New 5 part drama starting sun 26 July and continuing Monday and week after

Ruth Madeley and India Amarteifio star in The Rapture which is adapted from Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel and made by Mammoth Screen, part of ITV Studios.

Based on Liz Jensen’s bestselling 2009 novel of the same name, The Rapture is described by the BBC as ‘a high-stakes thriller which crackles with danger’. Despite being penned almost two decades ago, fittingly for our summer so far, The Rapture unfolds during a heatwave of apocalyptic proportions, which matches freak weather patterns unfurling across the globe.

Adapted from Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel, The Rapture is a high-stakes thriller which crackles with danger. Set in a heatwave, with protestors on the streets, forensic psychologist Gabs Fox (Madeley) starts a new job at a high-security psychiatric hospital where she meets 17-year-old Bethany Krall (India Amarteifio – Queen Charlotte, The Midwich Cuckoos

Bethany was convicted of murdering her mother but claims she is innocent.

She is estranged from her father Leonard (Sam Hazeldine – The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, Slow Horses), who is the charismatic leader of an influential religious movement.

Bethany tells Gabs that she has psychic powers and can predict the future - but what will it take for Gabs to believe her?

And if Bethany didn’t kill her mother, then who did?

The cast also includes Stephen Campbell Moore (The History Boys, Masters of the Air), Lisa Palfrey (Sex Education, Cobra), Siena Kelly (Black Mirror, Domino Day), Naby Dakhli (House of David, Messiah), Richard Elis (The Pact, Creisis), Dean Rehman (The Kite Runner, Until I Kill You), Robert Rhodes (28 Years Later, House of the Dragon) and Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey, Stella).

Random thought

watching Gaby drive

how does she get in/out of car and pack her wheelchair up and out in car boot etc and then get into drivers seat

I think in an early episode she got out of the chair, in to driver's seat, folded up chair and heaved it across herself into passenger well .

I think the only times we've seen the chair in the boot is when there have been two people sat in the front seats

yes i saw her heave it over herself, so i imagine that is the norm

Well !!!
What did you think of the ending.
I thought it was good.
All wrapped up nicely.
It didn’t explain those pictures though.

I'm not sure if I'm being stupid but I didn't really get the ending/explanation

Bluebellsintheforest33 · 10/08/2026 13:49

I really enjoyed this series but I wasn't thrilled with the ending. So could she predict the future or not? Why didnt her later drawings come true?

I read that the book this is based on has a different ending, with apocalyptic events. I would have much preferred that!

As I saw it, the wife was murdered by a hired killer and rogue member of the Climate Activist group because she threatened to reveal that their Choose Hope group were funded and aided technologically by the big energy company.
Leonard knew.
The MP came good.
How Bethany was able to predict and draw. things that would happen was not explained.

GrapeBiscuit · 12/08/2026 22:35

I have a similar disability and it's very easy to transfer myself into the driver's seat, fold my chair, remove the wheels and put them in the back seat then lift my wheelchair over into the front passenger seat. I then do the reverse when I reach my destination and get out of the car.

Thanks for this tho isn’t is heavy /hard to move wheels

plus I was surprised that she could drive a normal car as couldn’t feel legs

Nah, fulltime paraplegic wheelchair users like us usually buy super lightweight wheelchairs, they cost upwards of 4.5k but make life much easier so we can live independently and lift it into the car without help. It can be clunky and accidently honk the horn or bang you in the boobs. :(

We also drive with specially fitted hand controls not our legs and feet. :)

It started well, with a lot of promise. However, it didn’t live up to expectations. The ending was quite poor. The actor who played Bethany was excellent.

Slowlorissa · 20/08/2026 23:38

The ending was appalling. It made no sense.

  • why did her last two drawings not come true (her dad and the burning wheelchair)
  • did she continue to predict the future?
  • what the fuck happened to the rapture?
  • why did she forgive her own dad for leaving her to rot in a psychiatric hospital framed for murder
  • why was Gabs suddenly not into a relationship with her ideal man.

so many questions

deeahgwitch · 21/08/2026 07:57

Good points @Slowlorissa
