What's the most unusual breed in your street?

I know that unusual is subjective as a breed could be rare in one area but there could be several elsewhere, but I'm just curious to know what the most unusual breed is in your street or area.

Here it's probably a Kerry Blue.

I used to have a Tibetan spaniel so that was probably the most unusual in the last area I lived in, though a neighbour had a Giant Munsterlander and I haven't seem many of those around.

Not in my street but I saw a Clumber spaniel at a local event last year. Hadn't met one before.

vanillandhoney · 30/10/2020 20:57

Around here, we mostly have spaniels, collies, labradors and a variety of terriers. The rarest is possibly a pair of Great Danes, a blue-tick beagle or a bloodhound.

tabulahrasa · 30/10/2020 21:34

There’s a lady with somewhere between 10 and 15 poodles... it’s a bit hard to tell as she walks them altogether, I mean, I realise poodles aren’t rare exactly - but so many that we all call her the poodle lady must be...

Um, a swiss mountain is probably the rarest I can think of

bloodywhitecat · 30/10/2020 21:43

Mine I guess (but there are only four houses in our lane). He's a crossbreed but mummy is an English Springer and his dad is a Kerry Blue, together they made a Springier (or "..a Very Blue crossed with a Useless Spanner" as the toddler used to call him)

CatsAndEyeliner · 30/10/2020 21:48

Similar to @tabulahrasa there’s a big pack of huskies round here. Not necessarily rare, but to have a big pack of them together feels really unusual. (Not in snowy climates though obs.

Purplecatshopaholic · 30/10/2020 21:48

Probably mine. I have a Spanish Podenco. He’s a darling. Everyone else has labs, spaniels, oh and the ubiquitous doodles , be they labra, golden etc

minsmum · 30/10/2020 21:49

Mine is the most unusual in the street, he is a Fox hound, in fact he is the most unusual in the area.

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 30/10/2020 21:50

The lady a few doors up has a rescue dog. She had a DNA test done to find out what it was and it turned out to be some incredibly rare breed that there’s only a few hundred of left. I can’t for the life of me remember what it actually is though. The dog itself looks a bit like a cross between a wire haired dachshund and a schnauzer.

Chicksy · 30/10/2020 21:54

2 Weimaraners with beautiful shiny grey coats. Everyone else has tiny dogs that can be carried instead of walked.

lazylinguist · 30/10/2020 21:58

Practically everyone in my road has a cocker spaniel! We have a German Shorthaired Pointer and there's another one in the village. I see a Great Dane on my walks around the village, and there are two standard poodles. Nothing very unusual!

Frannibananni · 30/10/2020 22:02

Really only labs and corgis with my neighbours- labs seem to be the younger families, corgis the older ladies. And a marameema(sp?) with the younger group next door.

Ah we used to have a Kerry blue when I was a teenager. He was absolutely bonkers Grin
Floralnomad · 30/10/2020 22:05

There is an Italian greyhound about 4 doors up and aside from that it’s mainly spaniels , labs and a variety of poo mixtures . We have a patterdale x so not particularly exotic but I’ve only seen 1 other patterdale in our neighbourhood .

Pipandmum · 30/10/2020 22:10

My neighbours have two bull terriers. Weirdly they are absolutely silent, though one of them does play with a squeaky toy occasionally.
Most popular seem to be Jack Russells, cockerpoos and greyhounds. Did see two gorgeous Irish Wolfhounds at the park the other day. Massive.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 30/10/2020 22:12

Hungarian Puli. I've never seen one in real life before, I always thought they were quite big but this one is small and yappy. The rest of our street pack is made up of 1 labradoodle, 6 proper mongrels, 1 staffie,1 Saint Bernard, 1 labrador & 2 golden retrievers. 3 of the mongrels are related.

GrouchyKiwi · 30/10/2020 22:12

Someone near us has a Tibetan Mastiff. He's beautiful but really grumpy and all the other dogs bark at him. And some of the dogs mistake my lovely, sweet Newfie for him, for she is also large and fluffy and black.

SourMilkGhyll · 30/10/2020 22:13

On our street we have an irish setter and a nova scotia duck tolling retriever.
I was very proud of myself for correctly identifying it the fitst time I saw it. There can't be many NSDTRs about I don't think.

kateybeth79 · 30/10/2020 22:28

I have a white German Shepherd and whilst German Shepherds aren't unusual, I've had so many people say they never knew white German Shepherds existed.

StillMedusa · 30/10/2020 22:29

My dog.. a Eurasier! I love that people have no idea what she is, and make wild guesses .
Where I live you pretty much have to have a Lab, a spaniel or a cockerpoo so we do rather stand out!

MrsPernicious · 30/10/2020 22:30

There is a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon near us. He is rather calm and very butch, quite different to our GWP Grin

BibbityBobbityBellend · 30/10/2020 22:33

Outing now but mine! We have a big black American Akita. He sits in the window like a cat. There are about three on the estate but all white. One in particular I haven't seen for a while (eek but possibly due to covid and travel times changing) was the opposite of my dog and always seemed lovely. We called him the good Akita and ours was bad.

sweetkitty · 30/10/2020 22:34

Our street is full of Lhasa Apsos, lunchtime is the Lhasa show, they are all walked up and down the pavement and bark at each other.

What else?
2 dalmatians
a beagle
A few labs
A few -apoos

Our ridgeback is probably the rarest

StormBaby · 30/10/2020 22:34

Probably mine 🤣 it’s incredibly outing to say, they are that unusual, but I have 2 Afghans and a Sloughi.

Meepmeeep · 30/10/2020 22:37

Eurasier - never knew the breed existed until it appeared.

Peachypips78 · 30/10/2020 22:39

We have a black mini schnauzer and in our village there is a black GIANT schnauzer. It looks like they somehow sized ours up!
