What's the most unusual breed in your street?

I know that unusual is subjective as a breed could be rare in one area but there could be several elsewhere, but I'm just curious to know what the most unusual breed is in your street or area.

Here it's probably a Kerry Blue.

I used to have a Tibetan spaniel so that was probably the most unusual in the last area I lived in, though a neighbour had a Giant Munsterlander and I haven't seem many of those around.

My sister has a trailhound, and we regularly see two borzoi at the local beach. Incredible looking dogs.

@OrigamiPenguinArmy

There’s a Japanese spitz in my area, it’s absolutely beautiful, Snow White coat and a black nose like a polar bear. There’s also a Keeshond, a Dutch barge dog and another kind of spitz, i often meet in one of the parks.

The oddest dog breed I’ve ever met were a pair of black Russian terriers. They’re not actually terriers at all, they are a giant crossbreed, this is from Wikipedia “Despite its name, the Black Russian Terrier is not a true terrier: it is believed that about seventeen breeds were used in its development, including the Airedale, the Giant Schnauzer, the Rottweiler, the Newfoundland, the Caucasian Shepherd Dog and other breeds” they were created in the USSR as military and working dogs. I didn’t speak to their owners for long enough to find out why they had them, but they were certainly very niche dogs.

We've got a Russian Black Terrier! She's an amazing dog although because they were bred / created originally to guard the Russian military, they're a big responsibility despite their cuddly bear like appearance Bear

I live on a very long road, do don’t know which dogs live further up, but we’re right next to the park and I get to see a parade of dogs pretty much all day every day.

The most unusual ones I see regularly are a Lagotto Romagnolo (which most people tend to assume is a Poodle cross) an Airedale, an Afghan Hound, a Bernese, a Pekingese and a Skye Terrier. The majority are Labs, an abundance of the various Poodle mixes, Border Collies, Cocker Spaniels and JRTs.

I have a rescue mixed breed and he is a rarity around here.

Kooikerhondje
(mine)
He stands out as we also have two cavalier spaniels.. Who are quite common.
Lots of people ask us what he is... And presume its a mix.. Like a labradoodle or cockerpoo.. My dd gets very upity and explains he is a rare Dutch breed... Not some modern trendy crossbreed

heydoggee · 25/11/2020 12:10

@JacobReesMogadishu

You can see why people think they’re terriers.
I have a podengo! Mine is 'medio'.

@heydoggee Oh he's gorgeous. Is he a rescue? Most of the medio ones I've seen are. My vet here in England is Portugese and when I first took my Pod in I actually saw the scottish vet in the practice but the Portugese one came in to meet my dog as he said he'd never seen one in the UK. He did say they're as common as Jack Russells in Portugal! Grin

OneLinePlease · 25/11/2020 13:46

I'm pretty sure every dog in my street is a cockerpoo Wink

JiltedJohnsJulie · 25/11/2020 13:51

In our street there's one household with 2 Newfoundland's and a Chinese Crested.

Closingtime94 · 25/11/2020 13:51

Probably mine, he's a Welsh springer spaniel and I've not seen one before

GeidiPrimes · 25/11/2020 13:58

Like a chunky bear cub/husky cross with a tail like a pig Maybe a chow? (They have a blue tongue!)

I think my dog might be the most unusual one in my street, a bodeguero. I didn't choose the breed, he's rescued from Spain where they're v. common. We did meet another one on his walk the other day though.

currahee · 25/11/2020 13:59

A schipperke - and yes, frequently asked what cross that is!

MaMisled · 25/11/2020 14:02

I walk with a guy and his Duck Tolling Retriever.

MadDoggoLady · 25/11/2020 14:14

My smushy face! The rest are cockerpoos.

Ah, I didn't realise they came in white, only seen brown ones before. Yes, I think it may have been a chow puppy.
RoSEbuds6 · 25/11/2020 17:45

When I was a child one of our neighbours had a Newfoundland and the other neighbour had two Hungarian Pulli (sp?). At the end of the road they had two black Standard poodles. Now we have 3 corpulent cavalier living a few doors up.

heydoggee · 25/11/2020 18:15

He's a little bit sheepdog too @JacobReesMogadishu but mainly podengo. Obsessed with scent tracking and chasing rabbits down holes.

HmmSureJan · 25/11/2020 18:22

A Chow. He's like a big fluffy Teddy Bear running around. I love him.

SlothMama · 26/11/2020 10:14

Probably my house with two nova scotia duck tolling retrievers and an akita! The rest of the street is a cocker, goldendoodle, husky and two border collies.

Doobydoo · 26/11/2020 10:46

Fuckoffyoueviltrolls · 26/11/2020 14:46
