What's the most unusual breed in your street?

I know that unusual is subjective as a breed could be rare in one area but there could be several elsewhere, but I'm just curious to know what the most unusual breed is in your street or area.

Here it's probably a Kerry Blue.

I used to have a Tibetan spaniel so that was probably the most unusual in the last area I lived in, though a neighbour had a Giant Munsterlander and I haven't seem many of those around.

We have a Siberian Husky puppy who is cream with a black stripe down his back. Most dogs in the close where we live are tiny. I don’t know what breeds they are.

Moonflower12 · 01/11/2020 21:15

@SourMilkGhyll
We know someone with a NSDTR too. We are in Warwickshire.

nc1962 · 01/11/2020 21:18

My wonderful companion is an Irish setter and is the most unusual dog on my road. I don't see many of them around, maybe one or two out walking in the woods near me every couple of years?

Wolfiefan · 01/11/2020 21:35

@JesusInTheCabbageVan yep I’m pretty certain mine are the most unusual in the street. Especially since I now have 2! Just for you!

I'm loving this thread, definitely needs more photos.

@Wolfiefan amazing picture of your beautiful dogs and incredible red of those leaves 🍁

GrouchyKiwi · 01/11/2020 22:33

Great photo, Wolfie. My sister in NZ has a Wolfhound, she's nearly 2 now.

We like big dogs in our family. My parents have a German Shepherd, as does my brother, and we have a Newfie. Although my SIL has a tiny wee fluffball who drives my other brother mad. Grin

SourMilkGhyll · 01/11/2020 22:55

Beautiful dogs @wolfirfan.
How tall are they?

Wolfiefan · 02/11/2020 07:59

I’ve not measured. But here’s the older one out walking with the cat for scale!

In my street it's all labs, Staffies (me inc) and one lady has 2 German shepherds.

I've got a working Lakeland terrier - so I guess it's me. Also had a Dobie and hardly see any of those about anymore.

lovelemoncurd · 02/11/2020 08:05

The hippy that lives 3 doors down!

bellinisurge · 02/11/2020 08:09

Proper 1970s mutt. Everyone has designer dogs.

devildeepbluesea · 02/11/2020 08:10

I have the oldest dog in my village, he's 18 now. But he's a common or garden JRT.

I've seen lots of beagles, collies, labs, Lhasa apsos, Stafford etc.

The rarer local dogs include Irish Wolfhounds (couple had 2 but lost 1 recently), Chesapeake bay retrievers, Old English sheepdog, Rhodesian ridgebacks, Weimaraner, a few Welsh terriers, a beautiful young corgi and an English mastiff.

CherryPavlova · 02/11/2020 08:21

We don’t have a street as such. It was our Dalmatian until he was destroyed. Now there are -
A fox red lab
A chocolate lab
Four border collies on the farm
A liver working cocker
Our Llewelyn Belton Blue English Setter

Definitely a preference for traditional working dogs here. Something lapdog like would drown in muddy puddles. Anything in fluffy clothes would feel somewhat alien.

k1233 · 02/11/2020 08:38

I've got a few. Mine is a westie, which isn't overly common around here. Amongst my friends there are nova scotia duck tolling retriever, lagotto romagnolo, akita, husky, standard poodle, mini schnauzer. I see nearly daily on their walks a pair of Rhodesian ridgebacks and at a different place a chinese crested. Tried to catch a wandering Airedale one day to take to local vet (was loose on a main road). Used to walk past a French mastiff - ran into her with her owner at the shops and she was beautiful.

MadamShazam · 02/11/2020 08:40

Newfoundlands, and lots of them! There is a lady nearby who breeds them. They are really lovely dogs.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/11/2020 08:45

@Wolfiefan 😍

AriesTheRam · 02/11/2020 09:05

Brightonbabe5 · 02/11/2020 09:17

Mainly on our streets there's cute bichons, a couple of cavachons, a cavalier & 2 enegertic mini schnauzers that I love to out on their walks! Most unusual is a corgi & a samyoid (sp)
Lovely pics wolfiefan!

VaselinaAngelina · 02/11/2020 10:01

On our street it's probably our Irish Terrier but in the local park we have a wide selection of breeds, Lakeland terrier, Airdale Terrier, Spinone, Affenpincher, Shiba Inu's and Spitz one is German and one is Finish and the usual Labs/Poos and millions of spaniels

mintyfreshh · 02/11/2020 10:27

Every dog I see on our street or in the park is:

French bulldog or pug
Spaniel
Labrador or Golden Retriever

V few mutts. Where are all the mutts?!

longwayoff · 02/11/2020 18:35

It was common to see dogs wandering about loose before 1980 or so. Thus plenty of opportunity for mutts to breed. Since we all became a lot more responsible, thank heavens, far fewer mutts around.

Hm2020 · 02/11/2020 18:46

This is probably outing but I used to live next to a lady with a Japanese spitz and a Alaskan Klee Kai they where beautiful to watch

BernieCats · 02/11/2020 18:48

Probably myself with 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs & a English Bull terrier. It's mostly jack russels, cockapoos, lurcher/greyhound and French Bulldogs round me

Letsleepingdogslie8 · 02/11/2020 19:00

DBIL has a Boerbel. Massive beast. DH wants a Cane Corso next which will definitely be a rarity in our area.

CanSomeoneElsePickMyName · 02/11/2020 19:02

@OrigamiPenguinArmy

The lady a few doors up has a rescue dog. She had a DNA test done to find out what it was and it turned out to be some incredibly rare breed that there’s only a few hundred of left. I can’t for the life of me remember what it actually is though. The dog itself looks a bit like a cross between a wire haired dachshund and a schnauzer.
Dandie dinmont? Glen of imaal?
