🙀🙀🙀😂😂😂
1 Amy and brain are at loggerheads over their 5 bed chalet bungalow in newtownards
scryingeyes · 04/01/2023 22:02
Missed it but will watch it on catch-up.
love the programme and imagine me and DH on it. Definitely on Phil's team!
Honeyroar · 04/01/2023 22:06
Yes I watched it. I used to watch it a lot in the USA. It was much better. I can’t get on with Phil and Kirsty presenting it.
Cherrypie32 · 04/01/2023 22:09
I didn’t warm to Amy & Brian sorry. I didn’t like the way she really hammed up the competitive element to the point that she just seemed determined to ‘win’ even if the house didn’t work for them. Bit of an odd couple. She certainly wore the trousers!
Turmerictolly · 04/01/2023 22:13
They did seem a bit odd but maybe that was the 34 year age difference I think they said. Liked their house though but felt she put her needs first.
Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 04/01/2023 22:27
I still don’t see how the house would work for them. I’d prefer to move house to be able to share a bed again with my DH. However not sure on Brian’s health issues and maybe they prefer it that way. Also the upstairs desperately needed updating but they had already gone over suggested budget and were informed they possibly wouldn’t make their money back. However they could do it up if their really not interest in moving ever.
Noseylittlemoo · 04/01/2023 22:30
I saw it. Definitely agree with @Cherrypie32 I didn't take to Amy - she did all the talking and wasn't taking no for an answer! He seemed a bit overwhelmed by the whole experience. I thought it seems quite sad that building a cupboard for his guitars was suppose to solve his issues of declining mobility around the house. Altho not very fashionable or aesthetic I thought they could have addressed practical things like whether they could install a lift/stairlift later down the line - either in the present house or a new house so that he could access all the rooms not just downstairs.
Chewbecca · 04/01/2023 22:36
It was a really weird episode. The age gap made them an unusual couple, the changes to the house didn’t really work (to me) and Phil only showed them houses that did not hit the brief and were all hugely under budget - why not spend more and get the outside space he so wanted? Weird.
Theteapotsbrokenspout · 04/01/2023 22:42
That’s exactly what I was going to say @Chewbecca Brian wanted a field and yet every house Phil showed them had a garden smaller than the one they had .
I actually felt it made quite uncomfortable viewing, Brian didn’t really seem to know what was going on and just kept repeating things when prompted by Amy.
Smidge001 · 04/01/2023 23:46
Yes a really weird episode all round. The makeover to the house was virtually nothing. Basically Kirsty just renamed the snug as a hobby room, and swapped a wall over in an L shaped room. Didn't really do anything at all! And phil's search didn't give Brian any thing he asked for. That weird cupboard at the end was awful. And Amy & Brian themselves were just a really strange couple. Was Amy from Australia/NZ? My OH reckoned she must have married him for a visa. .
WhatsitWiggle · 05/01/2023 00:12
The relationship was really strange and I found the age gap a bit creepy. I'd love to know what his kids thought 10 years ago when he returned from his cruise with this young Aussie in tow!
I thought Phil had totally missed the brief, but having looked on Rightmove, there is NOTHING with land within 30 miles, not even for a vastly increased budget - unless you go over the sea to Scotland where there was the most perfect property for under £300k 😆
tadpole39 · 05/01/2023 08:07
Twitter was hilarious during this episode. Brian got nothing of What he wanted and seemed to be trapped in the house by Amy, also couldn't understand why Phil also seemed to be ignoring him, free the Brian one!!
Meredusoleil · 05/01/2023 21:49
I agree with pp. Overall, a generally strange episode. Amy was far too OTT for my liking. Almost sugary sweet amd smiley. Brian just seemed to go along with everything. Poor guy!
Boonata · 05/01/2023 22:05
Thought it was very wierd overall.
Reminded me of an episode last series, where I thought this couple are not moving an inch regardless.
Now it's out of the way, the next episode looks like a proper one!!
jay55 · 05/01/2023 22:10
I didn't understand the whole not making their money back issue. Surely if he's lived there for 50 years, then he paid pennies for it or inherited it.
So while they wouldnt be adding to what it was currently worth, they hadn't spent the money in the first place, it's not like they'd be in negative equity.
Honeyroar · 05/01/2023 22:24
We missed the start, and presumed they were father and daughter because they were having separate rooms and living areas!

I think this is a principle that Kirsty follows in all her plans in this series; to not spend an amount that would exceed the ceiling price for the road, which would give them a fighting chance, after the alteration, of recouping their outlay if they decided to "List It" to rather than "Love It"
jay55 · 05/01/2023 23:17
I understand the usual reasoning.
But I feel if you've bought a house for 5k that's worth 300k, it's different to if you paid 250k for it when spending 40k doing it up.
Spectre8 · 05/01/2023 23:25
I guess if there were no properties that fit Brian's requirements theb they cant show nothing. So might explain why Phil showed what was available, he definitely wasn't his usual self in terms of selling the properties...probably cos its bit hard to do that when you know its not what they want. I worked as an estate agent in my younger days so I know what it's like to have to do that. Try plaster on a smile and fake it lol
BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/01/2023 07:14
34 year age difference … wonder what her parents thought of that. They’d prob be a simulate age!
Chewbecca · 06/01/2023 10:06
But if there is no property meeting the criteria in location and budget, usually he would show it out of budget or out of location or both, to make the point about the compromise needed. There must have been better properties than were shown, simply because they were all under budget, some significantly. Of course they weren't going to be worth the hassle of moving.

Another poster uptrend said they did a search and there wasn't any properties for miles and miles. Hardly going to suggest moving halfway across the country
