Here he is - Barney https://www.animal-action.org.uk/?page_id=20. Look at the life he’s had 😢 I’m so excited, I’ve been thinking about getting another one for a while. Hopefully our 10yo will take to him once she’s allowed to remain Queen Bee - she’s hardly a clingy cat anyway. And hopefully he’ll take to us when we met him tomorrow!

DS6 has decided he’s going to be renamed Reggie…

Oh so handsome! So glad for you OP, I'm sure he'll settle in quickly and it'll be like he's always been there.

TemporaryCatSlave · 13/08/2023 17:48

Isn't he adorable. Such a sad backstory, so gret he'll now have a fab life with your family.

Very very clean underbed there. When Temporary cat arrived he shot under my bed as a glossy black cat and emerged a while later a lovely shade of fluffy pale gray. Shamed for lax housekeeping by a cat.

TheHorneSection · 13/08/2023 18:02

DD(11) actually hoovered under there in preparation 😂

Glad everything seems to be going well 🥰

felinelucky · 14/08/2023 07:20

He has the loveliest little face! Please keep the photo updates coming!

ComputerInitiateJump · 16/08/2023 17:03

Oh what a cutie. I hope he's venturing out a bit from under the bed now!

TheHorneSection · 17/08/2023 11:48

He’s a funny little thing, he’ll only really venture out when someone is around. He’s still shy so I think I may move him to a slightly smaller room as we’ve possibly overwhelmed him with the size of his new space. That’s if I can pick him up!

Current cat has been in to see him a few times, Reg is desperate to make friends with her but she’s a bit wary, and presumably fucked off we’ve done this to her. No fighting though, she’s hissed a tiny bit but generally just sits 10 feet away from him giving him death stares…

Hissing is fine, she's just letting him know that she the boss and was here first.

ComputerInitiateJump · 17/08/2023 15:36

She can't completely hate him if she's going to see him. My cat hisses at shadows 😆 Hopefully in time she'll accept him and he can enjoy having a friend. Sounds like it's going well. Our cat hid for ages as well but would give us little head bumps and start purring when we went to see her. Once she gained her confidence there was no stopping her. She owns the house now!

CatChant · 17/08/2023 21:59

He sounds lovely. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before he’s happy to come out and hobnob.

TheHorneSection · 18/08/2023 10:09

Yes, current cat is doing amazing and is starting to seek him out a bit. Reg got through my temporary barrier last night so I was woken at 3am by the two of them having words but it wasn’t nasty and there was no fighting.

He’s struggling to get poos in the litter box which is frustrating - obviously I know it’s because he’s unsettled and I’ve probably got something a bit wrong with the tray set up, but I’m trying to work out now how to let him have more access to the house without spending my life hunting for hidden poo!

He looks adorable - I hope that both cats settle in well together.

ComputerInitiateJump · 18/08/2023 14:21

Can you set up another litter tray in the area he's mostly going, op? Or could it be that his current tray is too close to his food? They prefer them well apart. Our cat had a terrible upset tummy with the stress when we first got her. She tried to get it in the tray but sometimes got caught short and had accidents. Took a couple weeks for her digestive system to settle.

TheHorneSection · 18/08/2023 15:23

Have two litter trays now, and have removed the paper I was using to line them as I suspect that might have made him feel the trays were dirtier than they were. I’m not overly bothered as I know it will improve we’ve managed to put him in not the best choice of room and now I can’t get him out - have a cut on my chin from last nights attempt to pick him up!

We’ll all get there. I suspect he’s a cat who will prefer to poo outside once he has access.

The OP says it’s OK for me to jump on here as we are collecting a rescue cat today :-) She is 5-6 yrs old and we met her a week ago. The room is ready and the girls are trying to control their excitement! I will attempt a photo. She currently hangs out on the fosterer’s desk.

Cute 😁

Toddlerteaplease · 20/08/2023 12:03

@mehday she's a beautiful girl. I was hoping my new inmate would be here by now, but hopefully soon.

Floralnomad · 20/08/2023 12:31

She looks like a cat with attitude @mehday

mehday · 20/08/2023 12:35

She came up to us when we visited, purred quietly and jumped up to sit between us! Wasn’t expecting that.
Need to dampen the excited vibes today…

Words · 21/08/2023 05:52

She's a beauty @mehday . Do you have a name for her?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 21/08/2023 09:08

She's so pretty @mehday
Lovely markings. She looks like a dribbler!

mehday · 21/08/2023 20:26

She’s 6 (ish) so we have kept her name, which is Pria.
Today she seemed to want out of the safe room but when we offered her a wander round the house this evening she wasn’t sure. She eventually chose the teenager’s bed which didn’t go down well with the tweenager! However she is still happiest in her own room for now.
I am grateful she is using the litter tray and is happy to eat.
Here comes another photo or two.

She’s lovely, congratulations! Glad she’s making it out of the room 🙂

Reg is trying desperately to make friends with our existing cat. She’ll come up into his space once a day (he’s still having some issues with the litter tray to is confined to the top floor at the moment so I’m not hunting poo around the house…) but just stare at him while he slinks closer inch by inch until she hisses him away. Poor thing! But there’s been no fighting at all and current cat seems happy enough so that’s all we can ask for at the moment.

She is lovely , once she’s settled give the tween some Dreamies to keep in their room to entice her in .
