New 8 part drama for a Saturday night

The drama stars Jessica Raine (The Devil's Hour, Patrick Melrose), Damien Molony (Bergerac, Brassic), Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor, Still Up), Nicholas Pinnock (For Life, The Book of Clarence), Leila Farzard (Kaos, I Hate Suzie) and Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, Fleabag).

Written and created by Catherine Shepherd (‘Sally4Ever', ‘The Shrink Next Door'), ‘Two Weeks in August' follows the story of a woman who goes on holiday with her family and friends to rediscover joy in her life.

But, here in paradise, what starts with an illicit kiss quickly turns the dream vacation into a nightmare

The synopsis continues: "Zoe begins to act on her deepest desires and the holiday she hoped for becomes a reckoning for a group of adults who refuse to grow up.

old wounds are re-opened, sending the group in a chaotic spiral that soon begins to snowball, threatening to upend each of their lives in unexpected

When they discover they are trapped on the island, and become faced with real life-or-death situations, the group soon turn on each other to find out who is to blame.

Is Zoe responsible for the drama and destruction around her or, as heaven turns to hell, are bigger forces at play?

We are in Greece after all, the land of the ancient Gods…

Leading star Jessica said "the big question of the series is how the audience is going to respond to a character like Zoe".

"The decisions she makes to get what she wants, and the consequences because of that," continued the actress.

"The idea of a woman deciding not to sacrifice everything, of choosing to put herself first, unfortunately still feels revolutionary.

I think every woman feels that, and that’s what I think will appeal.

Annoyingly I missed the last thing Zoe said when she was standing in the doorway confronting the 'kisser'!!
Then the credits rolled....
Can anyone help please?

drspouse · 23/05/2026 22:47

Just watched. Not sure if everyone is supposed to be very real and you're supposed to feel sorry for them or if it's all White Lotus and they are the holidaymakers you love to hate.

I just watched the first 2 episodes. Thought most of them were quite annoying in a way. Glad the wife is getting more fiesty!

daffodilandtulip · 23/05/2026 23:59

Only watched episode one. Seems a bit weird and not sure of the point yet but I’m interested to carry on.

Think it was the 'shrooms.

Back21970 · 24/05/2026 00:18

It gets better - I was a bit underwhelmed by the first episode but have just finished the 3rd.

No spoilers but I’d say stick with it!

Shadesofscarlett · 24/05/2026 00:23

deffo feels a bit White Lotusy to me - am quite enjoying it.

and love Zoe trading up for the nicer bedroom

don’t tell my husband

as the rest of the friends know , sure he will find out very soon

I was trying to work out where I'd seen the actress that plays the cheating wife. Google tells me she was in The Good Doctor, so that's it.
There are a lot of references to the Greek mythology book that the main woman keeps reading to her kids, a bit scary! I'm getting bad vibes!

the80sweregreat · 24/05/2026 09:11

I keep seeing Jacob as Will from W1A!
I am finding this intriguing and not sure what will happen. The husband is possibly bi polar , or only happier because Jess kissed him..
Zoe and Dan have a lot of problems because he couldn’t work after the accident and poor in comparison to the other friends, which is hard. Not sure why they went and spending money they don’t have with people they don’t like much. I think many would cut their losses and go home tbh.

fundamentallyauthentic · 24/05/2026 09:12

I’ve watched the first episode and enjoyed it. I thought the writing for the Damien Molony character was particularly well done - the dynamic with him and his wife was well observed and him complaining on holiday about the cost of everything - very credible.

I have no idea where any of this is going and I like it.

JulesJules · 24/05/2026 09:21

We watched the first two episodes after reading the review by Lucy Mangan
https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/may/23/two-weeks-in-august-review-jessica-raine?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
and enjoying it so far - looking forward to the main character abandoning her "people pleasing" and totally losing her shit with her whiny husband and irritating friends. I like the creepy Greek mythology bits, and the setting is beautiful (actually filmed on Gozo). However, I'm not sure about 8 episodes.

Two Weeks in August review – Jessica Raine is extraordinary in this exquisite look at a holiday from hell

Drugs, sex, scorpions, breakdowns … a summer trip in Greece goes diabolically wrong in the BBC’s immaculate new show that will give you a well-earned break from bad TV

the80sweregreat · 24/05/2026 09:30

Jacob’s on / off boyfriend is annoying me as well.
He is using him. They are all very unlikeable.

SwedishEdith · 24/05/2026 10:09

They're all extremely unlikeable. I'm finding it slightly implausible that the main character would still be friends with the two other women let alone bring her family on holiday with them all. No one seems to really play with the kids. They just bounce on beds or whack each with pool inflatables. They make no actual noise or shout "Mummy/daddy, look at me!" all the time. The French nanny is a complete cliché. I'm vaguely intrigued by that weird, supercilious couple they keep bumping into. I will watch it all though.

the80sweregreat · 24/05/2026 10:16

The weird couple that live there are annoying as well. At least they have managed to dodge them so far.
Not sure why Zoe is continuing to stay there really.
The children are mostly neglected and that fish bbq looked rank. I am shocked they were not ill.

the80sweregreat · 24/05/2026 10:20

It’s eight parts , so I do think it may drag or have a filler episode where nothing much happens.
i wonder why they couldn’t film on Greece and only on Malta.

fundamentallyauthentic · 24/05/2026 10:25

The weird couple are played by two well known actors (one of them played by Jessica Raine’s husband) so they’ll be featuring later on.

I hope we find out later how the characters know each other because so far I agree it’s a bit implausible why they’re all together.

deeahgwitch · 24/05/2026 10:31

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/05/2026 22:23

The gf of the bloke with the leg accident is annoying. She doesn’t seem to understand or support her man and his accident

I haven’t finished the first episode but I think she is really trying to make the most of the situation they are in and be positive.
She has lived with him and his depression and the fact that he failed in his effort to take his own life. That he was prepared to do that.
That is a very difficult situation to be in. She is trying to hold everything together for them and the vulnerable children.

@Blondeshavemorefun I know you will know more about this than me. 💐

Oasisinthearea · 24/05/2026 10:41

Think I’m on ep 3 (or 4). Really enjoying it

fundamentallyauthentic · 24/05/2026 10:42

@deeahgwitch I agree. And that’s why they’re on holiday even though they can’t afford it, she knows they both need a break.

the80sweregreat · 24/05/2026 11:42

I read that they know each other from Uni.
Jess got together with Solomon at a later date , so she didn’t know them. He was married before , so I assume they did know his old partner.

RedRiverShore6 · 24/05/2026 12:29

I have watched 5 episodes and it gets better but it's a bit of a poor man's White Lotus. I thought there was 6 episodes but realise there are 8, not sure that is a good thing.
