Our puppy is fourteen weeks now - it's still a bit three steps forward, one hundred and sixteen steps backwards! Anyone else finding this?

I've just weighed our pup - we've had him 11 days and he's gone from 3.9kg to 5.5kg. That's impressive weight gain!

I spend ages outside with him each day but he likes to do all his wees and poos in privacy and in the comfort of his own home!!! sigh

MidLifeCrisis007 · 02/03/2016 21:41

The sister of our puppy is still available. She SO deserves a loving home.... Please help to get her rescued!

How annoying midlife , we still get the odd wee accident each day and I am spending a lot more time in the garden than I'd like saying his wee/poo 'codeword' (swizzles) but should count myself lucky the poos at least are outside. All the better for rampaging through the garden pulling at flowerheads and ripping up grass...

Our puppy arrives tomorrow. Eeeek! 8 week old whippet.

He's eating raw beef mince and burns kibble. What treats would be suitable for him?

bigbutsrus1 · 05/03/2016 19:26

How exciting Mner, you one day ahead of us. Our 8 week whippet comes on Monday! I look forward to hearing details of your first night home!!

Mner · 05/03/2016 20:34

I'm half excited/half petrified. I'm not sure I'm going to sleep tonight let alone once he's actually here keeping me awake!

Good luck to both of us bigbuts

First day went well for the pup. He's eaten and done one wee in the garden. No accidents in the house. He's had 2 massive naps in ha crate. Still napping now. He's not met the cat yet - we're trying to tackle one thing at a time!

DS (4yr) seems to be the one struggling. He's just had a major meltdown, which isn't like him. Wondering if it's jealousy or just him being a pain! Pup slept through it!

What an end to Mother's Day!

Mner · 06/03/2016 20:14

And then 2 accidents tonight!

bigbutsrus1 · 06/03/2016 21:34

Well done Mner! Keep me updated how your night went! Especially if or when you let him out for wees during the night!

Mner · 07/03/2016 08:49

It wasn't too bad. Half an hour of crying, then he woke at 5, took him to the toilet. Then he wouldn't settle after that. We all ended up getting up at 6.30.

The cat has been in the room whilst he's been in the crate and they've seen each other in the garden.

Pegglebot · 07/03/2016 09:50

Ooh good luck with your pup Mner, we are thinking of getting a whippet pup around September time so will be reading your posts with interest!

bigbutsrus1 · 07/03/2016 20:55

Our new whippet pup was a dream on a 3 hour journey home. Wee and poo on the pad by back door. Seems to play for 15 mins and then sleeps a lot! He is very cuddly and wants to sit on us the whole time. We put him in his crate whilst we put the kids to bed with a Kong bone with tiny piece of cheese. He nibbled that for 10 mins then squealed lots! I let him out in a break of squealing! So far so good!

Mner · 07/03/2016 21:19

Glad he's settling well. Ours napped so much today, I actually managed to get quite a bit of work done today (I work from home). He was fab at the vet for his jabs but hated the car.

He seems a bit more chilled than yesterday, more interested in his toys. Him and the cat have been in the same room for a few mins so progress.

Tomorrow's challenge is to leave him at home for DS's swimming and getting through a toddler play date!

bigbutsrus1 · 07/03/2016 21:26

Here he is!

Mner · 07/03/2016 23:35

Awww cute! And one from us...

MidLifeCrisis007 · 08/03/2016 06:11

Our Springer/JRT is 15 weeks old now. I came down at 5.45am to let him out to find 3 large poos and 2 wees on the kitchen floor and a sparkling clean puppy pad sigh He gets let out late at night but just won't perform outside in the cold. Bring on the warmer weather! In other ways he's brilliantly obediently and an absolutely pleasure to take on walks - it's just his house training that hasn't made much progress yet!!

Mner · 08/03/2016 22:46

Oh no! Not what you want to deal with at that time in the morning!

How long did yours take to stop crying when you put them to bed at night?

MidLifeCrisis007 · 09/03/2016 06:28

We had 3 nights of whining and whimpering. We aren't using a crate at night as he was dirtying it.

But I've also made a point of leaving him for a hour or two during the day - i.e. securing him in the kitchen while I go out upstairs or leaving him in a crate in the car while I do errands.

This morning he refused to go out first thing as it's raining cats and dogs.....

Mner · 09/03/2016 07:31

Slightly better overnight last night so maybe there's hope he's starting to settle. That was our 3rd night.

Urgh, the rain! We're gong to get cabin fever. Pup loves having a zoom about the garden!

The cat randomly came and sat on the couch in the lounge whilst the dog was sleeping on me on the couch. All of his own accord. Cat was actually purring until the dog moved and then he started hissing and growling. Good progress on that front I think.

bigbutsrus1 · 09/03/2016 07:43

Just had our second night. Wee and bed at 11.30. Then lots of barking (was winning last night). Went down as thought he'd hurt himself, just went for a wee about 2am. Was very windy and the rain was noisy so maybe it scared him. I got up at 6.30 and he seems to forget where to wee! 2 accidents on kitchen floor. Not hood on our cat front, she stayed outside all night the first night. Pup chased her, she hissed but didn't stand her ground. It is still pouring with rain this morning. I was planning on doing 'teach to wee outside' today or even just have a play outside! He has stood outside a few times but shakes and tries to get straight back in! BUT I have managed to teach him to SIT with clicker and treat training!!!

Mner · 09/03/2016 09:38

We've been really lucky with the toilet training as the breeder had started it already.

Have you got any feliway in? I've got one of the plug ins downstairs. Hoping that might help!

Mner · 09/03/2016 09:40

I need to get cracking on the training though!

MidLifeCrisis007 · 09/03/2016 10:02

My puppy fell into a steam this morning. He was traumatised after I fished him out! Happy as larry now though!

bigbutsrus1 · 09/03/2016 14:04

Just bought a adaptil plug in to help with separation anxiety! When I got home from the shops he did wander around whining and wanting me to hold him!
