Bethany tells Gabs that she has psychic powers and can predict the future - but what will it take for Gabs to believe her?

Agree about her dad getting away with putting her in jail though but he thought she did do it

But the whole bloody thing was called The Rapture. It started about the potential end of the world due to climate change and ended up completely ignoring all that and abruptly ending.

I didn’t like the main actress either, she wasn’t great

What bothered me was the way the characters dressed. The temperatures are meant to be about 40°C yet they’re dressed as if it’s considerably cooler. We know from own experiences in this sweltering summer that you’d roast in the thick shirts and layers that the cast are wearing.

Well I don't know what the rest of you were watching, but I just finished it and I thought it was bloody brilliant 😅
I mean it was completely preposterous but it was gripping and exciting and I was able to completely suspend my disbelief, so it didn't matter. I loved the two main actresses too, I liked that they were both "normal" and I thought they played the characters perfectly.

Re the Rapture that never happened - I read it as all the fiery visions Bethany was getting, she misinterpreted as the end of the world, which would be pretty understandable in an overwrought teenager who'd had an ultra-religious upbringing. It worked for me anyway.

A PP asked why didn't Gabs want to have a relationship with Frasier - I think she just realised it had all got a bit much, and she was doing ok on her own or wasn't ready? I thought that was more realistic than them falling into each other's arms. I thought there was a hint of a spark between her and the journalist at the end, who I personally liked better as he was brave and had integrity. But I liked that she didn't end up with either of them - a positive ending doesn't always have to be about coupling up.

Totally agree. The TV series was really weak and fluffy compared with the book. Can only be that BBC can't contemplate a story without a happy ending. And the heatwave/climate change just seemed forgotten by the end.

The book is totally different and far better..the characterisation of the main players goes into much more depth, the actual storyline is different and builds up to a phenomenal climax. One of my favourite books!
