I will start
Corgis
Afghan Hounds

When I was a child I used to see lots of Afghan Hounds
And I don’t see any of the Collies with long hair (like Lassie is it a Rough Collie?)
Border Collies I see a lot of though

Setters

GiantCheeseMonster · 21/08/2021 13:35

I don’t think you see many Cairns as you used to, or even as many Westies.
Old English Sheepdogs.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 21/08/2021 13:39

Must depend on location I suppose because there’s a few Basset Hounds and Rough Collies here. Don’t see any Old English Sheepdogs here though or Irish Setters, both of which seemed quite popular when I was young.

PostMenPatWithACat · 21/08/2021 13:43

Agree with Afghans
Also pure poodles with pom pom coats
Alsatians
Dalmatians
Setters
Jack Russels and plainer terriers

They seem to have been eclipsed by cockpoos, labradoodles, shihtzus(sp), dachshunds, etc.

SherryPalmer · 21/08/2021 13:46

Corgis are very popular in China.

hellcatspangle · 21/08/2021 13:47

I'm so sick of the sight of cockerpoos. Practically everyone I know who's had a dog in the last five years has had one.

Ohpulltheotherone · 21/08/2021 13:49

Doberman’s and Rottweilers.
I see the odd one, an occasional older rottie but very few Doberman’s compared to the 90s.

EccentricaGalumbits · 21/08/2021 13:50

I miss seeing Bull Terriers, they have the sweetest faces.

Don't see Boxers much these days either.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 21/08/2021 13:51

You don't see many Bichon Frisees as well.

fringeneedsatrim · 21/08/2021 13:56

Every other dog I see seems to be a poodle mix... it's sad that everyone seems to have the same looking dog now days. Especially as when people talk about them they often say they got a poodle mix because they're hypoallergenic when very often they aren't at all... they're only hypoallergenic if they inherited that dominant gene from the poodle.

ImperfectTents · 21/08/2021 13:56

Loads of bichons near me. Haven’t seen an English sheep dog in years

CovidCorvid · 21/08/2021 14:00

Dandie dinmonts…..only ever seen one.

megletthesecond · 21/08/2021 14:01

We used to have an Afghan hound in our town. It was huge.

NotQuiteUsual · 21/08/2021 14:02

I haven't seen any Irish Setters in years or Rough Collies. Both were my favourite breeds growing up. I've seen a fair few Rottweilers about though, my toddler is bloody obsessed with them, so I always know if there's one nearby.

Thighdentitycrisis · 21/08/2021 14:02

@MrsDeaconClaybourne
There are a few setters in my area
2 Irish since lockdown, there were already one Irish and an elderly English one

I always notice because we had two as a child

Might help if you look for German Shepherds instead of "Alsatians"
Thighdentitycrisis · 21/08/2021 14:03

Boxers are fab

MrsWooster · 21/08/2021 14:04

Mongrels, proper old school medium size bitzers.

DuesToTheDirt · 21/08/2021 14:05

Dalmatians. Though I don't think they were ever especially common.

gunnersgold · 21/08/2021 14:05

Everyone buys bloody cocker soo/woo/poo/doo's
It's like no other dogs exist anymore !🙄

gardeninggirl68 · 21/08/2021 14:06

I was thinking about this yesterday

Red setters! Where are they? Happy memories seeing lots locally back in the day!
