only people who'll care will be the Sun readers and some old grannies. I reckon Katie is a bit of an Anne Boleyn. Do you really think William will be faithful to her for the rest of their lives? I think not but it may be that she has accepted that as the price to pay for being queen. I prefer Chelsey. There is something is so cheerfully brash and slightly common about her. I imagine she'd be a lot more fun to go drinking with.

Tidey · 16/11/2010 12:11

I think people have been using Kate and Katie with a K short for Catherine for a very long time, I can only think of two people who use 'Cate'.

TigersChick · 16/11/2010 12:12

Tidey - exactly what I was going to say Grin

NotShortImPomBearSized · 16/11/2010 12:12

Nooooo, it's so unfair, I wanted to be the princess Sad

MmeLindt · 16/11/2010 12:13

Now the only people who'll care will be the Sun readers and some old grannies.

Um, 116 posts in one hour. I think there are a few people interested. For whatever reason.

Nancy66 · 16/11/2010 12:14

I want my DD to be bridesmaid....

PrincessFiorimonde · 16/11/2010 12:28

Queen in own right (like the current one) = queen regnant.

Queen because you're married to a king (like current one's mother, known as Queen Elizabeth while George 6 was alive) = queen consort.

Same title, different constitutional position.

And a queen consort does not have a 'regnal number', e.g. G6's wife was just 'Queen Elizabeth', no number attached.

myproblemblob · 16/11/2010 12:36

I was born in 81 and I remember as I got a little older maybe 7 or 8 I remember being told the prince was only a year younger than me so there was hope.
Sadly I don't think he was looking for a girl in a council estate with a cleaner as a mother and an arse wipe of a dad.

I do think there is something odd about kate can't put my finger on it. I do think it has been planned on her side since a very young age and it does seem she has stalked her prey....... or it could be I'm just jealous Blush

Tidey · 16/11/2010 12:36

No, that was very helpful actually PrincessFiorimonde. Never really understood all that stuff a while back about whether Camilla would be Queen, because I was thinking, 'Well, no she won't, cos there'll be a King'. Unless it was covered by Blackadder, I have no historical knowledge Grin

sue52 · 16/11/2010 12:40

I'm beside myself with indifference.

Thingumy · 16/11/2010 12:42

'I do think it has been planned on her side since a very young age and it does seem she has stalked her prey'

The BBC news special certainly came across that way.
