Here he is - Barney https://www.animal-action.org.uk/?page_id=20. Look at the life he’s had 😢 I’m so excited, I’ve been thinking about getting another one for a while. Hopefully our 10yo will take to him once she’s allowed to remain Queen Bee - she’s hardly a clingy cat anyway. And hopefully he’ll take to us when we met him tomorrow!

DS6 has decided he’s going to be renamed Reggie…

He is very handsome,
I would be prepared for a little turbulence regarding your other cat, but rest assured things do settle down. It's easy to panic and think what have l done?
There are many helpful videos on Youtube about introducing another cat.
He will be lovely addition to your family.

Love Reggie! We adopted a 2 year old terrified small B&W cat. It took a good while, but once she realised we were the source of all things biscuity and cuddle related she has become the most gentle and affectionate cat I have ever known.

Love her to bits and she knows it. She's often come and 'rescued' me if I've been feeling down or ill - best therapy cat ever, just wanders over and purrs in my ear as if to say 'everything's OK, one day at a time Mrs Teapot'.

Like some upthread cats, she too must have had some pretty rough times, as still quite skittish if you move too quick or she feels remotely cornered.

I think it's brilliant to give cats a second chance at happiness. They often shine, given the time and opportunity.

Oh bless him. What a strange and bewildering life he's had so far. I'm sure, with time, he'll be a purr crazy lap cat who will soak up affection and give loads in return. He's utterly gorgeous. Best of luck!!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 28/07/2023 20:00

Such lovely stories. Honestly, cats are the best

DaisyGatz · 28/07/2023 20:20

I am over the moon for him that he has found a home! Poor little thing. What time are you meeting him? 😍

Abiharwich · 28/07/2023 20:45

He's beautiful, adopting is the way to go. Here's my Annie who was used as a kitten factory and had no affection. She's completely soppy the moment I got her, though I was ready to be patient! Enjoy your new life and home little fella x

TheHorneSection · 28/07/2023 20:52

Vampire!!!

We’re meeting him in the afternoon, if it goes well he will come home with us in a few weeks after we’re back from holiday.

Our girl cat was being bullied by one of the other cats in her rescue pen, and had spent 3 months hiding in the cave bit of a cat tower, only venturing out for food and litter tray.

It was her brother that caught our eye but we didn't want to take him and leave her so they both came home

It took a couple of months for her to realise she was ok but by god she is mistress of this house now (5 years later) she is such a little character and makes me laugh every day. It was the best thing we ever did taking both

FatCatBum · 28/07/2023 21:39

TheHorneSection · 28/07/2023 19:03

FrivolousTreeDuck that’s gorgeous and you just reminded me I can keep him in my office so he has company while I work from home!

Our current rescue was definitely kicked in her past, she still flinches at too-quick feet seven years on.

I think ours must have been hit as kittens (we got them aged two) as they also flinch if you raise a hand near them (eg running your hand through your hair or reaching for something near them) It makes me so sad, I wish I knew more about their first couple of years

Look at the gorgeous snaggle tooth 😍

Treesinmygarden · 28/07/2023 21:50

Our very elderly ex-stray boy died last year, and we adopted two rescue cats, one 5 years old and the other 18 months (we didn't intend to adopt such a young cat but just fell head over heels for her!).

I can't begin to express the joy and fun they've brought to our home!

Our old boy was upset by feet - if you put your foot up to stop him going through a door, he would attack it. He learned to trust us and we could actually pet him with our feet!! Such a transformation. We reckoned he'd been kicked in a past life. Bastard whoever did it.

I hope you and Reggie have a fabulous life together! He's beautiful x

Doyouthinktheyknow · 28/07/2023 22:00

Poor kitty, what a sad story and how lucky would he be to find a home with you😻

We got Dcat from a rescue, she was a breeding queen and used for nothing but cute kittens. She didn’t even know what tv noise was, everything frightened her and we think she had been kept separate from the home. She has softened so much in the 2 years she has been with us and we are so blessed to have her. Giving a rescue cat a 2nd chance is such a wonderful thing to do.

Floralnomad · 28/07/2023 22:07

He looks lovely , hope he is a good match for your family @TheHorneSection

Willowcat77 · 28/07/2023 22:08

Oh wow, what a beautiful cat! Bless you for choosing him, his backstory is heartbreaking. Please keep us updated, I hope it all goes well. I would expect there to be some initial conflict with your other cat, but in my experience it usually resolves itself and hopefully they'll end up as friends x

Mrsfussypants1 · 28/07/2023 22:10

I'm watching this thread I'm hoping for a happy ending for him and tomorrow goes well. 5 years in a dark room with no companionship and his previous history before that is just so sad. The little chap deserves some love and security for the rest of his day's. Good luck tomorrow I hope it goes well.

Mariposista · 28/07/2023 22:14

He is lovely - enjoy him! 🐾

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 28/07/2023 22:16

poor boy. I hope you all take to each other tomorrow

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 28/07/2023 22:28

He’s a beauty.

I adopted my girl at 10/11 (owner wasn’t sure 🙄 men) but she’s great. She potters and demands food.

Im going to be a Bengal retirement home one day. I had a Bengal so I’m experienced —tolerant— of bengals.

So do I, DD(11) is so sad about his backstory and desperate that he can come and live with us.
