Perhaps Girlcat is thinking her brother suddenly vanished and is worried you might too if she lets you out of her sight, Allergic.
Hopefully with lots of attention and reassurance she will adjust.
Love!y to see Ollie and Paws sleeping together.
Wish me luck tonight because instead of shutting the dog in downstairs, I'm going to try having her upstairs with the cats. Dd2 has been having her in her room while she's been staying but is away for a couple of nights and won't be able to have her in her room when she has her baby anyway so I thought I'd try it. Matt might grumble but will take himself off to another room but Socks is likely to be most put out.

Hi Allergic.
After our last two cats died, we adopted the ones we have now. We're got them eight weeks after the second one died.
I'm not going to lie, it was difficult at first, but I felt so sorry for Emerald and Linney. They'd been on the CPL website for ages. Nobody wanted them and it broke our hearts.

I can't imagine life without them now.

Allergictoironing · 12/02/2023 09:06

Oh definitely getting another cat, it's just going to be difficult finding the right one. When I got mine originally, though I had a list of "wants" only one of those was really "needs". Now I have a longer list of non-negotiable needs. It HAS to be indoor only, as Girlcat is. It HAS to be able to live with other cats (rarer than you think looking at rescue sites). It HAS to be of a reasonable age for Girlcat e.g. no kittens or very young adults due to mis-matched energy levels. The one need from my pov is a half decent expected life e.g. nothing over about 15 or with chronic conditions - I couldn't face losing another one very soon!

My likes/dislikes are well down the list; whatever comes home will be deeply loved and cared for by me.

I'm currently fostering a little girl kitten who absolutely loves other cats. This is her in the foreground with Spark in the background. She's an absolute sweetheart but can't be picked up and is slowly learning that people mean pets and food.

Absolutely understand all your points, Allergic.
Hopefully a suitable cat will become available soon.

Allergictoironing · 12/02/2023 10:11

Long stop trying to tempt me with your foster! I really don't see a kitten leaving my poor little 8yo comparatively sedate Girlcat in peace 😜. Plus I don't think I could cope with the chaos of a kitten myself!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 12/02/2023 11:06

She does look absolutely lovely though 🤣.

I can resist everything except temptation...

She IS adorable isn't she? If she was a bit older, say over a year old, I'd definitely consider her.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 12/02/2023 11:30

You're quite right. But I'm still suppressing my inner Mrs Doyle 🤣.

Unfortunately I'm based in Dublin so she's out of reach! Trying to find a home for her is tricky, I've had one adopter get cold feet already. She's very good with my older cats and is great at amusing herself. She carries her toys up the stairs, drops them and chases them down stairs and repeats.

Supersimkin2 · 12/02/2023 14:23

She’s beautiful.

Allergictoironing · 12/02/2023 15:08

Argh! You give with one hand & take away with the other - good with older cats, check. Amuses herself, check. Dublin - too far from Kent even for the perfect cat!

Bet you could pop her in a pannier on your next Great Britain cycling marathon? 😁

I've just realised that we missed Karl & Lenny's 5th birthday on the 2nd Feb. Don't think they noticed though. 🙀.

This is what they looked like when we first got them.

So CUTE!!! 😍

Still not getting a kitten though.

Just got a call from Rolvenden Cat Rescue, where mine came from, in reply to a voicemail I left them earlier today. She's not positive, but she thinks they have at least a couple of appropriately aged & temperament indoor cats! She's going to check the full list tomorrow & get back to me, and if they do then I'll be going down to be interviewed by the cats soon. She knows I have the patience to let a shyer cat take it's own time to settle in, which is a big plus point in my favour with her.

I will NOT get too excited, but poor Girlcat has been so very bored and clingy today, still not wanting to play, but at least she's eating a little more now.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 12/02/2023 18:29

Ooh - good luck with that Allergic. Hope all goes well. 👍
I think I've been here too long 🤣. I just found the thread I posted when I first got them.

Ahh. The Dear Kitten video on that thread is amazing!

YesItsMeIDontCare · 12/02/2023 18:51

Wow.

TIL that Basil & Sybil are not named after the Fawltys

😱

Supersimkin2 · 12/02/2023 19:55

B&S have always had acute adorability.

Sweetpea1532 · 12/02/2023 21:44

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats
Awww, look at TC trying to be welcoming to Lenny/Karl...he's been trying to be friends since Day 1Grin

Rebellious23 · 12/02/2023 22:08

Ollie is asleep in his teepee, paws is asleep on my legs in bed Grin

TheLongRider · 12/02/2023 22:13

Best of luck Allergic with your meet and greet, the cats sound like a great option.

TheShellBeach · 12/02/2023 23:56

Oh wow, Allergic.
I hope that works out for you and Girlcat.

coastergirl · 13/02/2023 19:40

I think this is the most catty thing I've ever seen Walter do. My 7yo is playing chess with my best friend and Walt is "helping". Trying to bat the pieces off the board. I'm helpfully just watching and laughing.
