I was in by myself last night and wanted something easy to watch so I tried that new Murder in Benidorm series on C5. OMG - what a load of drivel. Makes Death in Paradise seem like a Dicken’s adaptation. Bad acting and ridiculous plot (and I do watch some crap!).
What was John Hannah thinking taking the lead role? I got about halfway through and turned it off & went to bed in disgust!

@Lentilcakes I didn't imagine it, honestly. I think there may be clips on YouTube, but I'm not brave enough to look.

I'm a celebrity - animal cruelty in plain sight.

Bit mean, I know they aren't exactly a list celebs but they aren't animals - and they are getting paid.

DustyMaiden · 07/08/2026 20:19

Dad’s Army and Allo Allo . Which were DHs favourite.

LlynTegid · 07/08/2026 20:21

The crime dramas mentioned are bad dramas, but they are dramas.
There is a difference with Mrs Brown's Boys, in that it is billed as a comedy, which it is not, and doing so is at best misusing the English's language.

fifySix82 · 07/08/2026 20:21

Mrs Browns boys is awful.

DrToothandtheElectricMayhem · 07/08/2026 20:24

TheChosenTwo · 06/08/2026 18:09

Haha I was outraged that no one had mentioned Mrs Brown’s Boys yet and @KnickerlessParsons saved the day!
I just loathe it, do people really watch it and laugh? I’ve only ever caught the first couple of minutes of it when it’s come on after something else and I honestly hate every second that I’ve seen, it’s as funny as stepping in dogshit.

Miranda.
Utter cringe.

DrToothandtheElectricMayhem · 07/08/2026 20:26

Has anyone said Miranda??
Utter cringey shite

DrToothandtheElectricMayhem · 07/08/2026 20:27

Dunno what happened there with the double post!

The worst for me has to be that God-awful Keith Chegwin game show thing - Naked Jungle, was it? - with Cheggers in the nip running around with his tiny todger flopping about like a skinless chipolata. Who the hell thought that was a good idea?

OMV yes! It was completely minuscule.

That knitting competition was awful I agree. I normally love stuff like that but didn’t last five minutes. I’m not really sure where it went so wrong!

I agree. It was beyond dire.

Love Island. TV made for the brain dead.

Madame Blanc Mysteries and Departure are much, much worse.

Came on to say Madam Blanc mysteries.

SpidersAreShitheads · 07/08/2026 21:05

I love a cosy murder detective show! It’s my favourite trash TV.

I love Death in Paradise, Escape from Paradise, and Beyond Paradise in that order. The main character in the Australian one grows on you a bit even though she comes across as a bit annoying at the start.

We’ve just watched the latest series of Brokenwood Mysteries - it’s set in New Zealand and a bit twee at times, but very much has the sane vibe as DiP.

There was another New Zealand one that had two women as the detectives - one is loud, brash and awful, and the other is thoughtful, restrained and clinical. I didn’t think I’d get through the first episode because the brash character was OTT and the other one seemed very performative. But I persisted and I loved it. I think they got the hang of balancing it all a bit better after the first episode - either that or else I became immune to it 😂 The second series was good too. I can’t remember what it was called!

I haven’t seen the C5 show though - but in fairness, they are usually shit.

I agree with this.

Not only is it vacuous, I think elements of it are really cruel (from what I understand happens).

It’s mean spirited and shitty entertainment - and some of the contestants have really struggled with their MH after being on it.

It’s an Australian show, and it’s called Deadloch and once you get into it after a slow start, it’s brilliant!

Shesafancyflapjack · 07/08/2026 21:17

‘The hairdresser’ daytime BBC with Sally Phillips, the wigs, plot, kooky characters, the fact they just comb the hair and mime cutting and solve crimes. It is ten times worse than Mrs Browns boys and they should all be embarrassed of themselves.

hahabahbag · 07/08/2026 21:32

Most reality shows, utter crap but I do like below deck sailing yacht Blush.

I don’t mind a cheesy whodunit, so might give Benidorm one a go, often you need 2-3 episodes to bed in

The Australian DIP is Return to Paradise. Beyond Paradise is the best IMO. Love Humphrey!

hahabahbag · 07/08/2026 21:37

@RaraRachael

sone of them direct or produce, some write or have production companies. Sally Lindsay definitely wrote and produced Madame Blanc along with the actor who plays the mechanic. The location was due to them loving Provence

Aaah yes, that’s it! I seem to have a mental block over remembering the correct names 😂

I love Humphrey but I find Martha really, really annoying. That’s why that one comes third for me.

OMG I’m getting everything wrong 😂🫣 Yes! You’re right it was Australian - of course it was!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

But yes, it’s absolutely brilliant. I was so pleased when the second series was released.
