I was in by myself last night and wanted something easy to watch so I tried that new Murder in Benidorm series on C5. OMG - what a load of drivel. Makes Death in Paradise seem like a Dicken’s adaptation. Bad acting and ridiculous plot (and I do watch some crap!).
What was John Hannah thinking taking the lead role? I got about halfway through and turned it off & went to bed in disgust!

Madame Blanc Mysteries and Departure are much, much worse.

I love M Blanc. It is good fun.

Goonie1 · 06/08/2026 19:51

El Dorado 😂

BeaLola · 06/08/2026 19:56

WitcheryDivine to quote DH who only watched 20 mins of it “I should have stopped before 5mins as I’m not getting that time back “

it was dire and I do watch some crap (to chill and unwind to after a hard day) - even John Hannah looked old and tired and I do like John Hannah (I think I heard it mentioned in the programme on radio 4 that follows The Archers

Madame Blanc is way better and you have Malta to enjoy (Malta pretending to be France) , the clip for episode 2 looks worse- it looks like lots of “faded” stars who did it for the chance to film and get a holiday (?) - at least for Death in Ostadise they get 2 weeks long haul - I think episode has Alistair McGowan and Denise Welch …..

You know how the Ferrero Rocher advert is naff but you kind of like it this was naff but soooo awful

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 06/08/2026 19:56

I love Madame Blanc! I don’t care if the acting is a bit hammy, it’s a cosy murder series with a lovely sunny backdrop and when I have other worries spinning around I find it comforting, apparently it’s one of Channel 5’s biggest successes, sold abroad as well.

Mrs Brown’s Boys

Aww, you beat me to it 😂

mtobrokeme · 06/08/2026 20:05

Benidorm closely followed by Mrs Browns Boys and Outnumbered. All 3 are about as funny as thrush.

loveagift · 06/08/2026 20:10

those game shows presented by Alexander Armstrong (most stuff presented by him) & Ben from This morning or Richard Osman. So boring, I’d rather watch a blank screen.

EmptyInTheValley · 06/08/2026 20:16

Anything to do with or called something like Rogue Traders or Scam Interceptors. Don't mind Rav Wilding but smarmy, smirking Matt Allwright really gets on my tits.

Yes, I love Steve Edge and Sally Lindsay of course.

EmptyInTheValley · 06/08/2026 20:21

Oh and the Antiques one where they kick their feet up at the end saying "Yes? Yes!" I have the misfortune to catch the end of it sometimes before the One O'clock News comes on.

Haha I was outraged that no one had mentioned Mrs Brown’s Boys yet and @KnickerlessParsons saved the day!
I just loathe it, do people really watch it and laugh? I’ve only ever caught the first couple of minutes of it when it’s come on after something else and I honestly hate every second that I’ve seen, it’s as funny as stepping in dogshit.

My DW like it has the dvds Xmas specials etc
I think I'd rather eat dog shit than watch it.
That's when I bugger off and read a book.

JesseDavisGonnaHangOnInThereNSoul · 06/08/2026 20:44

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g @ I liked mind your language but I was under 10 saw a clip recently racistAF.
Love thy neighbour another hugely popular one same as above.

RaraRachael · 06/08/2026 20:44

Anything to do with antiques or house renovations.
Plus 99% of quiz shows.

Myblueclematis · 06/08/2026 21:03

Whenever Ch 5 starts the trailers for their new drama coming soon, if it has Sally Lindsay, Jill Halfpenny or Jo Joyner in it, I don't bother with it. The ones I have seen with any of the above in the leading role, I've never lasted more than a couple of episodes.

Channel 5 is my least favourite channel to be fair though.

Middlemarch123 · 06/08/2026 21:11

Tipping Point.

Q: Name a large cat, that has four letters, the first is L and the last is N. There are two vowels in the middle.
A: Tiger.

Lentilcakes · 06/08/2026 21:18

Thanks all, gave me a good laugh! Of course Mrs Brown’s Boys and some of the other questionable programmes go without saying, but when you sit down and think you’re getting a take on Death in Paradise and get absolute drivel, it’s shocking!

I did 😂 at the Take That tribute band though!!

And yes, the Jo Joyner type dramas - usually unwatchable!

I lasted one episode of Madam Blanc - utter tripe.
However, it was better than Love Rat which has to be the most awful pile of shite I've had the misfortune of watching.
Coincidentally both starred Sally Lindsay.

I don't watch any reality shows so can't comment on those.

Aww, we have fond memories as a family about the awfulness of Love Rat. We were transfixed! There was a great thread in Telly Addicts on here.

Was that the thread about someone behind the curtain? Pauline? Thread was so funny, much better than the show. And Neil Morrisey was the perp?

'Is this the shittest attempt at a catchphrase ever?' 'Yes!' 🤪

Mrs Brown's Boys is shite, yet inexplicably always up for awards.

OP, are you saying DIP is rubbish? I've just finished watching all 15 series. Some storylines are better than others (Neville's girlfriend who turned out to be a drug dealer and murderer was completely ridiculous), but I mostly enjoyed it. I love Beyond Paradise though.

Digerydont · 06/08/2026 21:50

Chris Packham

FrostyMorn · 06/08/2026 21:55

I tried watching the Hairdresser Mysteries last week and turned over after 15 mins. Dire! Sally Phillips seems like a lovely person in real life and she was great in Alan Partridge but I can't help question her 'acting' skills - though she presumably wasn't to blame for the script...

RaraRachael · 06/08/2026 21:58

@LindorDoubleChoc I couldn't believe it when a family member posted on FB about how Love Rat was brilliant and her DiL agreed saying it was one of the best things she'd seen 🤣

They went down in my estimation after that!
