New 5 part drama starting sun 26 July and continuing Monday and week after

Ruth Madeley and India Amarteifio star in The Rapture which is adapted from Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel and made by Mammoth Screen, part of ITV Studios.

Based on Liz Jensen’s bestselling 2009 novel of the same name, The Rapture is described by the BBC as ‘a high-stakes thriller which crackles with danger’. Despite being penned almost two decades ago, fittingly for our summer so far, The Rapture unfolds during a heatwave of apocalyptic proportions, which matches freak weather patterns unfurling across the globe.

Adapted from Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel, The Rapture is a high-stakes thriller which crackles with danger. Set in a heatwave, with protestors on the streets, forensic psychologist Gabs Fox (Madeley) starts a new job at a high-security psychiatric hospital where she meets 17-year-old Bethany Krall (India Amarteifio – Queen Charlotte, The Midwich Cuckoos

Bethany was convicted of murdering her mother but claims she is innocent.

She is estranged from her father Leonard (Sam Hazeldine – The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, Slow Horses), who is the charismatic leader of an influential religious movement.

Bethany tells Gabs that she has psychic powers and can predict the future - but what will it take for Gabs to believe her?

And if Bethany didn’t kill her mother, then who did?

The cast also includes Stephen Campbell Moore (The History Boys, Masters of the Air), Lisa Palfrey (Sex Education, Cobra), Siena Kelly (Black Mirror, Domino Day), Naby Dakhli (House of David, Messiah), Richard Elis (The Pact, Creisis), Dean Rehman (The Kite Runner, Until I Kill You), Robert Rhodes (28 Years Later, House of the Dragon) and Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey, Stella).

And the characters are wearing full length jeans and full sleeves which no one would do in 40 degree heat. Not a single wiped brow either. It’s poor directing.

That’s exactly what I thought. Small things like that made it so irritating (along with the completely unlikeable characters)!

i enjoyed this, found it engrossing - however binge watched the final two and became confused.
the ending was odd but on the whole it was a good watch

Re the ending being odd and you being confused I hope @MrsLargeEmbodied that I won’t say at the end well that’s so many hours of my life wasted. 🤞

Shinyandnew1 · 02/08/2026 21:57

Enjoying it still, but really hoping it won’t be like so many 6-parters where 1-5 are brilliant but the ending is crap!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/08/2026 22:27

Not sure what to make of todays

New bf seems a bit controlling over the board

I agree.
Did he deliberately set out to be involved with her for reasons yet to be revealed or is it just a side story ????

Indigovelvet · 03/08/2026 10:31

Finished it in one sitting yesterday. It entertained me!

Recklessismymiddlename · 03/08/2026 10:48

Random thought

watching Gaby drive

how does she get in/out of car and pack her wheelchair up and out in car boot etc and then get into drivers seat

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/08/2026 23:28

Seems it’s so easy to escape - reminded me of bad girls and in the laundry

why does she need to be barefoot in a field to be able to draw

and can we trust bf

The book, The Rapture, is totally different to the series and far superior. The book is one of my favourite books and I was so disappointed in the weak and inferior altered adaptation. Total downgrade of a fantastic book. (IMO)

at one stage the wheelchair was n the front seat which makes sense, but at another stage she was accompanied in the car and left to get out by herself. not showing how

To be close to the earth/nature and tap
into its energy.

Even with front seat how would she life’s wheelchair onto seat and then shuffle herself over

and same getting out - lift and open outside passenger door - or heave over steering wheel - not possible as too big and heavy / so it’s her side

or yes if in the boot that cant happen

a family member is in a wheelchair but has had a larger car adapted and front seat removed and gets into car via ramp at back

Has Gabs been played ?
It’s certainly holding my attention and oh my did my heart rate go up during the escape scenes !!!

Shinyandnew1 · 04/08/2026 15:07

Played by who? Bethany?

deeahgwitch · 04/08/2026 15:18

Well that’s what she said (iirc) at the end of last night’s episode when she couldn’t be found.
