Our puppy is fourteen weeks now - it's still a bit three steps forward, one hundred and sixteen steps backwards! Anyone else finding this?

He is so cute! We're having less accidents in the house, in fact none when it's just me & her. Socialisation is going well, she loves puppy class & loves playing with other dogs. She had a ball on the park this morning with a spaniel & a cockapoo.

One thing I am finding a bit upsetting is some people's reaction to her breed. As she's a puppy some people think she's a chocolate lab, when I tell them she's a Dobermann they back off & I can tell don't want to talk to me anymore. Hey ho.

This is Bernard , he's 15 weeks and frigging massive .... He pulls everything of the sides in the kitchen , and has taken to pissing all over one of our sofas . Super . He barks at other dogs when we're out too ... And is generally a nightmare but gorgeous and lovely personality .

Yoohoo!! Can I join in? Grin We got our 9 week old border collie yday and he's settling in nicely so far Smile I'm managing to get him to do most poos on the garden (if I'm around at the time!) although wees are all over the place. However he has done a few outside on our regular garden trips too!
Any advice from anyone here who's a bit further ahead is most welcome Grin

Here's my little pooch....

pippin I love Dobermans, we had a rescue one ans she was the sweetest natured dog. Very gentle and funny .... If a little dopey!

I met a lady with a rottie puppy who had a similar reaction from some people

foofooyeah · 01/02/2016 22:58

Loving all the puppy pics

8 month old cocker here. The nipping passes it really does - when their baby teeth fall out. He mouths a bit now and then that's all.
Here's my wisdom to impart. Let the puppies sleep. If they have got really boisterous and nippy they are tired out then down for a nap like a toddler. If they don't settle with you around go out for a bit or put the crate somewhere quiet away from you. Puppies need growing sleeps it really helps.
Get a no pull harness they really help.

Moonandstarsandback · 02/02/2016 10:14

Bernard looks very relaxed Grin

Moonandstarsandback · 02/02/2016 10:16

I'm amazed. No poo from puppy overnight and wee on the pad (by back door) only Shock Dogs are so clever Smile

However, he doesn't like the rain! Think he's scared of it! Haha! Wink

eandh · 02/02/2016 10:37

Boris had his 5month check at the vet today (we are part of puppy club so he is checked monthly for weight, teeth, fleeing and worming plus they cut his nails!) He is doing well weighs 10kg she doesn't seem to think he'll get much bigger than 12/13kg and a tiny bit more in height (his mum was a small Cocker) was a good boy when she checked his teeth and he has lost 5/6 teeth (we knew one had fallen out but must have swallowed the others!)

H joined a local dog walking group that meet on mondays and the man that runs it was so helpful yesterday when he went (his day off so I was working) and Boris managed nearly an hour off lead walking, running and playing and with the tricks of the man who ran the group he came back every single time DH summoned him (I know more than recommended but he was loving it and DH sayid half the time he was playing vs walking) so today I've gone to a fairly busy park where I knew there would be other dogs and he did 25 minutes off lead (and came back every time I called!) he is shattered now and curled up in front of the fire think he is going to be a bit annoyed in an hour as we need to go to the groomers!

eandh · 02/02/2016 10:39

Mononstars&back ours hated the rain and the dark till a few weeks ago (I was panicking that no walk would mean hyper puppy but we did little games indoors like hiding his kong, clicker training etc and that mentally wore him out and when rain eased off we managed a quick 10 min walk round the block)

The dog trainer came out to assess 12 week old GR Bertie last night prior to puppy classes and to help with a couple of issues and guess what Bertie did??
Nothing!! He behaved impeccably and we couldn't get him to bite DD at all.
Made us look like complete idiots.
He's asleep on my foot now and I've got pins and needles in it but he looks too comfortable to move

Moonandstarsandback · 02/02/2016 11:11

eandh, he's lovely Smile It sounds like your pup had a fab time out yday with your DH. It's great for them to run about with other dogs. They learn lots from each other. My pup is s border collie snd was born on a farm from 2 working parents, so it cracked me up when he wouldn't follow me out in the garden because of the rain Grin

Hopping, that's so typical! He must have sensed he was a dog trainer. WinkSmile

Runawayandjointhecircus · 02/02/2016 17:26

Clara what kind of harness do you have/ recommend?

Claraoswald36 · 02/02/2016 20:11

Runaway we started with the draw string type think they are just called no pull - works a treat but I take the little git on school runs with me and tie him to the railings whilst I take dd1 in. He turns around and chews the strings so we went through 2 until I found one in the range which has no strings it's just 2 squares you put their front legs through then you clip it together behind their head and then hook the lead through two rings which meet. I will find a pic hold on

Thanks I'm going to give it a go!

Pippin8 · 03/02/2016 18:52

Pippin puppy has been awful today. This morning hanging off me & the chairs constantly, jumped up & knocked my breakfast all over me.

At lunch the same, wouldn't eat her food, kept jumping up scratching & biting me, then howled like mad when I put her in her cage. DH is taking her to work tomorrow to give me a break. Ive started to dread coming home at lunch. 😢

SilverLining · 03/02/2016 19:51

Oh Pippin I feel your pain! Crap few days here too & I too am starting to dread being at home... Constantly nipping and biting - now accompanied with a bark!! DD2 thought he was going to pounce on her tonight which didn't help matters! I know he's only playing (hope!) but I need this phase to end!!

Pippin8 · 03/02/2016 20:33

I wonder if & when it'll end. Tonight she went out for a 10 min walk & came back & was crazy. Literally round & round the table then a big jump over DH's legs. Repeat times ten.

I asked the trainer at puppy class about this & she said is it too much exercise. But I don't see how a ten minute off lead walk round an open field would over exercise her. Surely kitchen agility with 2 foot high jumps will over exercise her??

I give up, my last puppy was a breeze.

SilverLining · 03/02/2016 20:41

This is my first!!! I'm a total novice!! I'm trying to do exactly what trainer tells me too but he just wants to bite unless he is asleep!! He has more toys, chews, games to play with but my legs are the favourite! He's only 16 weeks so can't walk him for long but maybe too much exercise is a bad thing too???! I feel like a did with newborn all over again & I survived that....just about!!! Good luck!

Notthecarwashagain · 06/02/2016 10:48

Oh a puppy support thread!
Glad I found you all!

We are only on day 3, and I'm already overwhelmed by the pee. So much pee!
I've got the 'new dog anxiety' at the moment, and wanting things to go back they were. My other dog and my cat are sulking. DS is not as comfortable as I hoped for... puppy is so lovely though!

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Aaaw, what gorgeous pups. And here's a wee phrase for those of you who have encountered ignorance from certain members of the public, over your choice of breed: it's deed, not breed!

Moonandstarsandback · 06/02/2016 11:22

Carwash, so utterly cute! Grin we are nearly a week into having our puppy and there is a lot of wee! Lol. My neighbours must think I'm bonkers as have been out there every half hour or so saying very enthusiastically 'GOOD BOY to do a WEE/POO every time he does (which is a lot!!). I'm not coping do well today though as I'm down with a d&v bug and have 5 year old Ds to look after too Confused

eandh · 06/02/2016 15:06

Awwww cute puppy carwash! Pippin we had great advice as when Boris little he used to have zoomie (and still does but we now how to deal with it) at 6.30/7 every night jumping, nipping and going slightly mad! He had his evening walk but trainer said although physically tired he was mentally very awake, so as soon as he had evening walk he came in and went to conservatory (his room) in his crate with a kong or a food puzzle game and was left alone to chill and mentally wear himself out after 10 minutes having a good chew he used to come in the lunge and plonk himself on his bed in front of the fire and pretty much sleep the night away!
