New 8 part drama for a Saturday night

The drama stars Jessica Raine (The Devil's Hour, Patrick Melrose), Damien Molony (Bergerac, Brassic), Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor, Still Up), Nicholas Pinnock (For Life, The Book of Clarence), Leila Farzard (Kaos, I Hate Suzie) and Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, Fleabag).

Written and created by Catherine Shepherd (‘Sally4Ever', ‘The Shrink Next Door'), ‘Two Weeks in August' follows the story of a woman who goes on holiday with her family and friends to rediscover joy in her life.

But, here in paradise, what starts with an illicit kiss quickly turns the dream vacation into a nightmare

The synopsis continues: "Zoe begins to act on her deepest desires and the holiday she hoped for becomes a reckoning for a group of adults who refuse to grow up.

old wounds are re-opened, sending the group in a chaotic spiral that soon begins to snowball, threatening to upend each of their lives in unexpected

When they discover they are trapped on the island, and become faced with real life-or-death situations, the group soon turn on each other to find out who is to blame.

Is Zoe responsible for the drama and destruction around her or, as heaven turns to hell, are bigger forces at play?

We are in Greece after all, the land of the ancient Gods…

Leading star Jessica said "the big question of the series is how the audience is going to respond to a character like Zoe".

"The decisions she makes to get what she wants, and the consequences because of that," continued the actress.

"The idea of a woman deciding not to sacrifice everything, of choosing to put herself first, unfortunately still feels revolutionary.

I think every woman feels that, and that’s what I think will appeal.

The weird couple that live there are annoying as well. At least they have managed to dodge them so far.
Not sure why Zoe is continuing to stay there really.
The children are mostly neglected and that fish bbq looked rank. I am shocked they were not ill.

I watched episode 1 on i-player this afternoon.
I'm curious to see how the story develops.

Agreed that fish looked disgusting when frozen and even worse after being cooked. I did wonder if everyone would end up poisoned, making a source reveal necessary.

SwedishEdith · 24/05/2026 15:06

I didn't understand who was paying for the fish thing? When main woman offered that they would make the dinner, was there an agreement about how they'd all chip in? I'd be pissed off if it all fell to me but why didn't they speak up and clarify that? Or did they and I missed it? In reality, she'd have posted on here beforehand about the trip and it would have been suggested that they agreed about costs for food before the start of the holiday.

This is all reinforcing my fears about why I would never want to go away in a big group like this.

the80sweregreat · 24/05/2026 15:10

I was waiting for the fish food poisoning to kick in, but it didn’t. I was shocked!

Fransgran · 24/05/2026 16:46

I surprised myself by enjoying it. I didn't think I would, as I really went off Jessica Raine by the time she quit Call The Midwife. Also don't like Tom Goodman-Hill although he's well suited to the sneery types he plays. I know I'm getting personal/professional areas confused but I'm too old to care

Teabag37 · 24/05/2026 18:53

Found it a bit channel fivey but with better actors.....not really enjoying it

Annoyingly I missed the last thing Zoe said when she was standing in the doorway confronting the 'kisser'!!
Then the credits rolled....
Can anyone help please?

She says, "I think I would like to swap rooms" 😁

At last she has the power in her hands! after all that automatic people-pleasing "putting a bright face" on everything.

I think it's brilliant, so funny! all these self-absorbed, virtue-signalling, superficial friends who loathe each other or don't really notice each other, all gathered together in awkward situations and being utterly unable to open up.

Beachtastic · 24/05/2026 19:22

I'm just watching the start of episode 3 and I think Zoe's character arc is a bit like Walter White in Breaking Bad. I'm guessing she goes from people-pleaser to "I AM THE ONE WHO KNOCKS!" - but have to wait and see...

RamsaySnowsSausage · 24/05/2026 19:39

Only one more episode to go and I'm really enjoying it. They're all flawed people, some more than others, but it's compelling and intriguing. Really funny in places too - the "tense" scenes, where everyone has different secrets, are more amusing that tense because there isn't really anyone to specifically root for.

I definitely think it would have benefitted from being trimmed down a bit but it's not a massive issue - probably my broken attention span.

Good acting and beautiful scenery. Particularly immersive to watch the heatwave scenes in this weather!

Meredusoleil · 24/05/2026 21:07

Just watching episode 1. Jesus that French nanny needs to be fired. Why are they putting up with her?!?

And is that man actually gay and invited his gay lover to come and stay with his wife and friends?

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/05/2026 21:07

Looks like only one episode (3) next sat

They are all such horrible people with more money than sense it would seem. Except the main character who needs to start saying no a bit more.

Yes, he’s gay (is there an indication to you he isn’t?) but didn’t directly invite Will to the holiday.

Meredusoleil · 24/05/2026 21:10

That possibly gay husband was in Mamma Mia 2 as one of Donna's young lovers in Paris I think?

I'm confused. Isn't the gorgeous dark haired woman his wife? And she knows about this?

No, that’s his best friend (Nat).

No, that’s his best friend (Nat).

Oh I see. That makes more sense now. Thank you!

So Zoe is just going to let her husband be stung by a scorpion due to kissing her friend under the influence of drugs?!?

Who was that old woman holding the rope when Zoe was tripping?

Why don't any of these people actually talk properly about anything and communicate with each other? It's all so fake and superficial ffs.

Beachtastic · 24/05/2026 21:29

Isn't that just Mumsnet conveyed neatly in one character?! 😜

I think it's hilarious

TheAmberStork · 24/05/2026 21:34

I really enjoyed it! Being of a similar age I've definitely been on the receiving end of some of these self absorbed conversations...the single woman who insists on dissecting the snog..swears she won't tell anyone then blabs and blames the wife 😄 also patronising refugee comments... and endless dietary conversations... maybe the people who don't like it are the protagonists 😉

SabrinaThwaite · 24/05/2026 22:01

The Greek Myths book is a thread in the story (quite literally) - The Fates, one who spins the thread of life, one who measures its length, and one who cuts it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/05/2026 22:53

@Meredusoleil I wondered that but seems may be a halucation via drugs

Maybe. But it looked like the same scorpion she saw on the window ledge before she took any drugs.

Also, that strange old lady holding the rope when she was tripping on the drugs looked like she had scorpion like claws for hands.

I wonder if this is all a foreshadowing that

Meredusoleil · 24/05/2026 22:59

Is pointing to Zoe becoming a scorpion with a sting in her tail?

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/05/2026 23:00

Well he deserves to be stung

Well he deserves to be stung

I agree. He's a right misery guts.

How does everyone know he is depressed and tried to kill himself? All I gathered was that he got injured in the leg from a car accident?
