What’s the best TV Series you’ve watched in the last 5 years?

For me it’s the German Series Dark on Netflix and the American series 1883 which is Paramount + but has now turned up on Netflix.

Dark which was about time travel really made you think and 1883 about Pioneer life/Cowboys was just quietly beautiful

Forgot about
Peaky Blinders
From
Gavin and Stacey
Stella
Trigger Point
So many great series it’s impossible to only name one.
I’ll probably think of more later.

Pennyworth...

Koolforkats · 10/05/2025 23:31

Can I add This is England 86, 88 and 90 if I’ve rewatched in last 5 years? Each one a masterpiece in terms of writing, directing and acting.

The Split. Stephen Mangan, loved his understated acting.

Outlander. Set off a years long obsession that has only just faded. My eldest's conception was thanks to it!

Absolutely love Outlander. Jamie Fraser is gorgeous.
It’s a pity the next series is going to be the last one.

gillefc82 · 10/05/2025 23:36

Succession is fab.

Also loved Billions starring Paul Giamatti, Damien Lewis and Maggie Siff to name a few.

Lovingthehamsterwheel · 10/05/2025 23:40

5 years is too lomg to rememember them all but I have really loved:
Yellowstone
The Rivals (with danny dyer)
Strike
Derek
The haunting of hill house
The white lotus

FagsMagsandBags · 10/05/2025 23:41

How could I forget Happy Valley! Maybe because it's both within and without the five year period. Certainly one of the best UK dramas in decades. Line of Duty, similar within and without and great drama but Happy Valley would win if I could only choose one.

I loved Dark so much.

Unbelievable on Netflix is one of the best things I have ever watched. I binge watched all 8 episodes of it in a day and then spent an hour at 2am reading the original piece of investigative journalism the series is based on.

I loved Unbelievable. Can you link to the article you read please

HalfMumHalfBiccit · 10/05/2025 23:46

Slow Horses
woman in the Wall

Don’t. Save yourself the absolute rage inducing fit. The first series promises much and the second is dreadful

Really? Ohhh that's so disappointing. I will watch it though as I'm too invested. Absolutely loved Yellowstone

Did you see the other shows in the 1883 'universe'?

1883 and 1923 were both spin-offs from Yellowstone - following the Dutton family at different points in history (Yellowstone is modern day).

Yellowstone is the best series I've seen in years - awful final run of episodes though after the main star fell out with the writer and refused to return.

Dark Winds is brilliant, first tv series I’ve watched that I didn’t ruin by reading the books halfway through

Velmy · 10/05/2025 23:53

I would say it's an all time great like Sopranos or anything, but The Fall of the House of Usher was a very unique watch.

Not sure if it was in the last five years but I loved Sharp Objects.

AppropriateAdult · 10/05/2025 23:53

In the last five years, Fleishman Is In Trouble and Maid.

Just outside the time limit, but so good that I have to recommend it to everyone, is The Americans.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/05/2025 23:55

@Velmy

yes I’ve seen them I believe 1944 is next and also hoping for a Beth and Rip series

OH it is.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/05/2025 23:58

Where will I find Dark Winds?

NoSleepOver · 10/05/2025 23:59

Nothing generally grabs me enough to see me through several series, but I found myself craving for every new series of You on Netflix

Maia77 · 11/05/2025 00:03

Better call Saul, Mad Men, Wonderful Mrs Meisel, Physical, Ozark, Disclaimer, Baby Reindeer, White Lotus, Poldark...to name a few :).

Daisymaybe60 · 11/05/2025 00:03

The Mirror and the Light.
The Responder.
Happy Valley and Line of Duty.

SheilaFentiman · 11/05/2025 00:04

WandaVision
Unforgotten
Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light
Wilderness

Older but brilliant:
Line of Duty
The Good Place

AliasGrace47 · 11/05/2025 00:07

The Crown

highlandcoo · 11/05/2025 00:14

I agree with:

Succession
Slow Horses
Happy Valley
Schitts Creek
It's a Sin
Fleabag

the first series of The Great was very entertaining

and no one has mentioned Killing Eve yet. I loved Jodie Comer especially in the first series.

They are also going to do a spinoff of 6666 which is Taylor Sheridan’s (the writer and show runner) ranch.

Also try and see Landman with Billy Bob Thornton from Sheridan, about the oil industry.

I think Mayor of Kingstown is also his, but it’s very dark.
