New 5 part drama starting sun 26 July and continuing Monday and week after

Ruth Madeley and India Amarteifio star in The Rapture which is adapted from Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel and made by Mammoth Screen, part of ITV Studios.

Based on Liz Jensen’s bestselling 2009 novel of the same name, The Rapture is described by the BBC as ‘a high-stakes thriller which crackles with danger’. Despite being penned almost two decades ago, fittingly for our summer so far, The Rapture unfolds during a heatwave of apocalyptic proportions, which matches freak weather patterns unfurling across the globe.

Adapted from Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel, The Rapture is a high-stakes thriller which crackles with danger. Set in a heatwave, with protestors on the streets, forensic psychologist Gabs Fox (Madeley) starts a new job at a high-security psychiatric hospital where she meets 17-year-old Bethany Krall (India Amarteifio – Queen Charlotte, The Midwich Cuckoos

Bethany was convicted of murdering her mother but claims she is innocent.

She is estranged from her father Leonard (Sam Hazeldine – The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, Slow Horses), who is the charismatic leader of an influential religious movement.

Bethany tells Gabs that she has psychic powers and can predict the future - but what will it take for Gabs to believe her?

And if Bethany didn’t kill her mother, then who did?

The cast also includes Stephen Campbell Moore (The History Boys, Masters of the Air), Lisa Palfrey (Sex Education, Cobra), Siena Kelly (Black Mirror, Domino Day), Naby Dakhli (House of David, Messiah), Richard Elis (The Pact, Creisis), Dean Rehman (The Kite Runner, Until I Kill You), Robert Rhodes (28 Years Later, House of the Dragon) and Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey, Stella).

Yes 🎉
It’s ITV, the BBC IPlayer and Channel 5 I don’t have.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/07/2026 17:20

Listened to the book as an audiobook years ago. Can't remember too much about but I do think I enjoyed it.

diddl · 22/07/2026 10:07

Sounds good.

Sam Hazeldine playing the dad now-I must be getting old!

Member984815 · 22/07/2026 14:17

This sounds promising

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/07/2026 15:19

Waiting to see a preview advert for it

Amazing cast …

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 26/07/2026 20:14

I'm hoping this is going to be good, because I have been looking forward to it, and I was looking forward to The Dark, and The Crow Girl too, and bailed after 2 episodes on both, as I wasn't enjoying them.... I don't want to have to do the same with The Rapture!

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/07/2026 21:17

Crow girl I like. Dark is harder to follow

hopefully this will be good

Blonds, just be aware that during episode two there is a scene that is triggering right at the end.
Due to lack of anything worth watching, I have seen two today.

tapdancingmum · 26/07/2026 22:00

I really enjoyed that. I recorded the dark as have been liking that as well but as it's on itv I can fast forward through the ads so can catch up in 45 minutes. Looking forward to the second episode of this.

Sameoldsameold78 · 26/07/2026 22:01

Thoughts on first episode? I think the script is quite poor and I don’t really rate Ruth Madeley as an actress.

macaroon8 · 26/07/2026 22:06

Is it scary? I can't be doing with jump scares.

Shinyandnew1 · 26/07/2026 22:13

I thought it was a good start to the series-great cast.

placemats · 26/07/2026 22:17

Very intriguing so far. Will keep watching.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/07/2026 22:37

A bit unnerving but very promising….

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 26/07/2026 22:47

Well, I did enjoy that! I love stuff like this.

Looking forward to episode 2!

Bunionbabe · 26/07/2026 23:05

I just kept thinking that Bethany's biro would have run out of ink after one of her drawings.
