What are your thoughts on Amandaland?
I really tried to like it. I really did.
but for me it just isn’t as good as motherland. I just don’t think the characters are distinctive enough to really stand out and identify with like in motherland. But I gave see on a few thread and fab groups that people like Amandaland and it’s just as good.

I suppose the footie ( where they all looked cold !) is to replace the usual pub setting or an office. The characters have to go somewhere. In motherland it was the table not too close to the toilets most of the time at the cafe.

I liked S 1, but S2 is not as good.
Love Amanda, her mum and Anne, but bored by Mal, JJ, Fi and Della. Too many scenes watching football and too much of the dull kids.

Did love Amanda vs Vantablack!

I’ve just finished series 2 and I enjoyed it more than series 1.

the80sweregreat · 07/05/2026 18:10

I really enjoyed it all as some lightweight inoffensive comedy. It didn’t always get it right , but it was amusing and I do love her mum and how she gets out of a tight spot! She is funny.

She's just helping out! It's a bit of a plot device, in real life parents probably wouldn't be so involved in their kid's secondary school (particularly when, in Anne's case, she has other younger kids), but obviously they don't want to keep introducing teachers and other minor characters into the show, so it's easier to have established characters like Anne practically running the Careers Week

Ok. It was just a bit weird. Thought I'd missed something. I didn't understand how a non teacher was running it...she seemed like one of the staff.

The poor kids cringing at their parents 😅 I did one once at my son's school though don't think I embarrassed him too much. It was primary school and I just sat at a desk and answered questions.

the80sweregreat · 07/05/2026 18:21

Anna has hidden talents, but Amanda just ends up raining on her parade most of the time :(

topcat2026 · 07/05/2026 20:13

Enjoying it on the whole after four episodes but JJ is boring me, as is Mal and his equally dull son.

Anne / Philippa Dunne has lost a lot of weight and looks fabulous.

I love the new series - better than the first!

I agree! I really didn’t like the first so I was on the fence about starting this one but it was brilliant

There was a lot of football scenes but I guess they were just trying to recreate the school gates

Sandysandybeaches · 07/05/2026 21:33

It’s great! Amusing and doesn’t take its self seriously. Amanda reminds of people know and Ann is fab. I’m like the new woman too and Joanna Lumely 💕. I prefer to motherland which I always found a bit depressing, this is lighter and sillier - a good thing imo.

We did see Paul but in small snatches usually at a stag boat party or go karting aka not looking after his kids.

Yes! And always on the phone to Julia, explaining just why he couldn’t get home to do anything practical to help.

I'm not getting the episode in the new series when she appears to be employed at the school as a teacher...or is she just helping out..?

I didn't remember her being a teacher before. I thought she was just helping the kids with homework (badly) because she had a degree in science or something. I don't remember.

Like pp said ...she had a previous high flying job for glaxo Smith Klein or something.

Yes she used to be head of Product Development at GSK Worldwide.

”Why are you not getting this?” was part of Anne’s rant when she went off the deep end after failing to enthuse the teens at her extra Maths sessions!

bornwithhorns · 08/05/2026 00:25

I binged it last night and loved it , I adore Anne and Joanna Lumley refusing to admit anything ageing at all 🤣I prefer it to motherland , my fave character in that was Meg I didn’t like Julia at all.
bring back Johannes though he was hilarious !

myladyjane · 08/05/2026 07:54

I have binged. I loved seeing Garry the builder again. Nice touch. I really warmed to Amanda in the condom one with the kids. I also liked the prom bit - I know my 16 yr old wants to do big stuff with her mates not me and that’s exactly as it should be but also it’s allowed to feel a bit bittersweet.

i am not sure about the abs, jj, mal thing - i preferred season 1 thing jj being a bit in awe/not sure how to deal with Mal. Was Abs meant to be the Liz type acerbic one? Also don’t jj and abs have a small child?

topcat2026 · 08/05/2026 09:00

Finished it, made me laugh lots of times which is unusual for a comedy. The actors in this are just so good and I would have ideally liked to have seen more of Siobhán McSweeney, but she was doing a play when this was being filmed.

If there’s a third series, I hope they explore the frisson between Mal and Amanda, and reduce the screen time of Ned and bin off JJ (a character who is unfunny and wholly unnecessary).

mycheeseplantiscalledcharles · 08/05/2026 10:53

Loved the first few episodes of Motherland, but thought Liz/Kevin/Anne were very over-egged. I really liked Julia and feel she's the most likely one to be in Amanda's circle realistically. Kev's acting was awful, as was Johannes and his fake S. African accent.
Love Amanda on her own, not so keen on Anne still. I'm not getting the Fi/Della contribution. I know an Amanda IRL so it's so relatable for me. Her children are not got fits though.

tinyspiny · 08/05/2026 10:57

I enjoyed it , light and generally inoffensive. I liked the introduction of Abs . Anne needs a spin off of her own as this doesn’t give enough time with her and her family .

Yeah where are her twins and baby, now toddler or 3 or 4 years old Niamh?!

Or asking advice on Xmas present for her or his mum?!

Yeah they can’t be picking up the kids from school as teens can they?!

I bloody love Anne, she is the best character, always underestimated by Amanda. She thought she used to work at Greggs when she really worked as head of media at Glaxo Smithkline. I love her happy Mammy too.

I think it was head of product development.

Newsenmum · 08/05/2026 17:30

How common is it for these mums to take cocaine? Is it seriously a thing?

Duckswaddle · 08/05/2026 18:10

I enjoyed it. Loved seeing Pam Ferris 🥰

Sillybillymillyvanilly · 08/05/2026 21:45

I’m loving it! Loved motherland too. I also have a huge crush on Mal, hee hee.
