Anyone watched this?

I feel like her parents made excuses for everything she did - felt like she was used to getting everything she wanted.

@LyndaSnellsSniff I don’t think that girl knows where ‘performing’ for ‘content’ ends and the real her begins.
Perhaps her parents are the same?

ilbehonest · 02/06/2026 07:40

The way her friend described they abruptly got up and decided to leave at 5am makes me think they were arguing and in a fit of rage crashed the car. She says she doesn't remember anything and I think it's common for people to erase trauma as a response to their body not wanting to face what happened so that bit I do believe but I think she is guilty and she regrets it so is spinning the "idk what happened" line.

What’s the evidence that she checked the route out? She may have driven that route two weeks earlier as that’s the route to her boyfriends house, or a common route to take in her area.

From what I've seen and heard about this case, it was an obscure route out of their way

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 20/05/2026 23:45

How did they translate it if it was pure gibberish?

It was one of those playground languages. A police officer over heard them and it wasn't difficult to crack the code

SuzeBr · 02/06/2026 15:46

Well she definitely was responsible for the deaths of the other 2 passengers.

didnt buy the POTS defence.

she seemed an awful person who bullied others and was very grandiose. She also appeared to lack empathy, remorse or any sensitivity

parents were also awful and played a part in encouraging smoking weed and for her not taking any responsibility for her actions.

i don’t know if she intended to kill the passengers and herself not enough evidence for me to tell but whatever she was thinking she purposely put her foot on the pedal and never braked

MyTrivia · 03/06/2026 11:21

Mackenzie Shirilla definitely has some sort of cluster B personality disorder imo. A direct result of how she was raised by her useless, simp, enabling parents who’ve told her she’s the most beautiful girl in the world, her entire life.

This is exactly what happens when you raise your child in a way that stops them from taking accountability for their actions.

Totally agree. NPD without a doubt.

I think the mum was trying to insinuate that Davian’s life didnt matter as much as he was black. Did anyone else get that impression?

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 04/06/2026 07:37

I thought it was more because of the fact that he was a ‘new’ friend, and (according to her logic), he shouldn’t have been in the car, in the first place.

So she didn’t know him as well as her daughter’s dickhead boyfriend, and couldn’t have cared less whether he lived or died.

I’m glad the judge picked up on that.

But, i dunno…

Yes, she didn't really care about Davian as he was a "new friend" and not someone they knew

Chocolattcoffeecup · 04/06/2026 08:22

Different take on this. I wondered whether the mum meant something else as saying he didn't matter as much is just diabolical and I almost can't believe someone would say this let along think it. The judge made the point that she was hearing about Mackenzie and not the victims and she said he was a new friend, by which I wonder if she meant she couldn't say much as she didn't know him. I still think it's a very poor response but I wonder what she actually meant.

Saying that, other things she's said suggest she may well have meant this!

The dad has pretty much explicitly said this in another interview. He said that if he was the only one in the car, the case would never have got past juvenile court, and his daughter would be free. He said his daughter is in jail because her bf was from a powerful political family in the area. Absolutely appalling and disgusting the way they think

I agree. I thought it was pretty clear that is what she meant.

GlitchStitch · 04/06/2026 14:38

The Netflix show missed quite a lot of stuff out. I imagine this was probably agreed in order for Mackenzie and her parents to agree to be on the show.

One theory about Davion is that he and Dom had become very close friends and was taking him away from Mackenzie in her mind, as well as being in Dom's ear a bit about how toxic she was. The Mean Girl Murders episode goes into much more detail about her behaviour and personality- bullying, jealousy and possessiveness, with former school friends being interviewed.

Also at last count she has received 33 upheld disciplinary complaints in prison so far, so she doesn't have a hope in hell of getting paroled in 15 years.

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 04/06/2026 15:45

Has anyone else mentioned her completely different way of speaking post incarceration?

At first I wondered who this softly spoken new person, with the strong southern drawl was?

I did think she was putting on some strange new accent tbh.

Chocolattcoffeecup · 05/06/2026 07:48

I didn't notice the accent thing!

My concern is she will be coached to show remorse when she doesn't actually have any and get parole that way.

fartotheleftside · 05/06/2026 07:54

I thought the mum was saying Davion was a new friend because she was trying to explain that Mackenzie had no motive for wanting to kill him.

hellobaby24 · 05/06/2026 12:12

Just watched this. Wow her parents were awful! What chance did she have with parents like that, they’ve ended up raising a sociopath who killed two people.

To be fair all the friend group seemed awful. All into drugs. Dom was clearly a drug dealer his mum seemed enabling of his behaviour too. Not that that makes it ok he died.

Not a chance of that as they have all her jail phone calls, she has zero fucks to give.

Well the problem is that the entire Shirilla clan has shown themselves to be tone deaf and delusional so maybe that’s why the judge took her comment that way.

HangryBrickShark · 06/06/2026 03:37

The pre-frontal cortex—the part of the brain responsible for impulse control and assessing consequences—does not fully mature until a person is in their mid-twenties. This is why there are so many deaths on the roads with young people driving quite often an overloaded car full of teens most whom don't wear seat belts. Its a combination of lack of immaturity, lack of impulse control and peer pressure which is on the form of showing off. This is spoken with the experience of seeing a friend lose her 15yr old son to a car accident with his 15 year old driver girlfriend who survived because she had a seat belt and he did not. So very, very tragic and sad.

MyTrivia · 06/06/2026 04:01

Well I agree with you but I think there’s a lot of evidence that she did this on purpose, including the fact that she previously threatened to crash the car.

Even if this is true, it doesn't mean she didn't do it on purpose and it doesn't mean there shouldn't be consequences.
