Our puppy is fourteen weeks now - it's still a bit three steps forward, one hundred and sixteen steps backwards! Anyone else finding this?

I am having the same issues with Dexter. I've been told that pups need to be walked for 5 mins per month of life - so in his case, 30 mins per day - I have been waaaay overwalking him apparently.

He is very bitey and shouty at the moment, I've had some great advice, but none of it seems to be working. He has ripped my tops, and I have bruises on my arms. He bloody hurts when he nips. We've only had him a week, but he seems to have had virtually no discipline.

The toilet training is improving though!

Moonandstarsandback · 07/02/2016 17:40

Notthat, I just read this morning 5 mins per month of age twice a day?

Moonandstarsandback · 07/02/2016 17:41

Also have you done the 'help' when he bites you? I've been trying it and it definitely stops him in his tracks. It's meant to gradually teach them to be gentle like mum or siblings would have done.

Moonandstarsandback · 07/02/2016 17:41

'Yelp' not help!!!

Pippin8 · 07/02/2016 20:24

Pippin puppy is sick. Lots of d&v & very unsettled. I think she may have eaten something on our walk. I have a feeling we'll be up tonight & off to the vets tomorrow.

foofooyeah · 07/02/2016 22:48

Sorry to hear Pippin puppy is ill. I do hope she is better soon.

I tried the Yelp thing but no effect on mine. But he has got getter as he has got older (5 months now)

Pippin8 · 08/02/2016 14:26

Well we weren't up all night, just once to let her out for a wee. I left her water in overnight as was worried about dehydration. She's back to being her normal self now-a pain in the arse!

Moonandstarsandback · 08/02/2016 16:18

Pleased to hear Pipin pup is much better Smile

Moonandstarsandback · 14/02/2016 09:01

How are the pups?

My puppy has taken to weeing on the one tiny bit of scarlet he can get to! I using biological powder in water to clean but he keeps going back.

Also he seems to have a wee frenzy between about 5pm for a few hours but hardly wees in the house at all, all day?!

Any advice?

Pippin8 · 14/02/2016 14:19

Dare I say it, but things are much improved here. We realised that we were doing too much with her & have cut that right back. Puppy class has been good & she's great with other dogs. Now she's 4 months we do 1 walk a day for 15-20 mins. We also restrict toys so she doesn't get too overwhelmed & sit & ignore her so she settles herself (which she now does).

We've taken her out to loads of places & she's been to work with DH a few times, so her experiences have been very varied. I just need to socialise her with children now, which is going to be hard as we only have a tiny baby in the family.

Moonandstarsandback · 14/02/2016 15:42

That was meant to say CARPET not scarlet!!!

Glad things are improving scarlet. X

Moonandstarsandback · 14/02/2016 15:45

Argh. Pipin!!

fitflopqueen · 15/02/2016 22:04

Help, we need some support!
How were your puppies eating when they first arrived home?
Our pup arrived at the weekend with the food she has been weaned on but she doesn't seem to like it. She has had small meals spaced out but not very enthusiastic and no competition now.

Otherwise happy and healthy, lots of output! and had a vet check today.
Not sure how long to persevere with current food or should we look at alternates.
any advice appreciated. thanks

Moonandstarsandback · 15/02/2016 22:17

I'm no expert, but what good did she come with? Research good food in your price range and maybe try something new?

Having said that, my puppy is 11 weeks old and seems to want to eat anything in front of him... But my last doggie, when he was a puppy we'd put down a bowl of dry food and he round eat when he felt like it, often in the middle if the night! But he grew very well and was healthy!

What did the vet say?

Moonandstarsandback · 15/02/2016 22:17

*food

fitflopqueen · 15/02/2016 23:36

We have Purina Proplan optistart for pups but she has had a small amount of rice and chicken tonight which she did wolf down and is now settled.
maybe we just have a picky one and we have ruined her already!
Vet thought she was fine and just advised to avoid anything too fatty.

TrionicLettuce · 15/02/2016 23:44

fitflop, it's totally normal for a pup to be a bit unenthusiastic about eating for a few days after coming home. All ours have been like that but we've kept offering the dry food they were sent home with at regular intervals through the day and they soon got the idea and started eating well.

fitflopqueen · 16/02/2016 07:34

Trionic, that's reassuring, she has shown no interest in breakfast but is giddy with delight to see us and play.

Pogmella · 18/02/2016 09:08

Hello, brought our pup home yesterday. She's full of beans and has already picked up 'Sit' and takes herself off to her crate to settle if left for a few minutes, so I think she's happy enough. She sort of trembles as she exhales when sleeping though? We noticed as she likes to sleep on our feet. Is this something we should be concerned about?
Tia!

MidLifeCrisis007 · 20/02/2016 12:51

We've just picked up our puppy! He's 11 weeks old and from Many Tears Rescue. A divine jack russell/ springer cross. We've named him Loki after the God of mischief!

Our 8 week old lab x cocker joined us on monday. Toilet training going slowly but cries very little when left at night and taking very well to crate. Easily the master of our 13yo lab so mealtimes have become segregated. Naturally each thinks the other's food is best.

Feeling a bit jealous of all your house trained four legged friends. Our little pup is divine but just doesn't get the idea of pooping and weeing outside! I'm cleaning up 4-5 poonamis a day!

He's also pooing in the crate at night.... so needs a bedding change at 1am!

He can "sit" though!!!

MidLifeCrisis007 · 24/02/2016 18:39

Oh and he is eating like a horse. Always hungry......

Pippin8 · 02/03/2016 17:00

We've tried to get pippin pup in doggie daycare 1 day a week as both at work long hours. Nowhere has availability! Only one kennels with a really bad rep. Don't know what we'll do now? Any ideas?

1frenchfoodie · 02/03/2016 17:26

Would a local dog walker take pup for 1day? Or can you get assurances re the kennel with a bad rep?

Otto firmly believes poos should be dobe outside (hurrah), shame he does not feel the same about wees. 90% are done outside but only as we are eagle eyed, he rarely signals. Took him for his 10wk injections yesterday and he had Managed to put on 0.7kg in just over a week.
