I love dogs. I have two. Currently have chihuahuas but I’ve had a jack Russel in the past.

I’ve been around plenty of dogs. I used to work in a rescue kennel, and after all this, there are still two breeds im really not keen on

Yorkshire terriers. I find they have a very pungent smell. Every one I’ve met have the same sort of smell and it’s very off putting.

English bull terriers. It’s the head. I really don’t like the head!

I love staffies, rotties, dobermans and a lot of other breeds, but those two really do bother me. I’m also not particularly keen on westies either but I think that’s because my MIL had two and they were horrible little shits.

No one has said they hate my favourite dog breed yet. I know they can divide opinions though😅

I personally am not keen on flat faced dogs as I think they are cruel. I really dislike pugs, the breathing noise and the smell….

Anything small and yappy or huge and aggressive (XL bullies). Doodles and labs, although cute, are a bit too “basic”, for lack of a better word.

I tend to like more traditional dogs like spaniels, pointers, setters, hounds etc rather than designer breeds.

lightinthebox · 16/04/2023 19:50

Small and yappy dogs. Don't particularly like spaniels as they're too energetic, but that's mostly because I'm sick of hearing owners complaining about how their dogs don't stop and they're exhausted. They're spaniels! Same with cockerpoos with owners not researching breeds.

I like pointy dogs and hounds, working versions of a breed and dogs bred for an actual purpose rather than 'cute and fluffy'.

Doberman's look scary.
Shnauzers always look dirty and they're barky and smelly.
Spaniels are always a bit intense for me.

My aunt used to have a dobie called Zoe and she was a total lap dog. Honestly, she thought she was the size of a chi. You would get smushed

I'm more of a big dog kinda girl but I do love a border terrorist terrier.

Own spaniel, love them even though they're mud magnets and daft as brushes. They take a lot of work but are the most loving breed if you know what you're doing.

Not so fond of the XL bully types. They're definitely scary looking. Ditto cane corso.

hattie43 · 16/04/2023 19:53

I love all bull breeds in fact they are all I'll ever own .

I dislike all Spaniels and foo foo dogs like poms , bichons etc . In 50 yrs of owning dogs I've only ever been bitten by a chihuahua so not keen on them .

notanothershitday · 16/04/2023 17:40

I absolutely love English bull terriers and have two, there the most human loving dog that I've ever known, don't like little yapping breeds

My mum had one and she was gorgeous such a character

Felixss · 16/04/2023 19:55

Dogs that jump up without permission 😡. I went to a rescue one time ,(as part of my job) and a dog was politely waiting for me to give permission. Lovely dog I would have took him home with me but dcat would hate that 🤣.

Blogswife · 16/04/2023 19:58

I love most dogs - except little yappy things like chihuahuas- I really can’t love them as they look like rodents to me !

GlassBunion · 16/04/2023 20:06

West Highland Terriers.
Incredibly yappy, same with Yorkies.
Yap, yap, yap , yap, yap.

Cockyshitpoos or any variants. Also yappy and very reactive and their owners just pick them up when they see anything 'nasty' like a slightly bigger dog which just perpetuates these dogs' feeling of self importance.

Any brachycephalic breeds. Why, just why???

evilharpy · 16/04/2023 20:07

There are loads I'm not a fan of. Some because I've known ones that have put me off the entire breed.

Staffies and similar (next door have one that's a total psycho - completely normal, nice people, no idea how they have ended up with a dog like this)
Anything flat faced so pugs, Frenchies etc
EBTs
XL bully types
Labs because I've only ever known stinky ones and the shedding is just too much - although I do like their personalities
Cavalier King Charles spaniels - have known several, all insufferable, poorly trained nightmares
Beagles
The vast majority of tiny, pointless dogs like chihuahuas, bichons, shitzus, anything that fits in a handbag or needs a pram
Any dog that jumps at me despite being told not to - usually an owner problem, not a dog problem

I love greyhounds, whippets, lurchers, larger spaniels, poodles (even toy poodles, they are so clever and have lovely temperaments), Irish wolfhounds, GSDs, red/Irish setters, Old English sheepdogs, St Bernards, Newfoundlands and any other massive mountain type dogs (although a friend has a beautiful St Bernard and the shedding is unreal, would drive me mad).

3ormoredogs · 16/04/2023 20:08

@Giggorata I forgot about the tail thing.
I really don’t get why people want to breed or own dogs where there’s an arse staring you right in the face (frenchies/bulldogs/pugs I’m looking at you!)
It’s even worse when they have no tail at all.

Cover up with a tail please…bushier the better 😄

GraysPapaya · 16/04/2023 20:10

Not quite understanding the poster who said labs were revolting creatures but she’s a dog lover?!
my labs don’t smell, they’re not bullish or boring either! I often get people quite taken with them. Morally they’ve no issue (not being bred to break their own backs/brain/respiratory system!).
Taste in dogs is wide and varied, like many things. I couldn’t muster up ‘hate’ for an entire breed.

Aworldofmyown · 16/04/2023 20:11

I was never a fan of English bull terriers, until I looked after one (dog walker). Totally fell for him, fab dogs with so much 'human' personality.

I love a lab

They seem really doggy in a wholesome way

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 16/04/2023 20:14

Chihuahuas…. They so small and quivery

I used to think that, but then we fostered one and it was basically a shrunken Rottweiler. That dog feared nothing and nobody. I still wouldn't get one myself, but I do get the appeal more now - they do have a massive character.

From our fostering experience, there are certain breeds that I actually love, but wouldn't choose to own: Springers - love them but I don't have the energy to tire one out (is it even possible?), JRTs = escape artists, border collies - I know they can be the most amazing dogs, but some also seem to be really grumpy, Italian greyhounds and daschunds - too prone to injury so I was constantly paranoid.

I don't like anything in the Husky line, corgis or Westies.

Thatladdo · 16/04/2023 20:16

Dogs bred for fashion instead of function - Pugs, im looking at you for example.

Small dogs who havent learned how to behave and want to fight everything and basicaly act like a tyranosaurus in a bad mood.

Dogs in clothes - Not functionaly like a hound wearing a jacket for heat but if its for appearance it makes the dog and owner look quite tragic and wanting.

beaniebutter · 16/04/2023 20:32

I have a frenchie (DH got him pre “us”) and oh my god the constant snoring….I love the pooch now, but please nobody get a short nosed dog unless you love hearing the sound of a pneumatic drill as daily background noise 24/7.

Cant even take them for long walks like a ‘proper’ dog as they pant and need to be carried home.

Really sad that people breed and buy these types of dogs, they should be banned really. 😟

Some breeds have a high tail for function. Basset Hounds have raised tails with white tips because they are meant to be a flag and easy to locate when hunting.

RockSocks · 16/04/2023 20:34

Anything brachycephalic

Anything doodled especially when it's introduced with a stupidly long name of the multiple breeds all mashed up together
So far I have never met a well trained doodle.

Anything mixed on purpose but for stupid reasons
Some I have seen recently
English bulldog x border collie
The very small bulldog was the mother, I am guessing they were trying for fluffy bulldog lookalikes

Mexican hairless x poodle this was last year and very local I am guessing they wanted patchy curly coats

Otherwise it's specific dogs not the breed.
A black flat coat retriever, a Terrier, a boxer and black lab I avoid these 4 at all costs three are aggressive one has no recall and causes alot of problems.

PickleOfAConundrum · 16/04/2023 20:43

I love dogs in general but honestly am petrified of Pitbulls and Rottweilers. I know they are not all aggressive and I've seen many where I live that haven't been any threat at all but I just think how strong their jaws are should I ever get attacked doesn't bear thinking about!

ThePoetsWife · 16/04/2023 20:43

Breeds that have an upright tail - hate seeing their arseholes. Teeny tiny dogs - I would worry about hurting them by accident.

Love labs but won't have one as they really do stink the older they get.

Btw are you sure that the bedlington head is curved? Isn't it the way the fur has been groomed?

DiscoBeat · 16/04/2023 21:00

Anything with an extreme that is detrimental to them - flat faces like bulldogs, pugs etc. or dachshunds with very short legs, German shepherds with very sloped backs (not sure why some of them have it and some don't) and hairless dogs. Don't mess about with nature!

LeefPeeper · 16/04/2023 21:09

Anything with curly hair

wheresmymojo · 16/04/2023 21:37

I also like dog-shaped dogs.

And dog-sized dogs.

Don't like:

  • anything flat faced
  • rats on leads (sorry to the small dog lovers!)
  • anything overbred...I adore GSDs but wouldn't want one with the weird sloped back
  • anything skinny enough to feel bones when you cuddle (e.g. greyhounds)
  • any curly haired poodle/doodle/etc
  • love huskies but the ones with pale blue eyes creep me out 👀
  • anything that has its body parts cropped, clipped or whatever (not the dogs fault obviously)
  • I grew up with a Staffy and think they're lovely characters but personally prefer less hard muscle (same for mastiffs, dobermanns, boxers, etc)
wheresmymojo · 16/04/2023 21:39

And anything that drools a lot...it makes me retch
