New 8 part drama for a Saturday night

The drama stars Jessica Raine (The Devil's Hour, Patrick Melrose), Damien Molony (Bergerac, Brassic), Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor, Still Up), Nicholas Pinnock (For Life, The Book of Clarence), Leila Farzard (Kaos, I Hate Suzie) and Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, Fleabag).

Written and created by Catherine Shepherd (‘Sally4Ever', ‘The Shrink Next Door'), ‘Two Weeks in August' follows the story of a woman who goes on holiday with her family and friends to rediscover joy in her life.

But, here in paradise, what starts with an illicit kiss quickly turns the dream vacation into a nightmare

The synopsis continues: "Zoe begins to act on her deepest desires and the holiday she hoped for becomes a reckoning for a group of adults who refuse to grow up.

old wounds are re-opened, sending the group in a chaotic spiral that soon begins to snowball, threatening to upend each of their lives in unexpected

When they discover they are trapped on the island, and become faced with real life-or-death situations, the group soon turn on each other to find out who is to blame.

Is Zoe responsible for the drama and destruction around her or, as heaven turns to hell, are bigger forces at play?

We are in Greece after all, the land of the ancient Gods…

Leading star Jessica said "the big question of the series is how the audience is going to respond to a character like Zoe".

"The decisions she makes to get what she wants, and the consequences because of that," continued the actress.

"The idea of a woman deciding not to sacrifice everything, of choosing to put herself first, unfortunately still feels revolutionary.

I think every woman feels that, and that’s what I think will appeal.

Seems ok to me so far

tho the bedroom via the toilet is weird

Toilet via bedroom not bedroom via toilet!

Why are you annoyed with both of them? The boyfriend is a bit of a childish prick (at the birthday party) but then that's one of the things I like about this series, it's so well-observed.

I'm annoyed as the young bloke is just using Jacob and they obviously have completely different outlooks on life based on their little convo about marriage. I didn't like the way he was trying to convince Jacob that it was OK for Dan to have kissed Jess when they are supposed to be in committed relationships (married).

I think Jacob should tell him to pass off really. But Nat is doing a good job of making him see for himself.

Also hated the way Nat spread the word of the kiss. They are all horrible people really and I can't warm to any of them atm.

Piss off not pass off. Won't let me edit 😬

The villa was built for the series, then dismantled. I wonder if the big house where the expats live is real?

the80sweregreat · Today 08:47

We seem to be roaming into some spoilers on here ( saw one referenced below)
Might be a good idea for someone to start a spoiler thread on telly maybe ?

I warmed to them all by the end- even Jess fleetingly!

How many epsiodes have already aired on TV? I'm watching on iplayer and have watched 1&2 so far.

Dr0pkick · Today 08:54

Don’t want to give any spoilers but I felt liking characters was a key theme, kind of turned on its head by the end.

So do they air 2 epsiodes every Saturday then? I will wait to comment again if so, as will probably watch those epsiodes before Saturday.

the80sweregreat · Today 09:01

Think it’s on Saturday nights, not sure. Eight seems a lot of episodes ! Most are only six usually.

fundamentallyauthentic · Today 09:03

It’s essentially a typical six hour drama but each episode is 45 minutes, not 60.

the80sweregreat · Today 09:08

Ahh, yes, it’s only 45 minutes long.

It is good though , I like the mix of characters. Especially boat man !

the80sweregreat · Today 09:10

It’s filmed in Gozo, never been to Malta , but that part looks a bit barren in places . It is nice seeing different locations in these dramas.

the80sweregreat · Today 09:15

It’ll probably be moved around the schedules for football I bet!

We were in Malta for a few hours last summer and really like it. Gozo is supposed to be a lot less touristy and more unspoilt from what I have heard.

deeahgwitch · Today 09:23

Why do some tv series nowadays get shown as 2 separate episodes, on the same night, shown consecutively when they could just be one hour long episode ?

MrsCarmelaSoprano · Today 09:23

I quite liked it but I hate it when filming locations aren't actually where it's set. As soon as it started I thought it was a fun y looking Greek island then googled and found out why.

BabaJaeger · Today 09:23

oooh I'm really enjoying this! it's a bit daft, but it's fun

(maybe that should be it's a bit daft, AND it's fun??)

do love a bit of 'rich people being awful' telly

also: isn't Hugh Skinner in Fleabag? sensitive boyfriend who's trying to have a deep convo with her and catches her wanking over Obama?

the80sweregreat · Today 09:30

Hugh skinner has been in lots of things. He is funny , I liked him as Will in W1A.

BabaJaeger · Today 09:32

also. the bit with the fish. they signposted: oh look, these terrible people are all going to get horrible food poisoning about 90 times, from the second they took the manky fish out of the manky freezer

and then

noone got food poisoning. the food was just shit

...I liked that

the80sweregreat · Today 09:36

None of them ate the fish much. Not sure what the kids had either.

I think it's so they can be sold to commercial channels abroad. With adverts, an hour slot is really only 45 minutes of film. But 45 minutes is too short for us if used to watching BBC dramas so they show two episodes. I think.
