I love dogs. I have two. Currently have chihuahuas but I’ve had a jack Russel in the past.

I’ve been around plenty of dogs. I used to work in a rescue kennel, and after all this, there are still two breeds im really not keen on

Yorkshire terriers. I find they have a very pungent smell. Every one I’ve met have the same sort of smell and it’s very off putting.

English bull terriers. It’s the head. I really don’t like the head!

I love staffies, rotties, dobermans and a lot of other breeds, but those two really do bother me. I’m also not particularly keen on westies either but I think that’s because my MIL had two and they were horrible little shits.

I thought I was a gundog person... had spaniels and labs...recently ended up with a whippet and lurcher and now don't think I would have anything else 🤣.... although I adored my whippet, being chilled, compact , clean and not smelling , gave a home to my lurcher who looks exactly like a whippet and he is a gangly lump of anxious filthy stinkiness 🙄.. he is the most loving lump ever though.

TrashyPanda · 16/04/2023 18:29

Rottweilers - their massive jaws scare me.

old English Sheepdogs, because I knew this one that was really creepy. She would follow you around (this was in the 70s, where it was t u usual to see dogs ambling around by themselves) but she kept a distance of about ten feet. Every time you turned around, she was standing stockstill. Never saw her actually mov8ng, but she was always behind us!

SirChenjins · 16/04/2023 18:29

GSD, husky type dogs, boxers, collies or XL bully’s - not because they are horrible dogs as such, just that they are dogs who are at odds with an urban lifestyle and are usually bored, under stimulated and under exercised so become a bit loop de loop.

brachycephalic dogs shouldn’t be allowed - it’s so cruel.

Betty65 · 16/04/2023 18:30

I adore Boxers…such amazing personalities, loyal, loving, faithful fun and comical.
Over the past 38 years we’ve been privileged to have 4 as part of our family.
We lost our last darling girl at age 13 just 6 weeks ago.

Buildingthefuture · 16/04/2023 18:31

I love dogs. All dogs. I’m also a registered assessor for when people want to rehome dogs and the rescue wants an assessment of the dog before they take it on. I’ve assessed hundreds of dogs and most of them frankly have just had shit owners…99% of the time it’s not the dog, it’s the owner.
But recently, I’ve been asked to assess a few XL bullies. And honestly? I’m not scared of dogs and never have been (despite being bitten as a child) but those dogs have really scared me. That is not a breed I would take on…..

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 16/04/2023 18:32

I don’t like most terriers, annoying, noisy, stubborn. Borders are the exception.

Frenchies, I just don’t think they are ethical.

Labs are great dogs but not for me, just a bit dull.

Dachshund, snappy little fuckers and again, issues around how ethical the breeding is in many cases

Poodle crosses… just get a poodle

MajesticWhine · 16/04/2023 18:34

I don't like :
Staffies
Boxers
Weimaraner
German shepherd

Amused to see people not liking cockapoos. I have one, she is a bit aesthetically challenged but she has a nice personality (sometimes)

Mrsorganmorgan · 16/04/2023 18:36

I had a Brusells Griffon rough haired, he was so very lovely. He used to come when called, an never gave us a moments worry. I love all kinds of dogs!

TeddyTrucks · 16/04/2023 18:38

Definitely with Phoebe Buffay on the "yippetty piece of crap" attitude to little dogs. They always seem to have personality disorders, and I'd be frightened of treading on them.

Can't be doing with "designer" breeds either - if you're so hung up on shedding, then don't get a dog in the first place. If you must have a pet, I hear fish produce no hair whatsoever.

Staffies can be very sweet but need proper training - there's a puppy at the park I go to who is practically feral.

Lastly Salukis, who in my experience generally have a bad attitude towards most other breeds.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 16/04/2023 18:39

My first thoughts were Jack Russell and Chihuahuas .

GoodnightJude1 · 16/04/2023 18:43

Well my Lab is beautiful. He doesn’t stink, he isn’t greedy at all and on the dark days when I don’t even want to get out of bed he gives me a soppy look and we’re off out on our adventures.
My DS who has been struggling a bit lately is so much happier since having our Lab, they are truly best mates. So no, Labs aren’t revolting.

There are some breeds I’m not keen on the look of but if they’re loved and well looked after and they make someone’s day brighter, then who am I to say?

MarshaBradyo · 16/04/2023 18:44

The wide faced muscle ones

Bully, Staffie, Rottweilers, Cane Corso, Dobermans

Not keen on flat faced ones either

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 16/04/2023 18:45

Jack Russells
French Bulldogs
XL bullies
English Bull Terriers
Bull Lurchers/lurchers in general

Scottishskifun · 16/04/2023 18:45

I don't like any squash faced breeds pugs, French bulldog etc
Daschunds, Yorkshire terriers or chihuahuas.
Not keen on XL bullys or French mastiffs either.

But I love sighthounds, greyhounds lurchers salukis etc which most people don't like

BoxerMam · 16/04/2023 18:47

I don't like border collies. Or whippets / salukis/ greyhounds. Or labs. Or tiny dogs either.

Corgiowner · 16/04/2023 18:51

Anything small and yappy. Anything with a squashed face that pants constantly, snuffles, dribbles or snores.
There are plenty of dogs I wouldn't own because they don't suit my lifestyle yes Im looking at all those dogs from strong working lines that are now struggling to live as normal pets and whose owners are also struggling and therefore I couldn't offer them a good home but that doesn't mean I dislike the breed.

Talapia · 16/04/2023 18:55

Not keen on the look of boxers. Don't really get the MM obsession with greyhounds. XL bullies are a complete no, how the government haven't acted on banning this latest craze is beyond me !

Feel sorry for breeds who have been bred to be flat faced or small skulled.

I love but wouldn't own, well bred and brought up GSDs and border collies.

I think the best dog on the world is a miniature poodle.

Soubriquet · 16/04/2023 18:55

Everyone has their preferences Grin

MotherOfGreyhounds · 16/04/2023 18:55

Bulldogs, American bullies (any of the super muscly dogs really, none of them appeal to me and some of them are quite scary), Cane Corso, and chow chows. Also not a mad fan of Alsatians I must admit, and most of the ones I've known have been utter nutters.

That said, any dog I meet I would give the benefit of the doubt to and I'll always fuss a friendly dog no matter what the breed. I just personally can't see the appeal of the above as pets.

Favouritefruits · 16/04/2023 19:01

Japanese Akita my dog disliked them so I do too, not sure why just barked at that particular breed. I don’t like French bull dogs either, I know they are popular but I just can’t get on board with them I’m a hound lover, I love a nice pointy face and a waggy tail but each to their own.

CoffeeWithCheese · 16/04/2023 19:03

Untrained doodle type things... untrained things with no noses... untrained labradors and spaniels.

Fucking millions of the above around here - especially post lockdown - think people think spaniels and labradors are self-training creatures.

Trevor the fucking terrier who was the only dog I have ever encountered who was SO uncontrollable you would hear his owner entering the park (bellowing threats and commands at poor Trev) and you could just see everyone else leaving the same second.

LlamasUnited · 16/04/2023 19:04

Those ones that kill children and frighten my dc. Staffies, Rottweilers, Cane corsos, xL bullies etc. Can’t stand them. Wish they were illegal.

Actually, I'm with you on the miniature poodle. I had one and he had a lovely temperament. I also had a poodle cross growing up (back when they were still mutts)

I like almost any dog I meet, but there are only a few I would really enjoy living with. Small enough to pick up, coat either soft or wiry, but not greasy like a pug or chihuahua. And with a proper nose, not a snuffly thing that can't breathe.

DogInATent · 16/04/2023 19:08

Chihuahuas, there's a pair of them that are regulars where we walk and they often think it's clever to have a yappy goad at our dog (Staffy).

Westies, the only dog to have ever had a proper go at ours. Full-on teeth round the leg having a go. Had to kick it off because even the owner was scared of it when it saw red.

Cockerpoos and other -poo/fashion mongrels. Unpredictable which temperament they'll get. Usually owned by people that don't like dogs.

Psqueak87 · 16/04/2023 19:13

I live in Canada now and I have two pitbull x’s. One is crossed with a pug (lol) and one is crossed with a Spanish mastiff. Both are rescues and both absolute snuggle bugs. I feel like the pit ban in the UK causes a lot of fear mongering. Yes it’s unfortunate that people have been attacked, but it’s only a certain type of person who will own a banned breed, therefore you don’t get the average good dog owner raising them.
