Can I show you the boy we’re going to see tomorrow?!

Here he is - Barney https://www.animal-action.org.uk/?page_id=20. Look at the life he’s had 😢 I’m so excited, I’ve been thinking about getting another one for a while. Hopefully our 10yo will take to him once she’s allowed to remain Queen Bee - she’s hardly a clingy cat anyway. And hopefully he’ll take to us when we met him tomorrow!

DS6 has decided he’s going to be renamed Reggie…

Oh that is so upsetting to read. That poor cat.
I'm so glad you are rescuing him

Dogsitterwoes · 28/07/2023 18:29

Poor little guy, he's going to love his new home. Thank for adopting.

TheHorneSection · 28/07/2023 18:30

I like an older cat that potters, I’m not a fan of kittens so fingers crossed he fits in here. He can potter to his hearts content.

I’d love for him to move in and hopefully realise that he’s got somewhere nice to live and really come out of his shell.

Obviously we have no idea how our current cat will take to him but she’s not a fighter and did use to at least share the garden with a neighbours cat so I have high hopes she’d get used to him. Plus the house is big enough that they can just ignore each other if they want to.

I adopted a terribly shy cat a few years ago. He hid in an igloo when we got him home, didn't move at all for two days and for the next 10 days only came out at night to use his tray and eat.

I had homed him in my home office (to keep him separate at first from my other cat) so I carried on quietly working in there so he would get used to my presence and periodically offered treats by hand.

Gradually he started sitting with his head out of the igloo, watching me, and accepting strokes.

The day he finally slid himself out of the igloo is one I will remember for the rest of my life!

Now, he is a very cuddly, loud, attention-seeking cat with my husband and me - although if ever we have a stranger in the house, he still hides by wrapping himself up in a curtain.😃

I hope it goes well and he settles in ok, bless his background and good he's got a better future, please keep the thread updated to how he's getting on.

My cat is a stray and also wonder where he came from, been with me six years and I know he remembers his past, he flinches if move your hand too quickly so think he must have been hit. He's also terrified off ladders, he hears the window cleaners next door and goes and hides.

I wish I could adopt more.

SunnieShine · 28/07/2023 19:02

He's adorable, good luck for your future together. 😻

TheHorneSection · 28/07/2023 19:03

FrivolousTreeDuck that’s gorgeous and you just reminded me I can keep him in my office so he has company while I work from home!

Our current rescue was definitely kicked in her past, she still flinches at too-quick feet seven years on.

What a beautiful boy ❤️

Hope you are able to make him part of the family soon!

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 28/07/2023 19:32

Oh bless him, what a backstory.

Six years ago we adopted a very, very nervous two year old male who turned out to be absolutely terrified of humans, especially men. He spent three months hiding in a little nook in the living room and only came out at night to eat and use the litter tray. If you walked within 3-4 feet of him he would spit, hiss and swipe.

But he loved our resident female cat who was only about 9 months at the time. She really brought him out of his shell and they never once fought. She died two months ago and he's now eight - and honestly, you wouldn't recognise him.

He loves people, approaches strangers at the door for cuddles, plays beautifully with our other two cats (aged 3 and 12 weeks) and even tolerates our dog. He will climb up you for a cuddle and if you don't give him enough fuss he will headbutt you until you give in Grin

PurpleReindeer2 · 28/07/2023 19:33

Well done OP on adopting an older cat. He's adorable. 🥰

Florissante · 28/07/2023 19:39

He's a sweetie.
