I love dogs. I have two. Currently have chihuahuas but I’ve had a jack Russel in the past.

I’ve been around plenty of dogs. I used to work in a rescue kennel, and after all this, there are still two breeds im really not keen on

Yorkshire terriers. I find they have a very pungent smell. Every one I’ve met have the same sort of smell and it’s very off putting.

English bull terriers. It’s the head. I really don’t like the head!

I love staffies, rotties, dobermans and a lot of other breeds, but those two really do bother me. I’m also not particularly keen on westies either but I think that’s because my MIL had two and they were horrible little shits.

Any dogs that humans have messed up with fucked up breeding! The ones that struggle to breath come to mind. No need for it at all. I’m not a fan of small, yappy little feckers either, lol

BenCoopersSupportWren · 16/04/2023 17:12

Anything brachycephalic. I just can’t find a squashed-in face attractive, especially knowing so many of them have breathing difficulties.

And YY to bull terriers’ heads, they’re an odd shape and out of proportion to the rest of the body. Similarly I couldn’t have a Bedlington terrier, it’s like their head curves the wrong way somehow.

I’m not particularly keen on anything too floofy / toy-like (honourable exception for Papillons, which remind me of scaled down Shelties).

I love a gundog, especially retrievers and spaniels; working dogs like collies, Belgian shepherds (love long-haired GSDs but not the sad slopey-backed overbred monstrosities), keeshonds; sighthounds; Beagles; most terriers; mongrels shaped similar to any of the above. Dog-shaped dogs 😄

Soubriquet · 16/04/2023 17:18

Ah bedlingtons, yeah they have a strange head shape too.

I do like pugs and others like it, but I do agree they have been bred and bred to have a flatter face and it’s not fair on the dog, nor is it attractive.

A properly bred brachycepalic dog, is quite sweet

Controversially I don’t particularly like Labrador’s.

greedy feckers, moulting, dog breath and prone to so many medical issues

With you on that, often so bullish too

Floralnomad · 16/04/2023 17:23

Huskies and husky types
Pugs and anything else with bulgy eyes .

Soubriquet · 16/04/2023 17:23

Leonbergers · 16/04/2023 17:23

Im going to offend most of MN but I really dislike anything poodle/doodle, Bullies/ most Bull breeds and anything brachycephalic.
Also not keen on spaniels.

Hence I have owned the same two breeds all of my life as I’m so fussy!

FastFood · 16/04/2023 17:26

I absolutely love english bull terriers haha.

I love all dogs but in terms of how they look, I'm really not keen of squashed faces, such as boxers, frenchies, pugs etc...
Also not a fan of curly hair in general, so poodle, poodle cross etc... Although I admit that they're really cute.

I also have a weird thing with cocker spaniels, their pace makes me feel nervous. Beautiful dogs though!

I love everything sighthounds, terriers, sheep dogs, lap dog, spitz...
All my dogs had in common that they had a long nose and big upright ears.

This said, I love all dogs, there's not a breed that I would dismiss for cuddles, if a pug jumps on my lap or a cockapoo runs towards me for a hug, my heart would melt instantly.

magicstar1 · 16/04/2023 17:28

Chihuahuas…. They so small and quivery.
All those doodle / poodle crosses.
Teachp Yorkies etc.
I like big, solid dogs.

Whyjustwhy123 · 16/04/2023 17:28

I love dogs but also don’t like the following (sorry!!!)

  • Labs - borrrriiiinnnng
  • squished face dogs that can’t breath
  • Dashounds - annoying and health problems due to breading

I worry about the number of breeds that are ‘in fashion’ and keep the puppy farm business going. I follow lots of rescues and all of them are saying they are bursting at the seams with lots of requests for help. I guess we all knew it was coming with lockdown purchases.

Whyjustwhy123 · 16/04/2023 17:29

Saying all that, I would still fall over myself giving the above dogs a cuddle as actual I love them all 🤣

BotterMon · 16/04/2023 17:29

Any designer breed unless the owner states it's a cross between XYZ rather than ridiculous breed name. Anything brachycephalic. Anything smaller than a large spaniel isn't a proper dog. Anything overbred such as GSD's with back legs that don't belong to the front. Any dog that's yappy. And all those pitbull like dogs including staffies of which I know a few who are lovely but unfortunately tend to attract the type of owner who I don't mix with.

In short I like working dogs and the larger breeds.

mosiacmaker · 16/04/2023 17:31

I think frenchies and pugs are so sad and judge people who have them. I find poodles to be soulless and like cats 😂

Spaniels all the way!

Carsarelife · 16/04/2023 17:32

Pitbull/Staffs/American type scary dogs
Greyhounds

IfYouLikePinaCoIadas · 16/04/2023 17:33

Bully breeds. Alsations. Dobermans. Huskies.

Revolting creatures. I detest them and I'm a dog lover. I also dislike spaniels.

TroysMammy · 16/04/2023 17:33

I don't like squashed faced dogs
Dribbly dogs
Bull breeds
Yappy toy dogs
I love scruffy dogs and dogs with whiskers.

BelindaMelinda · 16/04/2023 17:37

I'm really not keen on white fluffy dogs like Westies and Bichons for a totally shallow reason.

It's the bit under their eyes - never white past puppyhood but always a stained browny colour that makes me think of drippy eyes and eye gunk. It makes me feel a bit queasy up close.

notanothershitday · 16/04/2023 17:40

I absolutely love English bull terriers and have two, there the most human loving dog that I've ever known, don't like little yapping breeds

Meadowfly · 16/04/2023 17:40

Anything that can’t breathe, poor thinks, wicked to breed them.
Anything with pointy up ears / originally breed for any guarding or rounding up purposes. Staffies and their ilk, German shepherds, Rottweilers etc. all dogs that are great at at what they do but not suitable as family pets. It’s generally the owners that I disprove of though!

Vivalaive · 16/04/2023 17:40

XL bully’s. Vile.

IngGenius · 16/04/2023 17:41

Having worked with spaniels and labs as scent detection dogs I will always love them and can not see how other people do not Smile @Bluebellwood129 Calling them revolting is bit much I am sure that are not partial to you but they would be better mannered than to call you revolting. Many a revolting detection dog has made you safe on every flight you take.

Loads of dogs I would never have top of my list would be
greyhounds and chihuahua.

Or any dog that does not want to do things.

I do not want any dog that due to health issues can not be active or just cant be arsed to do things.

Good job there are so many different types of dogs to keep us all happy. Dogs are awesome in so many ways

Lilypickles1 · 16/04/2023 17:42

Can’t bare frenchies, doodles, cockapoo, no thanks. Not keen on xl bullies either but I don’t like those dogs, mainly due to the owners. ( not judgey at all )
However would still stroke them and love them 😂
I just like normal dogs, gsd, rottie, labs, spaniels, sight hounds etc

TwilightSkies · 16/04/2023 17:51

Akitas. Horrible!
Also not fussed on labs, the smell.
