I've found a puppy in a plastic bag

During a walk with my lab. It's looks like a poodle cross and go actually be in good condition.

I've called the vets and taking then in later. My next door neighbour has a microchip scanned and it's not chipped. No collar. Doesn't look to be in poor condition though.

Apart from the vets, what do I do?

I've fallen in love already!

Love it, keep it, be happy.

Isitoknow · 13/04/2023 15:15

Sorry, practically, I would keep it warm and still if possible. Maybe offer some water.

SixPurpleChairs · 13/04/2023 15:16

Photo!

neilyoungismyhero · 13/04/2023 15:16

What the pp said...lol...I've always wanted to find similar but never have.

WutheredOut · 13/04/2023 15:16

Poor little pup!
Whatever you do do not put it on social media - you’ll get all manner of idiots trying to claim it
But we obviously require a picture

SixPurpleChairs · 13/04/2023 15:16

Can you guess how old it is?

TheFlis12345 · 13/04/2023 15:17

I would post about it on local Facebook pages giving a vague description including age and where it was found, but not post a photo. That was the emphasis would be on anyone claiming it to prove it is theirs and provide photos.

PinkFootstool · 13/04/2023 15:17

Report to the police in case its a stolen dog. Unlikely, but posible.

Keroppi · 13/04/2023 15:18

No way! Wow! Whatever shop the bag was from name it after it 😁
Lots of water and a warm quiet room perhaps

Itakecreaminmycoffee · 13/04/2023 15:19

Aww, had they tied the bag up? Poor puppy, keep it op - it’s lucky to have been found by you!

retrosteamband · 13/04/2023 15:20

That’s awful, but thank goodness you came across it when you did and rescued it

Orangebadger · 13/04/2023 15:22

Poor puppy. Wonder how old it is? But why would someone do that? Just awful. The puppy is very lucky you found them.

CosyFanTucci · 13/04/2023 15:23

Do you have a local rescue centre? At a guess, a responsible owner would have microchipped it and not left it in a plastic bag so I would probably do the following:

  • contact local police to see if any missing dogs reported
  • look on social media for missing dog notices (and flyposted signs) but I wouldn't post anything about finding one as a load of chancers and idiots will respond
  • either leave it with a rescue who will have a foster family able to care for it
  • or look after the little guy until a better idea comes along
NCTDN · 13/04/2023 15:24

The poor puppy! It astounds me that people could do this.

BeatricePortinari · 13/04/2023 15:26

Could you change the thread title please?
Every Time I see it in active convos I find it upsetting.

I'm so glad he's well.

Newpeep · 13/04/2023 15:27

Your vet will have a link with the local pound which legally the puppy has to go to unless claimed or rehomed.

Our local pound is a very good rehoming kennels and puppies are taken there and they are put into foster homes.

I have found several dogs over the years and my vets have been excellent at dealing with them and letting me know the outcome.

Hoppinggreen · 13/04/2023 15:28

Why does this never happen to me?

Abra1t · 13/04/2023 15:28

Doglost on Facebook might be a good plan.

Eggseggseverywhere · 13/04/2023 15:29

Go back and check there isn't anymore..

CatChant · 13/04/2023 15:30

Poor mite. How utterly heartless people can be.

Glad you found him OP.

You have always wanted to find a puppy in a plastic bag !

I agree with @CosyFanTucci , have a look on sm but dont advertise or all the nutters will be claiming the poor pup .
Perhaps just put
'Dog found in >> insert wide local area << am/ pm .
Don't put its sex / age / colour etc, they need to be able to give you that info along with a couple of photos.

Thank you for rescuing the poor mite

ayal · 13/04/2023 15:33

Will post a pic later.

Hard to say how old but can't be any older than 4ish months maybe?

Thank you for all your responses. One very waggy tail here.

LeefPeeper · 13/04/2023 15:35

Oh my goodness! What a shock that must have been. I think I would offer to foster it once it had been to vets and then keep it for ever 🥰

CMOTDibbler · 13/04/2023 15:37

Phone the local dog warden - just google your area and dog warden - and they will get it checked over and then hold it at the vets or kennels before it goes to rescue

Mariposista · 13/04/2023 15:37

Poor little thing. Sounds like he has been found by the perfect person. Provided you have the room, money and time for an extra dog, and your labbie won't mind, keep the puppy!
