Here he is - Barney https://www.animal-action.org.uk/?page_id=20. Look at the life he’s had 😢 I’m so excited, I’ve been thinking about getting another one for a while. Hopefully our 10yo will take to him once she’s allowed to remain Queen Bee - she’s hardly a clingy cat anyway. And hopefully he’ll take to us when we met him tomorrow!

DS6 has decided he’s going to be renamed Reggie…

I'm watching this thread I'm hoping for a happy ending for him and tomorrow goes well. 5 years in a dark room with no companionship and his previous history before that is just so sad. The little chap deserves some love and security for the rest of his day's. Good luck tomorrow I hope it goes well.

Years ago my parents ended up adopting a cat from a rescue they really didn’t mean to, but she was old, deaf and mostly toothless and they just felt too awful about her being left there for the rest of her life. She was a mostly miserable sod, that cat, but after a year she finally stopped living in the utility room and ventured out around the house. She wasn’t what you’d call a good pet, but at least she had a much better life than she would have done in a rescue, no matter how nice the rescue.

Oh what a sweet boy. My eyes welled up when I read that he loves the sun after spending so long in a dark room 😢. Our old girl (who we adopted) is a right old grumpy guts if there's no sun. She sits by her heat pad with big sad eyes until someone turns it on.

I hope it goes well tomorrow. Please keep us updated.

DH is not a cat fan, he and our current cat tolerate each other. But even he looked aghast at the thought this poor boy had been alone in a dark room. Which is how I won him over to a second cat he doesn’t entirely want… (I’d like to note that DH looks after our current cat fine, and I hold out a sneaky hope that this new cat will adopt DH and soften him up to cats)

Like Mog, if it’s raining outside his cat flap our adopted moggie will beg to be let out of the front door in case it’s sunny there, then look disgusted

our boy also flinches at raised hands. I don’t know much about cats so had assumed it was natural behaviour rather than linked to his early life as a stray Sad

What a handsome boy, full of character! Poor darling though for what he has been through.

Re his foot, I adopted a much younger cat with a similar issue. The vet thought either an accident, someone pulling on her leg during birth, or that she was born that way. I decided to try surgery, but it didn't result in a better outcome.

Reggie looks like he has landed on his paws with your family ! More cat tax is due as he settles in Grin

Saverage · 29/07/2023 07:06

What a sad story, he looks beautiful. I hope all goes well when you meet him.

I've got to say though, when I met my very shy rescue at Battersea, she wouldn't let me touch her, and hung her head and wouldn't look at me. It wasn't the most promising of starts. I took her anyway and she was soon the most loving and affectionate of cats (after a few days of hiding then sniffing my hand and huffing in disgust!).

Current rescue being spoiled this morning, with no idea what might be coming her way…

What a lovely outcome - plus story of previous rescue is so sweet! My adopted cat is the most loving, cuddly beast - I have no idea how they forget or forgive previous treatment but they do! X

TheHorneSection · 29/07/2023 15:11

So the kids fell head over heels in love, and he certainly seemed to like us too. He got overwhelmed quite quickly but I can definitely see that given a few weeks he’s going to be the kind of cat that demands attention!

Oh what an absolute darling. My last and much missed boy was a tabby. I hope he brings you years of joy. 🐈‍⬛

HarrietJet · 29/07/2023 15:17

Aw, the third photo. He loves you!

TheHorneSection · 29/07/2023 15:18

I know! Well, they do say that cats choose you, and he got in quite a few headbutts and kicks so we're all feeling chuffed

Yep, I get the feeling he may be ruling the house in a few weeks time…

Poor little sod being locked away for all those years.

If you do proper slow intros it should be ok, it will take a few weeks though esp with a calico girl.

awwwwww i rescued mine as well. Well done for doing that

ComputerInitiateJump · 29/07/2023 16:19

Aww it looks like he loves a fuss. Our adopted girl was the same when we got her. She loved attention to a point but then needed time to herself and would retreat behind a chair in the lounge so we made a cosy bed for her there. A few years on and she's an affectionate little soul and likes to be close to one of her humans at all times. She'll sit in the hall at the bottom of the stairs and yowl until someone gives her attention!
