Our puppy is fourteen weeks now - it's still a bit three steps forward, one hundred and sixteen steps backwards! Anyone else finding this?

Oh Fred is just gorgeous!! Is it v difficult to get a pup from rescue? I've only had a quick look but all the ones available locally were staffies

Runawayandjointhecircus · 25/01/2016 14:40

This is my pup at 4 months.

Ooh lovely Fred! Can sympathise minexpensive will chew anything in her path!

DollyMcDolly · 25/01/2016 15:08

My pup is 3 months old. Just got him on Saturday. He's a cavalier King Charles spaniel and his name is Barnaby. He's over excited all the time just now which is making training hard. I also can't take him out on a walk yet as he got his 2nd injection on Wednesday so have to wait a bit although I take him out into the garden. He hates going outside though. Really hates it. Think I'll have trouble training him tbh

Puppynamechange · 25/01/2016 15:09

Runaway, I really liked Australian Labradoodles and did look around the internet, but was a bit put off by the prices. We went for a 'mystery' lab cross instead from a rescue centre!

Tapton, we have been looking for a new dog for a while. There is a very busy animal rescue centre near us, and occasionally they have unwanted litters of puppies. We kept an eye on the website, and when Fred and his brothers were on there, we knew he was the one for us. We had to be home checked, but they knew us anyway, because we adopted two large dogs from them about eight years ago, who both died in 2015.

Puppynamechange · 25/01/2016 15:10

Gorgeous pup by the way Runaway. Smile

Puppynamechange · 25/01/2016 15:12

And Fred has a real flatulence problem. He's sleeping at my feet at the moment, and I'm nearly passing out. Grin

Aargh had a really stressful day today. The jumping up is getting worse not better. We tend to ignore her or just say off then praise when she sits. But still the jumping is relentless. With the kids she does a sort of sharky snappy thing . People keep telling me she'll calm down when she's 2!! But that seems ages away! Anyone had a jumper who's calmed down sooner (pretty please!)?

theoldlocket · 25/01/2016 18:44

Runaway ours is a jumper too, I have no tips to make them not jump but with our pup it's usually because she's so excited to see us (or any other human) so we've been really strict that she doesn't get petted or any kind of attention until she's sitting. It's working so far, although she'll sill do the jump up the first time she sees us then she realises she needs to sit in order to get attention

Crumpet1 · 25/01/2016 19:05

this is kind of what I've been doing for jumping. He still jumps a bit but I've only been doing it a couple of days.

I can never decide if a puppy is easier or harder than a child, such hard work!

Runawayandjointhecircus · 25/01/2016 19:28

Thanks that video is really helpful. I will try to give that a go. It's so hard to be consistent!

Crumpet1 · 25/01/2016 19:37

Must admit I struggle with consistency too, so hard to keep the kids in check along with a puppy, whilst making dinner for everyone. I figure as long as you do it as much as possible it's better than nothing

Roseberrry · 25/01/2016 21:22

Caravanoflove have you tried using simple solution odour destroyer on the wee spots? It gets rid of that horrible ammonia smell and should help with toilet training.

MightyMug · 25/01/2016 21:37

Loving these puppies Smile

Really struggling with the mud at the moment and I think house training may be going backwards.

How much time do your puppies spend in their crates?

dietstartsmonday · 25/01/2016 22:04

This is Jasper. He he 20 weeks now. He was 9 in this pic

Sleeps alone all night, mastered the toilet train 99% of the time now. Sits waits and lays down on command. Walks well.
Oh and he has chewed my dining table
So 3 weeks into puppy training I dread going back. He just gets so excited all the above is forgotten.

He also has stinky farts that nearly knock me out.
We wouldn't be without him though

SconeSpaniel is 22 weeks old and turning into such a lovely boy. He's already much less sharkish and I have found a couple of baby teeth around the house.

This is 9 week old doggytorres, he sleeps on his own overnight and is starting to catch on to the toilet training thing. Beyond that. He knows nothing! Other than evenings are for cuddles on the sofa.

This is my little mini schnauzer. She's 10 weeks now

I don't really understand what clicker training is, does it really work?

Also I've bought some nail clippers for her but I've tried to do them yet, should I be clipping them already, and any tips on doing it?

I'm loving the spaniels, they are definitely on my shortlist for when we get another to keep the minx company. I'm on my own this week, DH is working away, so puppy patrol falls to me. I booked a half day holiday today so I could make sure she was sorted. So far she let me sleep in til 7:15, then up & out for a walk. Back for breakfast & an hour playing. Now she's flat out in front of the fire. Hope tonight goes as smoothly.

ImBrian · 26/01/2016 19:03

After being over the moon with how house training is going he's had two weeks on the floor today Sad. I work 4 days a week so he has me/walker/parents come home on a lunch time to visit. So far no problems but today there was a puddle at lunch and when I got back home.

Do puppies regress like kids with toilet training?

On a plus point we have learnt 'wait', I can get down the hall but not out of sight yet.

SilverLining · 26/01/2016 19:16

Gorgeous puppies!! 15 weeks old today and feel like we're regressing! Been biting constantly today - tried doing the whole ignoring and walking away the dog trainer tells me to do but he just follows me gnashing his teeth..... Tell me this is just a phase????

Runawayandjointhecircus · 26/01/2016 19:29

I think the nipping thing really is a puppy phase that should pass. I'm hoping the same is true of the jumping up/ wild excitability of my puppy too!

likealaugh · 26/01/2016 19:50

My Pup is now 8 months and I'd like to send hope to all those in desperation Wink. It does get easier ,they learn to poo and wee in the right places and stop chewing and nipping . BUT. It takes a while , you have to work at it and as they get older other problems arise ! It is however ALL worth it and the hard work pays off.

SilverLining · 26/01/2016 19:51

I hope so too!! We've not had any jumping but the nipping is starting to get me down - fast asleep now though - tired himself out chasing me!!!! Hope you get some calm behaviour soon too!!!

Ridingthegravytrain · 26/01/2016 19:57

Puppytorres I spy bald puppy belly. I just wanna sniff. Dangerous territory as I've been hankering after another for a while....
