A lonely man turns to magic in a desperate final bid to get to learn the truth about his missing partner.

DIY store worker Michael was heartbroken when Clea disappeared seven years ago and has been unable to move on with his life.

His father Brian shares an ancient recipe for growing magical spirits that can predict the future in the hope that they can answer his question.

With Clea brother Roy demanding his siblings house back Michael is determined to finally get to know the truth and opens up with colleague at the store, Casey

Casey accompanies Michael as the embark a part of remarkable journey.

Micheal is played by Pearce quigley , his dad Brian by Sir Michael Palin and Roy is Paul Kaye

It’s lovely. It’s not really about alchemy, like The Detectorists is not really about metal detecting. It is a vehicle for MC’s acutely and beautifully observed understanding of human relationships; and a bit of folk music!

It’s a Greek name. If you Google “famous people called Clea” there are several. There was one at school with me, London, 1970s.

Honestly never heard of the name before. I thought it was Cleo at first , misheard him.

Yes same here. I’ve rewatched Detectorists so many time and each time I do I love it even more. The most perfect character driven comedy ever to grace our screens, so I had very high hopes for Small Prophets. Crook, Quigley etc etc. So I binged. And it just didn’t land with me. Don’t know why. So clearly-reading all the posts on here-its a me thing 😟.

I really like this, but the detectorists was a masterpiece.
I like character driven dramas though.

We watched the first two and really enjoyed it. I know Blonde's rules from other shows....A hand drill had me giggling a lot.

I didn’t quite know what to expect with this but I do like MC’s work and I loved Detectorists. I wasn’t disappointed and was immediately drawn in by the beautiful soundtrack and the character. There are lots of lovely curiosities which made me smile and I enjoyed watching everything unfold. The characters are perfectly acted. It’s whimsical, full of folklore, mystery and magic. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait for the next series.

Absolutely love this. On episode 3 trying to go slow to just enjoy the wonderful acting and writing .Even the music just adds another level .

Just watched the first episode, really enjoyed it. Love Michael Palin so that's what made me want to watch it. I liked the way it was only half an hour too.

I like something to look forward to so will watch weekly too. Much more enjoyable!

Loved the series. Gently paced yet still quietly enthralling.
We have enjoyed all of M C’s work. Anyone else read The Windvale Sprites? He also illustrated it!
