I love dogs. I have two. Currently have chihuahuas but I’ve had a jack Russel in the past.

I’ve been around plenty of dogs. I used to work in a rescue kennel, and after all this, there are still two breeds im really not keen on

Yorkshire terriers. I find they have a very pungent smell. Every one I’ve met have the same sort of smell and it’s very off putting.

English bull terriers. It’s the head. I really don’t like the head!

I love staffies, rotties, dobermans and a lot of other breeds, but those two really do bother me. I’m also not particularly keen on westies either but I think that’s because my MIL had two and they were horrible little shits.

It would be easier to say I only like border collies.

Beautiful, intelligent, active, fit and friendly.

The rest, meh

shutthewindownow · 20/04/2023 21:12

Greyhounds and lurchers are the best dogs 🐶
Frenchies and pugs or bulldogs no no shouldn't be allowed to be bred

ThisGirlCantAlways · 20/04/2023 21:33

We have a Dalmatian, a really handsome boy, lovely temperament, however he is big boy and I can see how people would find him intimidating.

Also had 3 staffs and they were the easiest to train dogs, a real pleasure. Dalmatian not so easy with the training 🙄

@ImAGoodPerson 😬
And then there's my one.. the younger if the two.. she used to get chased by a nasty border terrier and she'd just run off scared😅

My large breed dog has to be put in the small dog room at daycare as he's scared of the big ones, he's a 45kg puppy and just lets them all climb all over him. He's gentle as anything.

poorpaws · 20/04/2023 22:04

I came on here knowing that no one would dislike a greyhound, I was sooo wrong 😕. but I love them.

Yes I am not getting the dislike for greyhounds, fantastic dogs. Loves watching them run around a field. They look awesome!

There are 2 that go over our local dog park, it's amazing when their owner let's them go and they just leg it round the field. Our dog does a lap trailing behind them and lays down. He could probably jog 10 miles but definitely not built for speed.

FinnysTail · 21/04/2023 01:49

I have 2 Border Collies. They are not for the faint hearted, or fair weather walkers. BC’s are the most intelligent canine breed and absolutely adorable for owners who know their dog training stuff.

The breeds I wouldn’t entertain owning -

  • Anything Bully
  • Anything terrier
  • Anything small and snappy
  • Anything that can’t breathe
  • Anything with a weak spine
  • Anything under medium height
  • Anything over medium height
  • Labradors
  • Retrievers
  • Anything of low intelligence

Breeds I would consider -

  • GSD’s
  • Spaniels
  • Poodles
  • Mongrels (Depending on the obvious traits)
  • Poodle Crosses (Depending on what the poodle is crossed with. Cocker Spaniel - yes. King Charles Spaniel - no. Bichon - no. Labrador - no. Springer - yes. Maltese - No)
poorpaws · 21/04/2023 19:43

@ImAGoodPerson one of my collie crosses tries to keep up with my greyhound, it's so funny watching her trying to cut corners and getting nowhere near the beautiful swift greyhound. We usually get an audience on the field when she starts to run.

They are quite fascinating to watch when they run!

Huskies. I just can’t see the point in owning a dog that aloof that can never be let off the lead.

XL bullies and their ilk. Horrible dogs with, usually, horrible owners.

Chihuahuas. Yappy gobshites

I've never met an aloof husky, they are affectionate goofballs from what I've seen.

My friend had a chihuahua, it was vicious.

icanneverthinkofnc · 21/04/2023 22:18

I know lots of husky and malamute dogs. Goofball is a good description 😀.
My akita cross is also a goofball. She loves people but is not a cuddle on a sofa dog. Very affectionate but likes her own space, I think she finds it too warm. Often, she will lay with her head on me for a few minutes and then get off the sofa but lay with her head next to my feet, just touching.

I'm not keen on Jack Russels..was bitten on the face by one as a child. I still have a very feint scar on my cheek.
Others I'm not keen on are are 'toy' dogs and flat faced dogs.

My malamute is the same, he loves cuddles, will come and snuggle on the sofa but not for long as I think he also gets too warm. He does proper cuddles and tucks his head round the back of my neck. He loves tummy rubs and will lay on his back any time people come to visit. He is super gentle with our other pets too, they are all small. He adores small dogs. He does have sketchy recall but mainly because he loves life and any time we go out he acts as if its the first time he's seen the outdoors so just bounces around.

Sunflowers765 · 21/04/2023 22:58

Can't stand pugs, frenchies bulldogs- any dog that hasn't got a muzzle poor things..
Drooling dogs. Who wants spit all over their walls and furniture??
GSDs that can't walk properly with their hips on the ground like that "best of breed" ( seriously??) at Crufts a few years ago.
Dogs with their eyes popping out of their heads like King Charles spaniel and pug
Dogs with backs so long and legs so short they get spinal issues .
Ridiculously tiny dogs that yap all the time
Massive ugly XL bully dogs.

I have a working line lab with healthy joints ( although I know some don't- but buy health tested pups only folks... ) He's clever, utterly trainable, affectionate, he can breathe normally when he runs, doesn't get heat stroke when he walks, doesn't need surgery to function, can eat without choking,
and I think he smells gorgeous!
Everyone should have a Labrador 😀😀

MiniTheMinx · 21/04/2023 23:32

I'm not keen on skinny dogs and pointy nosed dogs. I'm terrified of GSDs.

Love boxers, bostons, staffs, Amstaff, American bull dogs (not xl bully) English bull terriers, English mastiffs, and if allowed I'd choose to have a Doggo. I have always had bull breed and brachy type dogs, but I agree there is an issue with frenchies and Pugs now. I would never choose to have a dog that is bred to basically be near suffocating and require surgery, it's unnecessary to have bred this characteristic to this extent.

But my favourite is my very own grinny pig a staff x boston with a broad grin and makes cute snuffle sounds like a purr when happy.

RoseFl0wers · 22/04/2023 06:38

I hate Bully breeds. They are so ugly and so many American bulldogs, pitbulls and similar dogs are responsible for fatal bites or severe life changing injuries. I dislike a lot of muscular big dogs. I like small dogs, even the tiny ones. Not all are yappy and I don’t fear for my life because if I was attacked, I’m more likely to break free of their grasp.

TroysMammy · 16/04/2023 17:33

I don't like squashed faced dogs
Dribbly dogs
Bull breeds
Yappy toy dogs
I love scruffy dogs and dogs with whiskers.

This is my list too. I would add to it:

Big shorthairs such as Rotties or Dogue de Bordeaux.

Any short haired male that is intact and has big ugly bollocks on show.

Little white lap dogs with stained faces from their tear ducts.

I have a golden retriever girl and while she's lovely, she dribbles and sheds hair everywhere. I also love my friends dachshund. It's adorable and loves cuddles, but can bark a lot.

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 22/04/2023 07:11

I'm going to add to my list of dislikes - bloodhounds and bassets or anything with droopy eyes where you can see inside the eyelid.

bingohandjob · 22/04/2023 12:05

Airedale Terriers. I used to love the look of them until two large off lead Airedales attacked my on lead 8 month year old lab pup and the owner had NO control over them. It was a really, really horrible experience. I see him walking them occasionally still and I get a cold sweat every time I see them.

Little dogs that yap at EVERYTHING.

My lab smells lovely, too - you can't really smell him until you nuzzle up then he has a lovely biscuity smell. He has cold pressed food so must be that. I love his smell.

Unless he's eaten fox shit. Then he reeks until he's had a drink.😆

Sunflowers765 · 22/04/2023 20:20

@bingohandjob I know some labs can smell a bit musty but both mine have smelled gorgeous like biscuits! My young 8 month old smells lush and his feet smell of popcorn! Best dogs ever ❤️❤️

LabelleLabelle · 23/04/2023 13:53

I have a non shedding small terrier breed and he does smell but it’s his breath. For some reason he is unfortunately terribly prone to dental issues and has had so many teeth removed. I do like that he doesn’t shed and I am not sure I would get a dog that sheds a lot of hair but I don’t really dislike any breeds. I would just see if they fit with my family

Definitelyrandom · 23/04/2023 14:23

Some people are a bit weird when it comes to greyhounds. Ours loves nothing more than an audience when he goes for a flat out run.

I feel sorry for frenchies and pugs more than anything. The ones we see seem amiable little things. It's the owners who annoy me rather than the dogs - so frenchy/pug owners, owners of labs which are overweight, owners of small spaniels who rush to pick up their off lead dog - presumably on the basis that they think our chap is so stupid he'll mistake their dog for a rabbit.....

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/04/2023 15:31

My DD used to be scared of dogs but there were some amazing greyhounds and a lurcher that won her heart in our local park .

Probably the muzzles put her off , but one bloke out with his ex racer told DD the dog needed it because she was greedy and would hoover up bits of food she found , DD was relieved by this .
(He later told me that the dog was a fiend who chased squirrels but hid this info from my daughter . I was very grateful he saw my DD was scared and put her at ease , even with a tiny white lie !)
