What are your thoughts on Amandaland?
I really tried to like it. I really did.
but for me it just isn’t as good as motherland. I just don’t think the characters are distinctive enough to really stand out and identify with like in motherland. But I gave see on a few thread and fab groups that people like Amandaland and it’s just as good.

I also liked series 2 more. Interesting how only Anne's son is shown out of her family. I think it'd ruin it if her husband was shown.
I get the impression Della is going to be away in series 3, but that goes along with her workaholic image. I like Fi though as she has more of a relationship with the other characters, and I also like Bobby the dog

I prefer Amandaland.

I’ve met a few Julia’s , but maybe not as badly organized. A lot of her problems were because her mum didn’t want to do it all for her and wanted her life back. She didn’t have a clue what to do then.

Her problems were largely because her husband was a waste of space.

And also that she did nothing about it.

Instead of addressing any of the problems with her husband she used to simper and make a joke of his uselessness before dumping her problems on other women - her mother, Amanda, Liz, Anne or sometimes Kevin. She also used them whilst looking down at all of them and bitching about them. She was particularly unpleasant about her mother having the temerity to decline the “opportunity” to continue being full time free childcare. Perhaps she would have been more likeable as a single parent with proper arrangements in place, as it was I found her a massively unlikeable user - just like her husband. I liked Motherland but I don’t miss the self absorbed Julia.

Amandaland is a different show - I’ve just watched season two and enjoyed it (bar the Christmas special) - but its humorous rather than belly laughs. I love Lumley as the “bad” character as she manages selfish, self absorbed but sympathetic so much better than AMM. I do miss Liz in particular, perhaps she will move to SoHa for sixth form.

I think Della worked better as a visiting character. Her character is so big it can dominate episodes whereas a remote character joining for some episodes worked quite well I thought.

I’m happy to see a third series, if Liz and Meg moved to SoHa as the eldest all go into Sixth From I’d be even happier. I liked Kevin but he was a bit limited as a character.

Della is my least favourite character. Too grumpy, too arsey, and not funny.

Finally finished it last night. Is very good and fills a whole. Not overly keen on Della. Too try hard I think. Like Fi. Abs is great. Joanna Lumley is fantastic. Amanda is more rounded now. Mal is shaping up as a promising character. Anne pregnant- genius. It works as a whole. I think to add Liz now while I’d love it may spoil the new balance.,,

I agree it was much funnier.

Do we know why anne moved
to SoHa btw? She was a sahm and sounds like she started work again and kids are now teens so why leave the fancy area from before?

I don’t think Anne was a sahm - maybe she was on maternity leave or part time or something cos she said she was global head of marketing for a pharmaceutical company. That made me howl as shes so timid around Amanda so was a great twist

Sounds like he is excellent at playing useless husbands

he was excellent in Bluestone 42
he was the captain so may have been lazy sitting round giving out orders

Indeed. I think the character development is better in Amandaland and I find it warmer and more realistic. Motherland was based more on embarrassment/shock type humour and you find yourself constantly appalled yet amused whereas I actually like the characters in Motherland!

When Della etc were all lying on the bed and the dog farted I think is one of my favourite TV moments ever 😂Even my dog enjoyed it.

Just realised the guy who plays Paul is in Rivals!

MyballsareSandy2015 · 31/05/2026 16:47

Shit husband in that as well!

deeahgwitch · 14/06/2026 16:42

It’s uncanny how believable having Joanna Lumley and Lucy Punch as mother and daughter, is,in the series.

It really is! Fabulous pairing!

JuliettaCaeser · 14/06/2026 22:35

Just so enjoyed a funny intelligent program that feels like real life for many of us. More please!

JuliettaCaeser · 14/06/2026 22:38

We saw the useless husband in a play. He was very good and not a useless husband. We just couldn’t place him for a while.

She was head of product development at Glaxo Smith Kline worldwide, but I think she was meant to have become a SAHM when she had Darius. She is working again in Amandaland though. Not sure why she’d have moved

Look, in fairness Julia called it - she wants her children to be raised the same way she was - by her mum! 😁
