Can I show you the boy we’re going to see tomorrow?!

Here he is - Barney https://www.animal-action.org.uk/?page_id=20. Look at the life he’s had 😢 I’m so excited, I’ve been thinking about getting another one for a while. Hopefully our 10yo will take to him once she’s allowed to remain Queen Bee - she’s hardly a clingy cat anyway. And hopefully he’ll take to us when we met him tomorrow!

DS6 has decided he’s going to be renamed Reggie…

He is gorgeous 😻and he looks pretty relaxed.

I like an older cat that potters, I’m not a fan of kittens so fingers crossed he fits in here. He can potter to his hearts content.

If he potters shouldn't he be called Harry?
Yes I went there!😸

So glad he showed you some affection, a head bump is definitely a good sign! He is so beautiful 😻

pricklythistles · 30/07/2023 17:29

How did it go??!

pricklythistles · 30/07/2023 17:30

Oops, sorry.....didn't read far enough back 🤦🏼‍♀️

itsmylife7 · 30/07/2023 23:12

Extremely handsome boy OP.

TheHorneSection · 09/08/2023 21:32

Just a few days to go… I have a new cat bed and a selection of boxes if he wants to hide, a new litter tray, food he likes, some blankets that don’t smell of the old cat and some blankets that do… What have I forgotten?

Maybe some interactive toys to help with bonding? They can't resist bird on fishing rod type toys and it really breaks the ice with a new cat. Good luck, please update with photos when he moves in!

isitaline97 · 09/08/2023 23:17

I was going to suggest the same some toys, maybe a catnip toy? Perhaps a scratch post if you have room? Good luck OP and let us know how you get on 😻

Mrsfussypants1 · 10/08/2023 06:19

He's definitely going to need his own new scratch post, vertical and perhaps a horizontal cardboard one. One that he can keep his claws in ship and mark with his own scent.

Get a Feliway friends plug in - it’s made a real difference to introducing our new rescue to our feisty 6 year old rescue!

Ian is 10 years old and has a long term health condition (same one as his brother) and came home 6 weeks ago. Ian says “Hi, I’m causing absolute chaos in my new home” and Flynn says “I’m not sure why they got me a brother but I’m getting used to it!”

Wishing the gorgeous Barney a happy new home!

You know I don't particularly like cats, I'm a dog person.
I'm allergic to cats and I'm not a fan of them in general.
But your post has turned me ever so slightly.
Reggie is gorgeous and an absolute sausage.
Such a shame about his past but he's on to a very bright future. Please update when he's home and forever!

TheHorneSection · 10/08/2023 08:37

Scratch post and board, thanks, I knew I’d forget something obvious!

DC are madly counting down the hours…

I'm so invested in this! Keep us updated. I'm so happy he's coming home with you.

We have a lovely, grumpy, beautiful rescue who has spent his life with us looking mildly inconvenienced when we stroke/fuss him. In the last year he has been joined by a kitten and it has really made him come out of his shell and join in the family more. He's not madly fussed about the kitten but for some reason now enjoys affection from us on a different level. We've all settled down so happily together. Hope your two cats bond in some way (ours aren't bonded in an obvious way but I do feel life is improved for each by having the other around).

I can't wait to read how he's getting on, op. It sounds like you're set up well. Feliway is a good call.

Are you planning on letting him out eventually? We kept ours indoors for about a month then went out into the back garden with her when she was desperately hungry so she came back inside tempted by bits of chicken. We kept that routine up for about another month. She's a happy outdoor cat now and loves to potter around having the odd vocal spat with the cat next door. She came from a house with no garden just a small backyard and a dual carriageway out front. She adores our little garden with plants to sniff and birds to watch. Luckily she's too old to bother trying to catch them.

So excited for you!

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 10/08/2023 12:46

thank you for the update OP. Hanging around for pictures <drums fingers>

We have a courtyard garden actually, and as he has a twisted foot we’re not sure he’ll ever be able to climb out properly. I’ll board up the one obvious bit he could crawl out of. I bought a cat lead 😂 and if he lets me put it on then when I feel he’s settled in the house I’ll put it on him and tie an end to the patio table so he can get used to the outside for short periods.

Coming Sunday morning so we’re all getting very excited!

OP posts:
TheHorneSection · 10/08/2023 12:50

But yes, as our other cat has free access to outside and it’s no a microchip cat flap we’re hoping within 6-8 weeks we can get him acclimatised so that he goes outside when he wants and we can possibly get rid of the litter tray - though that is all play by ear, obviously.

TheHorneSection · 13/08/2023 15:11

He’s been here two hours now and I’m in love!!

He has hidden himself under DDs bed, no surprise, but when I’ve crawled down he has taken some cat treats I’ve out in front of him and when I tried to touch him, he
butted straight in for some lovely head rubs. I think he’s going to be an attention monster when he finds his feet.

Even better, our cat was in the house when he was dropped off and she came up to the cage and had a wary sniff but no hissing, and didn’t even have her hackles up! She’s avoiding the floor he is on but other than that is acting normally, though asking for a little more attention than usual, unsurprisingly. Looks good!

Your underbed is lovely and clean - there's no way a cat would venture under any of ours!
Congrats on Reggie, I hope he settles in well.
