What's the most unusual breed in your street?

I know that unusual is subjective as a breed could be rare in one area but there could be several elsewhere, but I'm just curious to know what the most unusual breed is in your street or area.

Here it's probably a Kerry Blue.

I used to have a Tibetan spaniel so that was probably the most unusual in the last area I lived in, though a neighbour had a Giant Munsterlander and I haven't seem many of those around.

Neighbour on our estate has just got a sharpei crossed with an American bulldog.

NorbertMeubles · 02/11/2020 19:22

Not too rare but we have a beautiful English Bull Terrier on our street, she's the sweetest thing. She's unusual where I live as we just have an abundance of labradors and labradoodles.

HeidiPeidi · 03/11/2020 01:18

Probably one of ours. We have a Hovawart (possibly outed myself there if put together with other posts of mine!). People always assume he’s some sort of golden retriever or lab cross. Our neighbour has an Afghan hound which you don’t see often here.

Justsocross · 03/11/2020 12:23

Probably my 6 Gordon setters !!!

mintyfreshh · 03/11/2020 15:43

@longwayoff

It was common to see dogs wandering about loose before 1980 or so. Thus plenty of opportunity for mutts to breed. Since we all became a lot more responsible, thank heavens, far fewer mutts around.
Kind of but there are a tonne of overbred dogs with myriad health issues now.
MarcoPoloCX · 03/11/2020 17:38

There's a Shiba Inu and Klee Kai.

Pinkypie86 · 04/11/2020 07:15

So many doggies :)
On our street there's a Frenchie, Patterdale, Cane Corso, Collie and our English Bulldog. Who is the talk of the street because she's new and, so very stubborn.

Agreed mintyfresh but still preferable to scraping their remains off your car.

sunglassesonthetable · 23/11/2020 20:54

Our Bedlington Terrier gets lots of questions. Unusual around here.

longwayoff · 24/11/2020 06:56

Ah, a lamb dogSmile haven't seen one in years.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 24/11/2020 07:09

Probably our dog, a Basset Fauve de Bretagne. The other dogs are Border Collies, Pugs and Cockerpoos. It's a very 'catty' street.

AtlasPine · 24/11/2020 07:10

I saw a Manchester Terrier the other day - a handsome dog. And it was with a Toy Terrier who had the sweetest temperament.

mdinbc · 24/11/2020 07:28

There is a new pup up our street - a Silken Windhound. I had never heard of the breed before. Looks like a fluffy greyhound/whippet. They just got him late summer, and I haven't seen him since (we must have different walking schedules). I'll be interested to see how he looks now.

I have never seen a Kerry Blue before. They look lovely! We don't have too many terriers in our area.

JacobReesMogadishu · 24/11/2020 07:32

I used to have a Portuguese podengo pequano. They’re still very unusual.

Dd was little at the time and we used to go to village dog shows, country fair dog shows, etc for some fun and the organisers would be telling me I needed to be in the terrier class as they didn’t have a clue what he was or that he was a sighthound.

TheVanguardSix · 24/11/2020 07:36

A chow chow and a saluki (very aggressive, goes for every dog, wears a muzzle which makes the owner think she can have it off lead all the time. Confused).

JacobReesMogadishu · 24/11/2020 07:36

You can see why people think they’re terriers.

Kerry Blues are gorgeous. We have a local Airdale nearby. He's so noble and handsome.

TheVanguardSix · 24/11/2020 07:38

Airedale (sp) I meant. Sorry.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 24/11/2020 07:39

Next door has a northan Inuit. He's the loveliest dog with a great nature. He does like to howl though which confuses people walking past who you can see are wondering what the noise is

bearlyactive · 24/11/2020 07:39

In my area I often see what is either an enormous white husky or a Samoyed being walked.

Squeakycheese · 24/11/2020 07:50

The most unusual dog I've seen where I live is a shiba inu. Mostly people have labradors, cockapoo's, collies and border terriers.

poppinpink · 24/11/2020 07:50

There's a Scottish deerhound round here, massive lovely dog compared to my very small Maltese.

sprockerdiles · 24/11/2020 09:39

We are fairly rural so its mainly muddy labs and working spaniels, but I saw a couple walking 3 beautiful dalmatians recently. Dont think I've seen one in the flesh before!

spiderlight · 24/11/2020 10:48

The only remotely unusual dog in our street is a Dogue de Bordeaux who lives a few doors up from us and is lovely.

JacobReesMogadishu · 24/11/2020 17:23

I saw a dog breed I didn’t recognise today, was so cute.

Small, possibly a puppy though. White. Like a chunky bear cub/husky cross with a tail like a pig.
