A Royal Wedding. Exciting.

OP posts:

He was evidently willing to be stalked. There are European princesses and others who are blue blooded who would suit too, but he has stayed with her.

I think it's obvious that he wanted to be sure, given the battleground he grew up in, and also to see if she is up for it - after all, being a Forces wife isn't easy all the time, and to see if she will ready for the media scrutiny. Look what happened with his parents and Price Andrew and Fergie.

Flossie69 · 16/11/2010 12:57

I'm not particularly a royalist, but I think this is lovely news - its just nice to get some good news for a change, in the midst of all the economy doom and gloom. I wish them all the best, and hope they have learnt the lessons from generations past.

Thingumy · 16/11/2010 12:57

Kate's parent's business

Blatherskite · 16/11/2010 13:03

Well I'm a bit annoyed. When I named DD last December, Catherine wasn't even in the top 100 baby names. Now it's likely to become to be common as muck!

Just relieved I talked myself out of Elizabeth as her middle name.

:)

BoobyMcLeaky · 16/11/2010 13:06

Lol scareyteacher, somehow I don't think she'll be having to argue with the DHE crappy MQ's and nuisance neighbours Wink.

BoobyMcLeaky · 16/11/2010 13:08

'with the DHE about crappy MQ's'

fedupofnamechanging · 16/11/2010 13:10

Diana never really took off as a baby name though did it. Catherine is classic, so will always be around, but will never date.

Blatherskite · 16/11/2010 13:12

Ah but that's because Diana is not a particularly nice name. Catherine is the best baby girls name in the whole wide world - obviously Wink

Katyathegringa · 16/11/2010 13:12

JUST realised I have the same name as her (Katherine Elizabeth)

Blatherskite · 16/11/2010 13:16

Almost Katy - according to the BBC, her name is spelt with a C.

I am quite pleased that this does give me carte blanche to nn DD Kate and Katy though. DH insisted on spelling it with a C and I wasn't sure they fitted when you had to change the first letter.

scaryteacher · 16/11/2010 13:16

I didn't mean the MQs bit, but then I've been married to an RN officer for 24 years and never had to do that either - but the fact that the job comes before anything else, which is fine most of the time, but does get wearing on occasions.

UnquietDad · 16/11/2010 13:20

The only Cates I can think of are Blanchett and the one off "Life Unexpected".

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 16/11/2010 13:29

awww I think it's lovely.

I can't believe they (her parents!) became millionaire's after starting a mail order party paper cup business Shock. Though why is her father described as a "buisness man" - whne he was a flight dispatcher when her mother met him........and it was her mum who set up the business???

Aliarse · 16/11/2010 13:32

I bought quite a lot from their website planning Ds' burthday party. They really messed up the order and weren't too sharp in rectifying their mistake. Not impressed and wont be back. How anyone can make money from that operation is beyond me.

Hulababy · 16/11/2010 13:32

I think it is lovely news. Something a bit cheery in the news for a change.

They don't have a long engagement do they - not long to plan a big wedding if it is next Spring or summer.

And once the wedding is here we can no doubt have several threads commenting on the bride's outfit and hair, what the guests wore, what she a bridezilla and so on! lol

I remember when my sister was born - a week after William. My sister's middle name is Dinah, after my great grandma. But the midwives were so adament my mum ment Diana. Mum had to be really insistent about it.

Hulababy · 16/11/2010 13:33

Have used partypieces lots of times without ever knowing who owned it. Have always had excellent online and delivery experience here. And they were always pretty competitive.

AbsofCroissant · 16/11/2010 13:33

According to the BBC website, the place where he proposed (private game lodge in Kenya) is owned by his ex-GF's parents, and he took ex there previously.

Not too sure how I'd feel if DP proposed to me at say, his ex-GF's parents' restaurant (if he had an ex who's parents had a restaurant. I have no idea).

gregssausageroll · 16/11/2010 13:34

I think it is lovely news too and I am not particularly a fan of the Royal Family, especially the closer to the top of the firm you get. I do like Harry and William though and Kate does seem to be quite down to earth.

I just hope the media have learnt by Diana and don't intrude on their lives too much.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 16/11/2010 13:37

HAHA @ the "reaction" from Ladbrokes

"Bookmakers Ladbrokes, which has paid out to punters who bet on a November announcement, said: "We're delighted for the couple but we've shelled out a fortune. We've been caught with our pants down and there's not much we can do apart from grit our teeth and pay out.""

For the first time in the history of married quarters, Defence estates will get their collective finger out and the quarter they move into (if they do) will be like no other quarter.
It will have money spent on it for a start Grin

Marlinspike · 16/11/2010 13:40

Will William be planning the wedding in a forthcoming episode of "Don't Tell the Bride"? What might his theme be?

also I've bought stuff from party pieces, so am practically family - can't wait for the invite!!

gregssausageroll · 16/11/2010 13:41

oooh imagine.....Four Weddings!

expatinscotland · 16/11/2010 13:42

For all the people who don't care about this scrounging family, the ridiculousness that is 'royalty', William the Bald and his bowlegged gold-digging throwback to the 1950s, join in petitioning MNHQ to consolidate all 'news' of their latest scroung on the taxpayer into one thread so we can hide it.

here

gregssausageroll · 16/11/2010 13:42

In all seriousness though, I hope she does have some input and gets what she wants on her day.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 16/11/2010 13:54

my main thought is "who is the lucky sod that will get to play the organ for the wedding" Blush
