What's the most unusual breed in your street?

I know that unusual is subjective as a breed could be rare in one area but there could be several elsewhere, but I'm just curious to know what the most unusual breed is in your street or area.

Here it's probably a Kerry Blue.

I used to have a Tibetan spaniel so that was probably the most unusual in the last area I lived in, though a neighbour had a Giant Munsterlander and I haven't seem many of those around.

Couple of Boston Terriers, pair of Spinone and a Shiba Inu. Dozens of labs and spaniels. This is Dog City.

Darklane · 31/10/2020 20:13

My Skye Terriers

Hoppinggreen · 31/10/2020 22:08

I am very jealous of the person with a Marema (sp?) next door

BibbityBobbityBellend · 01/11/2020 06:50

@FondantIcing the exception that makes the rule 😂 no, ours is lovely and playful but he is very much like a cat. Comes to you when he wants to and makes it clear when he doesn't. It's clear when you've annoyed him as he grumbles and huffs. If you ask him to come to you, you may have to ask twice because if he doesn't want to you will see his through process and lack of movement. Sometimes he pretends not to have heard you but he will always come as he knows we are boss. Not things I necessarily wanted in a dog but he is lovely. He has been aggressive in the past but mostly we have trained it out of him.

@tabulahrasa ah, I see what you mean. I was thinking fashionable like a chihuahua in a bag. Yes, it is a shame as those people rarely train dogs well and these are a breed that need that.

SimonJT · 01/11/2020 09:08
Yes, I have a Shiba Inu which is a relation. Shiba’s also ‘scream’
Fern204 · 01/11/2020 09:15

Our Irish Terrier

Funf · 01/11/2020 10:05

All normal dogs apart from our Dandie Dinmont

MsMarvellous · 01/11/2020 15:49

I have a Dalmatian. Probably the most unusual dog on the street. There are a couple of spaniels, a poodle, a chihuahua and a cockerpoo that I know.

WhyOhWine · 01/11/2020 16:07

I would say that where we live, nearly 90% of the dogs we see fall within 1 of the following categories:

  1. Poodle crosses and actual poodles
2 the breeds most commonly crossed with poodles (labs, retrievers, cockers, cavaliers) 3 smaller bulldog breeds (English, French etc) and other smaller squishy nosed types eg pugs 4 dachshunds 5 Greyhounds (nice to see - I generally assume they have been adopted following retirement) 6 handbag dogs - mainly poms but some chihuahuas) 7 mini schnauzers 8 border terriers and border collies

It is really nice when we see something different we see so many of the above. There is a Leonberger (sp?) on our street who we love to see out and about. There are some breeds that I used to think of as pretty mainstream such as setters which I just never see these days. Maybe they never were that common and it was coincidence that there were a few in the area where I grew up.

Bergerdog · 01/11/2020 16:52

I think it’s probably our leonberger.

There is also the most beautiful merle rough collie who I love to see.
Oh and the old English sheepdog, he’s pretty old now and she shaves him but in full coat he looks amazing.

The rest are the usual JRT or poodle crosses with the odd lab or collie. There’s also about 3-4 german shepherds we see on a regular basis.

CMOTDibbler · 01/11/2020 19:55

In our road there are lots of springers, a couple of labs, border terrier, white fluffy things that I'm not quite sure about (anti social owner), and our dogs.
I've only ever met one other dog of ddog2s probable mix, so I guess he's most unusual - whippet x doberman ish and he's blue so gets a huge amount of attention.
Theres several leonbergers locally, but my favourite unusual dogs to see are the borzois who we occasionally bump into, and the trailhound

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/11/2020 20:11

@StormBaby

Probably mine 🤣 it’s incredibly outing to say, they are that unusual, but I have 2 Afghans and a Sloughi.
Oh my God I would LOVE to meet an Afghan! What are they like personality-wise? I heard they're practically untrainable, is it true?
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/11/2020 20:14

@Sophoa

I’m not sure there’s anyone on our street who doesn’t have a poo

Going to @WolfieFan as I think this is a thread for you.

I met my first ever wolfhound up close a couple of weeks ago. He was called Geoff. Unbelievable dogs - they look like something out of Game of Thrones, and everything they do (including barking) is in slow motion.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/11/2020 20:18

Going to @ @WolfieFan* I mean.

Alfiemoon1 · 01/11/2020 20:33

We dog walk 2 cane corsa everyone thinks they are Great Danes same family has a Hairless chihuahua amongst others they have 12 dogs between them

Nobody round here had heard of a Lhasa apso which we have my friend has an old English sheepdog and we don’t see many of those around it’s mainly labs and cockerspoos round here

Imonaplane · 01/11/2020 20:38

On my road there are lots of dogs - mostly small curly coated. The most unusual are my GSPs.

Scarby9 · 01/11/2020 20:42

I met a 12 week old labrador outside my front door last night.
It is so long since I met an actual labrador rather an a labradoodle or some other combination.

Ilady · 01/11/2020 20:42

I like if the posters here could put up a picture of their dogs as I am not familiar with some of the dogs you have.

SimonJT · 01/11/2020 20:44

This isn’t our pup, but this is what we have, Shiba Inu

Alfiemoon1 · 01/11/2020 20:58

I’ve just realised my auto correct put cane corsa lol not corso sorry

JeVoudrais · 01/11/2020 21:02

Probably mine. She's not rare but unusual, a Chinese crested (hairless).

DominaShantotto · 01/11/2020 21:09

In our street - probably our greyhound - the rest are spaniels or shi-tzu things (one of which is constantly allowed to shit in the road near my car meaning I end up having to pick it up for the fuckwit owners).

Most unusual in the local area (this cross boggles my mind) - there's a whippet x dachshund that walks locally - it looks hilariously like a stretch limo whippet!

MothershipG · 01/11/2020 21:09

My Affenpinschers, they are grumpy old men who swear at all the new Covid puppies we meet, mostly poodle crosses, but a good selection of all the usual suspects, labs, collies, JRT. We did meet a beautiful deerhound the other day.
